How Beautiful. This is the most beautiful contemporary version of this beautiful hymn I've heard so far, in this best season of year amidst gloom. May our Lord Jesus Christ still protect and bless your heart with gentleness, for many commenting under this hymn to which do not seem relevant. I give thanks to you, Lord, for using the amazing Gettys to bring hope, love and peace to the world, especially in the troubled years where we live. This hymn always has a special place in my heart, from where I grew up with to where I was baptized with earlier this year. In remembrance of the birth of our Savior in a bleak season yet not despaired, in a lowly place yet the government will be upon His shoulders. As Simeon has gone in peace when his eyes have seen thy salvation, so till that day when we see your face again in revelation to all nations and in glory. Many blessings to all!
Funny, I was not so keen on that at all, but I have also been around Pharisee style "Christians" all of my life here in Denmark, so I have grown entirely allergic to their subtle way of accusing other people with suggestions all the time, just to add works to our salvation plan. It is also, how the Seventh day Adventists always operates. The song is wonderful though, and absolutely the best rendition too, that I have heard so far. God Bless and Shalom!
too bad he has spread doubt in Jesus' universal offer of salvation to *_ALL SINNERS_* with his Calvinist theology of limited atonement, truly the devil's "gospel"... *_if you were not chosen for salvation before the beginning of the world, you will never be saved_*
I love the lyrics to this poem/song. “Our God, earth cannot hold Him…” The longer I am in relationship with Him, the more glorious and beautiful He is. Thank you for revealing Yourself, God, through Jesus. When you come again, it will be to crack the sky and reclaim Your creation. You are King and Lord of all! Love Himself is coming.
Even though this was published as a poem decades prior to WW1. Somehow the lyrics put me in the trenches in the middle of a harsh winter. Also makes me think about the Christmas Truce. God is great. Such a beautiful Carol.
After having lived through several North Dakota Winters now, I can certainly relate to this being "in the bleak Midwinter": cold, dark, dreary--where some days just the sunlight breaking through the clouds---even briefly, brings an immediate rush of joy and warmth. Had a moment just like that today as a matter of fact! The new C.S. Lewis movie bio--"C.S. Lewis: The Most Reluctant Convert"--concludes with this particular hymn, appropriately enough, after he comes to faith in Christ. Enjoyed the movie and its theme immensely--and I'd never heard this beautiful bit of music before.
What a beautiful song! It poet means The Lord Jesus was born so so happy, Jesus suffered and died so so hurtful but he rises up on the third day and of course how can I not give My Father Lord Jesus Christ my heart. We love you so so much for your sacrifice!!!!!! Lord JESUS.
Beautiful! It's important to note that the first verse is a famous poem written by Christina Rossetti. Gustav Holst wrote the music; the Gettys added the chorus. The Bible tells us to give honor where honor is due. That said, this is a lovely arrangement of this classic carol. Thank you for sharing it!
Thank you so much. I was introduced to this poem at the age of five and it was instrumental in my salvation. It still brings tears to my eyes, especially when I hear it sung so beautifully.
Angels and archangels may have gathered there, Cherubim and seraphim thronged the air; But his mother only, in her maiden bliss, Worshiped the beloved with a kiss.
What can I give my Lord?? My faith in action, my holiness without phariseism, worship with substance and deeds of justice. You deserve them all. Be blessed for this great arrangment.
Lyrics: 1 In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan, earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone; snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow, in the bleak midwinter, long ago. 2 Our God, heaven cannot hold Him, nor earth sustain; heaven and earth shall flee away when He comes to reign. In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed for the Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ Chorus Gloria, Gloria! Now my eyes have seen; Soli Deo Gloria! He salvation brings. As the Lord has promised, I may go in peace. 3 What can I give Him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb; If I were a wise man I would do my part. Yet what I can, I give him: give my heart. (Chorus)

This lovely old carol can be used by anyone as it is out in the public domain. So YES.. you and anyone can use it. Mainly heard at Christmas, I am mostly familiar with the Christina Rossetti version from the mid 1800's.. this reading is just a bit too "moderne" for me. Stay well ~stay safe. WF xx
Please add above with other information that the words are by English poet Christina Rosetti and written in 1872. Music by English composer Gustav Holst. Susan Boyle sings this like an angel
Alternative lyrics to the "In the bleak mid winter" carol, for windsurfing & skiing fanatics In the mild windy winter weather, windsurfers go whoop as they speed along, maybe try a forward loop they are having great fun, when the breeze is fresh gybing, tacking, jumping, wave riding, they're having a merry sesh In the frosty snowy weather, skiers go whizzing by zooming down mountain slopes, starting from really high snow had fallen, snow on snow, skiers loving that its nicely pisted now under blue bird skies, scenery makes folk say wow
We know the shepherds were watching their flocks by night, so it wasn't mid winter as the song says, BUT THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY IN THE FORM OF A BABY, JESUS CHRIST, CAME DELIVERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT INTO MARY'S/ WOMB, TO LIVE A PERFECT SINLESS LIFE, SO HE COULD LAY THAT LIFE DOWN TO PAY MY DEBT OF SIN! THANK YOU LORD JESUS!
If this song's accurate, then Christ wasn't born in December, since it isn't officially winter until the 21st. If he was born in midwinter, then my guess would be late January, or February.

The Getty chorus sounds like Dvorak’s New World Symphony
@@d0ug that's correct. Dvorak took the melody from a Negro spiritual!
All that is state clearly though in the credits at the end of the video.
may we seek comfort and refuge in You Lord! may we praise You for taking care of us!

Beautiful. First time I am actually hearing the whole song
Chinese Lyric for 5 verses version
【1】
In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone:
大地坚硬如铜 弱水似磐石
snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,
in the bleak midwinter, long ago.
【2】
Our God, heaven cannot hold him, nor earth sustain;
heaven and earth shall flee away when he comes to reign
in the bleak midwinter, a stable place sufficed
the Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.
【3】
Enough for him whom cherubim worship night and day,
a breastful of milk and a mangerful of hay:
竟被乳养怀中 静卧干草丛
enough for him whom angels fall down before,
the ox and ass and camel which adore.
【4】
Angels and archangels may have gathered there,
cherubim and seraphim thronged the air,
but only his mother, in her maiden bliss,
worshiped the Beloved with a kiss.
【5】
What can I give him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb,
if I were a wise man, I would do my part,
yet what I can I give him, give my heart.
