  • I'm willing to risk a RUclips strike on this vid but I just think this scene should be up here. This character just kills me and this scene is the highlight of the wonder of the combo in "Stealing Home" of Jodie Foster's performance and David Foster's score. I adore it. See this movie any way you can.

Jodie Foster is excellent in this film. The subtle sadness in her eyes near the end of this clip is a hint of the despair that will ultimately consume her character's life...A heartbreaking performance, only strengthened by David Foster's moving score.

This movie has provided many with a spiritual awakening.. When I was in college, I got caught up in partying a little too much and found myself in a "low" period of mental and physical well being. For a guy, it's tough to admit, but this movie brought me through a very trying time in my junior year of college and 20 years later this movie and David Foster's score is engrained in my soul.. I have two beautiful daughters now that I will pass this down to when they come of the right age.. I wish Jodie Foster would speak more of this film.. It was some of her best work.. :)

Siddharth ...It’s funny how this RUclips channel keeps bringing me back over the years...I’m stoked more people are seeing this film :) Agreed siddharth regarding Jodie Foster & being a double Oscar Nominee in 89’ ...most definitely...I’m thinking it was “The Accused” you’re referring to, that film...that haunting music...that performance & the subject matter was dark & she played it the only way Foster knows; tragically beautiful. She’s amazing. I love her latest projects she’s having fun with still amazing whether directing or on screen, she’s always bringing me back to “Stealing Home” just watch it :)

This movie is so underrated and highly misunderstood by the critics, it perfectly elicits the feel of nostalgia and regret major kudos goes to a brilliant musical score by David Foster. One of the greatest acting moments of any movie I have seen and not easy for even A list actors to pull off. To switch from one emotion of pure joy to utter despair and translate that in her eyes the way she did was incredible to me as a viewer!!! This movie from the 80's got the harshest reviews yet has scored very high among audiences who saw it. You will either get the spiritual connection with it or you will not, plain and simple.

One of my favorite films. I tossed out my VHS tapes years ago, so I am always appreciative when someone takes the time to upload scenes from wonderful movies from the past. This was a gentle, touching film in many ways....Jodie Foster played the "free spirited" companion so beautifully....Mark Harmon was perfect as the down and out baseball player who looks back on her influence on his life...They were many scenes I remember. Once again, thanks for taking the time to post this video.

I adored this movie from the first time I saw it in the theater in 1988. In 1996, I saw my ex-boyfriend for the last time before he killed himself the following year. Oddly, I heard that line from the movie in my head as he drove away but changed the pronoun, "And that was the last time I ever saw him." The soundtrack, the scenery, the beach, the cars, & the characters are what make this movie unlike anything else. It's sad, happy, funny, heartbreaking, honest. It received horrible reviews when it first came out. It's one of those you either understand it or you don't. If you do, you are my tribe!

Love this movie, and this clip gets me every time. It made me sad and annoyed to see how IMBD misquoted the monologue from this scene. There's not many I can remember after all these years but this one stuck with me.
“ See that's all I really wanna do Billy-Boy. I want to leap off this pier and fly high in the air, and hang out with the wind and drift with the clouds, and at night with the Moon full and the sea wild, I’d meet my lover high on a cliff and we'd swoop down into the ocean and swim all the way and touch the bottom up through the dark water and break the surface. And then we'd fly to Jamaica for Pina Colatas... God, I wish I could do that.

I've recited that scene so many times since I first saw it. I grew up in Atlantic City maybe ten or fifteen years after the time setting in this movie. Plus I was born and all my relatives are from Philadelphia. This film brings back so many memories of AC and Philly, and through my adulthood I kind of was similar to the Katie character.
