a lot of mbv was made using the most modern digital samplers of the time, a lot of that inspiration coming from Kevin's love of hip hop and pop. I hope you find the space to mature to appreciate analog doing was only analog can do and digital doing only what analog to do. There is a lovely amount of very interesting music in both worlds.
almost all of SOPHIE's music is using the Elektron Monomachine, which is a really deep FM synthesizer - FM synthesis being a digital only process discovered in the 70's. Despite the fact that a composers worth is not limited to their access to physical instruments (Stravinsky sure wasn't playing Rites of Spring) SOPHIE'S PRODUCTION is incredibly hands on even before the additional computer arranging is added with the use of Ableton's physical PUSH machine. Again, hope you grow. You're denying yourself a lot with this weird classist view on instrumentation. A.G Cook who also writes music which Charli uses a ton of pedals all the time as well.
If you need to be told what hardware was used on music before it has merit for you to be like 'wow' then you're really suffering at your own hands. I would also encourage you to try and produce anything with a computer if you have access, I assure you will not be able to recreate a single portion of any deep electronic producer's music. It really is difficult work. Playback might be easier if you're taking the 'hit play and step back's route but many electronic artists are not doing this. Look at Daft Punk's alive setups if you want a very well documented example of this - they are not unique in that approach. I literally make my living designing, advertising, demonstrating, and selling tube amplifiers, analog, and digital pedals, it's not like appreciating one demerits the other.
