@@althealligator1467For me I think it’s that the original’s verses “lean major” while the chorus “leans minor” so even when that’s flipped, the song still mostly consists of alternating sections of major-ish and minor-ish. This breaks down from the bridge onwards though - the bridge doesn’t resemble anything in the original and there are no more majorish-minorish alternating sections after the last verse
the only reason it sounds normal is bc the melody of this song is just decending notes, so if you have them acending, itll sound pretty much the same just going up the scale
This isn't like other dark songs that get the negative harmony treatment. It didn't turn light like the others; it ended up even more unhinged and sinister than the original already was. If you reverse a black hole, it doesn't become a white hole; it's still a black hole with an opposite charge and spin. Light still can't escape.
This is the first negative harmony cover of yours I've heard that really doesn't feel too different to the original. Kind of like a black hole, and a very dark grey one 😅
@@SB-se7vb Technically speaking, they have precisely the same amount of dissonance. That’s the whole point of negative harmony - because all the intervals are perfectly equivalent, it retains precisely the same ratios of dissonance to consonance, tension to resolution, but in an inverted context

There are a lot of these that flip their tone, and a few happy songs that stay happy sounding. This is the only one I've run into that's a sad song that stays sad sounding.
Would be really cool if you could have a collab with youtubers who can imitate Chris' voice. To name a few : Anthony Vincent, Denis Pauna, Steve Welsh. But incredible work nonetheless
Amazing work, but any chance you'll be doing any of these from scratch again? I revisit Here Comes the Sun and Somewhere Over the Rainbow for your beautiful voice and production quite a bit!
This is the version in the universe that exist on the other side of said black hole. I think it's only a planck distance away from our universe, like dimensionally.
I really like your work, and this one is another banger. I’ve been wondering if it would be fine for me to use some of your covers in my RUclips video essays (with proper credit to you of course) because I think their experimental, indie vibe really fits the very specific mood I’m trying to create. Would that be ok?
Could you do The Stranger or Vienna by Billy Joel? They would sound very interesting. Or just any Billy Joel song you find interesting. came here from a video explaining negative harmony , from what I gather the farther away you go into extended chords like in this song , the less related overall to the original it becomes. in your Beatles covers with mostly simple chords up to 7ths it still relatable to the original . also couldn't you choose arbitrarily a different axis in this case ?
A different axis yields the same result but in a different key. And yeah great question, extended chords present a dilemma. In the key of C, Fmaj7 technically inverts to Ebmaj7. But generally in arrangement I find it better, or at least I usually make the choice to invert the simple triad, and then add the extensions, ie. Fmaj7 becomes Gminor(flat6)
The original was already so weird harmonically that this is not so much negative harmony as harmony at right-angles to reality. The end is like a freight train coming at you. I'd love to hear a negative harmony version of Elvis - Love Me Tender, I can imagine it coming across creepy as hell

omg i actually love this- it’s so unsettling but kinda funny sounding. It really sounds like a cartoon alien invasion, but the cartoon is one of those adult cartoons and before they’re about to hit earth, they’re hit with this thing that makes all their clothes disappear and it’s kinda gross but then again, it’s a cartoon so it’s just funny. The animations are like little coloured in sketches. They’re like graphic-ish but you can tell it’s been done with a black pen and watercolour. As if they were drawn by Trevor Brighton if you know what/who i mean. They’re in their little ships and the humans are scared and we’re trynna find a way to make them disappear as soon as the hit like the atmosphere layer (or whatever. I’m not that smart) but it doesn’t work out. It only makes them lose their clothes, that’s it. Probably bc the inventor was this doctor-nefario-type guy, from despicable me. Smart but misplaces and mishears things. So the naked aliens actually turn out to be good tho. They had come to warn us about something. idk, maybe a…black hole sun? I honestly don’t know, man. I can’t describe what I’m seeing in my brain but this paragraph should be the best i could do. I love these negative harmony songs so much, and i am literally begging to hear the song sonne by rammstein in negative harmony tho
Ah yes, "White Filled Moon" by Silencebuilding
More like silencefree
genius
lol
very shoegaze/dreampop song and band name
ayo what?
There’s so much mode mixture in the original that the overall vibe isn’t even that different. Same deal with Blackbird, iirc. So cool.
I totally disagree I think the vibe ends up being completely different
It really depends what you think is different or not about it. Like some aspects of it are very different and some aren't.

I have to disagree with many of the comments here. This version is MUCH darker than the original, and it friggin' slaps.
This version might be darker sounding but the original has much more "dissonance", which makes it equally dark and unsettling IMO.

Negative harmony Deftones would be really interesting. Maybe Change or Digital Bath would be cool. Sick work on this channel
