The Pine Creek Gorge (Grand Canyon of PA) was an amazing paddle. Excellent views, wild life, and whitewater. I had a great trip with my fellow raft guides. I was super impressed with the hikes to the rim.
I thoroughly enjoyed your video, me and my family had a house in Tioga County a few miles away from Blackwell.. I truly have some of my fondest memories of this area. PA has so much to over the outdoorsman. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip! 🍋
I enjoyed your video ...I can remember paddling all the way down the gorge when there were still freight trains going up and down the creek...way before anything like a rails to trails was ever thought of ...yhe gorge was much wilder then ...and there weren't many restrictions on where you could or couldn't just pull off and set up camp for the evening ,build a campfire,and cook supper....we used to be awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of a freight train passing by our campsite. Those days are sadly gone ...Mid fiftys to early sixtys... it was a magical time ...of course we didn't have cell phones or GPS gear ,and the only problem I can remember is that the raccoons liked to steal our bacon and eggs we had stored in one of the cool feeder streams...anyway...again thank you for the great video ... . .
I’ve had this trip on my radar for a long time! I have been thinking about biking it first and have already spotted that ridge climb up to the cliff as a must do. You just confirmed it wasn’t an impossible task. Now I have the bushwack down to the falls to add to the list! Going to have to watch out for the falcons though. Definitely don’t want to send a drone up there like I had thought about. We need to get you set up with a better hammock setup with a top quilt and under quilt. If you have liked sleeping in what you have, it will only get more awesome!
You will love it. The bike ride looks pretty easy. One guy in my group put his bike in a canoe, paddled to camp, rode his bike to put-in, then drove to takeout, and rode back to camp. But you could easily do it in one trip. As far as the hammock, I am sold on the top quilt, but have not pulled the trigger on the bottom quilt. But soon! It will be way better than a pad on cold nights.

Just found a tour bus service that will take me and my bike and packs from Jersey Shore to the North end of the trail for $20 and I can take whatever time I want to get back to my car at Jersey Shore 62 miles away. It is only on the first Saturday of each month though.
Nice video, I'm planning on doing this trip next week, unless the water levels are too low. If you haven't bought it yet, buy the ground sheet for the chair. It'll stop you from sinking the legs in softer ground. It's worth the few ounces in weight.Also, how long you have that kayak?

As for my boat, it is a Jackson Rogue 10. I bought it used a couple of years ago to do trips like this and surf on Lake Erie. You can never have too many boats, I think I have 7 right now. It was more fun in a ww crossover boat than a touring boat.
I've kayaked it several times. My most memorable time on the Pine was when I shot a bear in Nov 2009, from the west side to the east side and took my pants and boots off, crossed the creek to check for blood. I love that country.
@OutsideChronicles I'll be up Memorial Day weekend with my madriver adventurer 14 canoe. That creek is full of people that weekend but who can blame them, it's the place to be!

I remember passing the campsite you stayed at. Do you have location data from that overlook you hiked to? I’m going to make sure I make it up there next time I go.

I loved the meal plan, yes, probably half of Mountain House. I like the convenience of Mountain House, but gets expensive on a multi day trip.

I did that same trip plus all the way to Lock Haven if I remember correctly. 100 miles total. BSA Troop 1452, I believe it was 1978.

Hi, i am from Allison Park, Pa. and there is a creek there named Pine Creek; Obsiously not the same as where you are but enjoyed watching.
I am sure there are several Pine Creeks. This is the one that runs through the Grand Canyon of PA. An absolutely beautiful area.

If the entire run was like the Owassee or better, I’d consider it.

Is that camp location you stayed at Private property. Do you need a permit?
No permit needed, there are a few at large camps along the way.

3.3ft, luckily I said it in my opening which is near perfect levels. But you can run it between 2.5 - 3.5.
