      Thats not offensive at all, Albino people should be treated just as equally as "normal" people because we are all normal and human. I think bullying against anything or anyone is just horrible. Even if you are obese, because of your skin or race or who your parents are from...anything....people should just be nice to one another.

      Don't know much about their culture, what I will say would be purely based on Hello Counselor and any documentary shows in Korea.. What I find is most of the citizen there aren't quite accept/adapted with something difference or odd.. It's like they living in a nutshell or box that seems like lack of knowlegde of outside world.. They tend to take it negatively if someone or something different..

      Finally, someone speak up my mind!!! When I watched Hello Counselor, I thought that Korean who live in Korea are much likely not very open to the world. How can they be so ignorant? They should be more open and I was thinking why not her teacher do something about her friends when she was in school.

    in my opinion, this kind of case happens because the beauty standard that Korea's has. there are people with the same condition in my country but no one looks down on them. well of course each country has certain beauty standard but most of them don't really mind it. especially countries with diverse ethnicity. i hope Koreans could be more open minded and of course media should play role in it with not only focus on popular standard of beauty.. well, that could really help.

    • @Password9141

      Agree.. like it or not, korean society so obsessed with looks so much. Imho

    • @looyee27
      @looyee27 7 лет назад +11

      I don't think its largely to do with the exceptionally high beauty standards that Korea has, however it does factor into it a lot. Korea is still largely homogeneous, where they mentioned in the video as well, that she probably wouldn't experience that level of discrimination or feelings of being an outcast elsewhere in the world or a country that has a more diverse ethnic makeup. Even today there are still people in Korea that have a very dated view black people. Like she'll be looked at but she probably wouldn't be ridiculed to the extent she has been in Korea. She probably might experience similar situations in similar Asian countries, but the Korean focus on looks just intensifies her situation even more. Which adds to the sort of general close-mindedness of Korean society has as well. They might hate us for saying that, but lets face it, its true.

      unfortunately it seems like the only acceptable skin color according to society is either pale skin with warm/yellowish/wheatish tones or light-medium tanned skin with warm tones or some kind of olive-y skin. basically anything containing a yellowish/warm tint :(

    I would hope that she would continue as a special ed teacher, even become a science teacher. Children are resilient, and the more they are exposed to differences, the more they can be open-minded. Children may be scared, but this can be overcome with thoughtful processes and a confident, caring attitude. I'm a special ed teacher, and I have Autism. My students, whilst not afraid of me, recognise my differences and understand me better than other adults I work with. It gives me hope, when I know that my students are going to grow up and be accepting of the differences in others, they will look beyond the physical manifestations of illness, disease and disorder, and see the people behind them instead. In many ways, it is the special needs children that will foster acceptance and embrace the true meaning of individuality and neurodiversity.

      Lmao and how is that different than in other countries? I live in Canada (land of "nice people") and when I was in high school I saw that nobody really wanted to be friends with the "different" kids. Sure they would be polite, and they wouldn't bully them, but at the same time the "different" kids never got invited to parties or anything. No ugly kid had genuine pretty friends - why? Because the pretty people wanted to be popular. The only time one of the different kids had a lot of friends was if they were the class clown - and even then the popular/pretty people laughed at them not with them. You say "the Korean people just want to be friends with the beautiful people only. " Newsflash: IT HAPPENS EVERYWHERE. Stop generalizing a whole society based off of a 12 minute video. Does Korean society have a lot of flaws? Yes. Every country does. Keep an open mind, and see the good in Korea as well as the bad.

I mean she is a very bright person and I am so happy that she go the chance to tell her story. she even met a friend just like her. this really made me cry because I know how it feels to be judged by the way that you look. I really feels you since I also had the same experience.. It's not physical bullying but more to verbal and mental bullying.. I don't have a friends back then until I enter High School.. but still I have problems in delivering what I'm truly feels or release anger to someone that toying/using me..I got easily intimidated with strangers and often apologize if I somewhat burden them in some kind of ways.. That habit kinda already in me so to change it, I think it will take a lot of time.. Currently, I secretly knows that everyone in my life won't stay with me forever because they have their own lives & problems.. So in a way, I felt so proud on this girl because she's so strong that I'm kinda envy that personality.. I wish I could have it..

      because mostly in korea from what i've seen and heard from friends who went and stayed there.. their "image", looking a certain way, in general "beauty standards" are the main thing over there.. if u are slightly "fat" they will make fun of you.. or your eyes is not as bright or big u are considered "ugly". even uneven skin or tan skin you are not beautiful to them.. image is everything.. with the "right look" you will get every happiness. this from what i heard from my friends who have been there before.. so how you look is important as if it is life to them..

      where are u from? and i know how u feel. like you before i know all that they look amazing by supporting kpop.. i still do but when i heard from a friend that actually went there.. yea its kinda crazy even my aunt went there early of this year. like beauty shop is everywhere they are like on every street.. beauty is like a main thing for them. yes maybe you will find someone friendly who will not judge u by your looks and such but behind all that they will talk about it. i know not all of them are beauty crazy but there its like one of the main thing that they will think about is beauty. to have flawless skin, the perfect body , face shape to eyes shapes even the most confident actress or idols will say there is something they wont like about their body because how the netizen is gonna react. and ive seen alot of those via kpop korean fans..

      Well ignorance is not wrong, but when it turns to discrimination and being rude (Whisper and pointing fingers), that is not acceptable.
      Imo maybe a single race and ethnicity in Korea has caused Koreans to be less receptive and accepting of differences.
      In multinational countries/cities, you can barely differentiate who's a local and who's a foreigner just by appearance, and it makes ppl accept that there is diversity but we are all human race.

      This is so true. I'm Korean and there are people who judge over looks in Korea, but there are also many people who hate the fact that people do so. There is even a super popular webtoon that shows how looks aren't everything. The people who are calling Koreans mean and judgmental in the comments are doing exactly what they are accusing Koreans of doing. Very insulting and it feels like these people are judging Koreans over just a part of the population;;

      Thats true not all Koreans are cruel like that, but I guess people are comparing how if you went to another country like Europe of the U.S there wouldn't be as much of a bad reaction as what she gets in Korea.
      Usually in America if a kid has a disease like that the teacher will make up a lesson that explains simple things about the disease and how we should treat them like everyone else. I don't think teachers in Korea do that, but maybe in the future they will and it will help others like her

    • @Irgoe
      @Irgoe 7 лет назад +5

      Exactly. Everywhere in the world, albino people (especially non-white people) are judged for their looks, as it's not "normal". It's not just Korea. Obviously it's harsh in a uniform society that focuses on beauty like Korea, but it's not easy for a black person in Africa who's albino either, I'd imagine. Or a middle eastern. Or even a white kid in school. People are harsh the world over.

    • @user-hd9dw9or7x
      @user-hd9dw9or7x 7 лет назад +29

      America and Europe would probably be more understanding because there is such a diversity of people there, but I believe it is so difficult in Korea because everyone has the same hair color, eye color, skin color, etc. Koreans are not all mean, it's just the ignorance resulting from a very uniform society that results in less understanding than more diverse places.

    When I was around 14 I still didnt know albinism exist. But as I grew older, I read alot of books and watched alot of medical documentaries... From there, I get to know albinism and several rare medical conditions. People just need to be educated with this stuff. However, its a good thing that she came to this show so that people will become more aware of this situation.

      @juliacj8268 7 лет назад +57

      sigh...they don't want to "westernize" they like different eye colors, contacts that make their eyes look big to make them cute--not look western, Koreans can like blonde hair and they have the right to like it or want to dye their hair blonde THIS DOES NOT MEAN THEY WANT TO BE WHITE. Korea's beauty standards are developed from prejudice after their war many decades ago, tan skin meant you were poor as people with tan skin worked outside, white skin meant u could stay inside=u were rich. Just because they like different colored hair or eyes does not mean they want to "westernize".

    I watched this video awhile back and it saddens my heart to think that people are still very unkind when they see others who may look and act different, not because they want to but because physical limitations do that to people. I am also Korean born with albinism. I was adopted back in 1980 and it makes me incredibly sad to think that my parents might have had to given me up because of society and how they would have treated me. God has a plan for everyone's life and mine was for me to be adopted without ever knowing my biological parents. If I could meet them I would let them know that God had a huge role in my life and that I am well and that I wish them well too. I have taken a DNA test to see if I have any biological family who was also adopted or who may be looking for me. The foster home from which I came through does not have much info on me but that's ok, I know I'll find my family one day in God's perfect time and place. Until then I pray this girl will get to live her life well and others will treat hr well and give her a chance to shine.

Why make someone feel so hurt and lonely! Obviously she knows what she looks, She doesn't need others pointing it out.
