    " "It Is Not Sound" is heavily based on Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach. The prominent melody played with keyboards can easily be found in Bach's work, but there are other extracts in the background also. "

  • @toasty406
    @toasty406 13 лет назад

    This is far more sophisticated than black metal. I think what happened is they grew as musicians. I used to love metal... 8-10 years or so ago when I was a kid, then my horizons broadened and I realized music has much more to offer.

  • @sburgos9621

    Watching this again I feel like the crowned man spinning into the air represents the precession of the Earth, especially with the crown tilted at an angle. Also he is rising up which could represent moving towards a higher consciousness. In light of this and the fact that he is shot in the end, I get the sense that they are trying to express the coming age of enlightenment and the dangers that our lower instincts pose to this process.

  • @Zimy0

    Similar to "Bergtatt" album - Vintersorg "Till Fjalls" Album
    Similar to "Kveldssanger" album - Empyrium (whatever album)
    Similar to "Nattens Madrigal" album - Darkthrone "Transylvanian Hunger" album
    I listened to Ulver since Kveldssanger album and listened to Nattens Madrigal when was released back in 1997 (on Century Black label) and it blew my mind, so aggresive and raw! I praise a lot their black metal trilogie, but I embraced their change of style in 1998 and still like them. Pure genius!

    @joope666 It is the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565 by Bach, although some dispute it was him who wrote it.

  • @amaruu

    Not to mention the 'musical component' is the time signatures, instrument usage, compositions in general and structure....but yes, it is funny how totally altering everything about a style of music creates a new genre >_>

    Also he climbs the mountain/tower which could represent rising above the dark figures which represent the unconscious mind unchecked or what Jung calls our shadow. When he reaches the top he has conquered his own shadow, he is crowned and changes from his rags.

  • @Zombiefied666
    @Zombiefied666 16 лет назад

    Ulver never was "generic", they were Black Metal yeah, at those time they had a very particular way of playing Black/Folk. And it was actually going great, now more than 10 years had passed, and i honestly can´t see the greatness of what they´re doing now.
    Only if Nattens Madrigal have had a better production maybe Ulver would still be Black Metal. Who knows... i knew Ulver when they were starting long time ago, and this has nothing to do with things back then...

  • @Vanadium

  • @ih8makinusernames
    @ih8makinusernames 14 лет назад

    @o0Evangelion20140o I think the problem is not that Ulver once played Black Metal, it was that they honestly recorded the greatest black metal album of all time and then said "No More" I love all their stuff but it still saddens me that they never recorded another BM album because "Nattens Madrigal" is the best of its genre.

  • @BlightedJosh
    @BlightedJosh 13 лет назад

    @TalvellaMaa Nothing random about their music. Every sound and note is placed for a reason. It's not for most people, that's for sure. But they are definately good and unique.

    i don't assume anything, and i agree with you partly, enlightenment (or pure genius) is far too often confused with drug usage or madness. but then again, my experience is that there are states of mind and ideas born form these states that have little to do wih enlightenment and are exclusively accessible through psychotropics. and i feel the song and the video are one of these. that's all
