When my flight landed in London after my trip to Seoul i felt this. But as i reflected on my experience when i was there i was so happy and didn't feel so bad. Took some time to get back to my norm but i'm so happy with the memories i made and the experiences i had there.

I’m so glad you were able to come to a place where you don’t feel so bad ♥️🫂 it does take time but true healing can’t be rushed. Happy you also have lovely memories to look back upon ☺️✨

I GET ITTTT. First time I went to Korea it was a very short stay, only a few days, but still it felt exactly like this. I was SO SAD to leave. I felt like I was leaving a piece of my heart behind. Literally, I was fighting the desire to cry while waiting in the lobby of my hotel lol.
Second time I went I was there for longer, but still not long enough and I was still so sad to leave. And yup, going back to real life when I got home left me depressed for weeks.

I did have the feelings you discuss here when I returned from my trip to Korea. What made it more bearable was that, in my mind, there was an assumption that I would return. It may have been a subconscious coping mechanism as I have no realistic plans to return. A form of denial that made me feel that my current reality wasn't permanent or even my proper place. Strangely, of all my great experiences the one thing I can't get out of my mind was a cream scone that they sell in the food area of the Lotte department store. It was AWESOME!

You perfectly explained what I spent so long trying to make my friends and family understand about my trip to S. Korea.
I stepped foot in Seoul, and I instantly felt in my heart that it was home. I made comparisons between S. Korea and America, while pointing out how better it was to be in S. Korea and how America was the absolute worst. Even returning home, I hated being back. I couldn't shake the feeling that I didn't belong in the States. I did fall into a depression because of it.
No one understood me at that time, so it's nice to see that other people go through the same thing and have had the same experiences as me.

I'm about to leave South Korea after 2 years here, and the worst thing for me is that I never expected to meet so many amazing people here. The thought of not being able to see them again really sucks, and ofc I'll get to see all my friends and family back home, which is great, but I dunno when I'll get to see my friends in South Korea again. I plan to keep in touch with them and I'm already planning a trip back here and I haven't even left yet! Hello Talk is also really great in my experiences, it's how I met a few of my friends here.

This was so good to hear and completely understand! I've definitely been in a travelers depression since returning from South Korea and slowly came to realise why I was feeling this way. Currently I am planning to move to Seoul in March, which is what's been keeping my spirits up! I'm super excited and cannot wait for this next adventure 🥰✈

I never feel this depression. Ive traveled extensively around the world and love it. But I come home and feel elation. It’s because I live in a lucky country that is free, isnt polluted, or has aggressive neighbour countries, has clean water and air and isn’t overpopulated. I feel total gratitude.❤

Heart of darkness by Joseph Conrad is the greatest book in this genre. His famous quote “the horror, the horror “ captures this sentiment. The movie apocalypse now is based on it. If you read this it will be cathartic.

one time, there was a guy sitting on the street with a cardboard sign saying that he was getting deported. i wanted to talk to him but i had no power to make any sort of difference so i couldn't do anything but just walk by.

Wise words! We are enjoying having our RachNFluffs home for a visit in the states. Why not keep the honeymoon going? It takes work, time, effort, and money, but I bet there are still more exciting places and people in South Korea to visit. I hope we get to come back for a visit this year. I love your videos and you!!!

I have been to Korea several times now and I always cry when I'm flying at 600 miles an hour, away from Korea😭😭🥲🇰🇷✈️🇺🇸... the distance factor is so hard 😶when my heart is always over there. I always dream to go again!! And it motivates me😊

I totally felt the same after returning to the depressing Netherlands after two weeks in Japan…The Netherlands is so shallow and people there think they are the best and greatest and that they live in the most advanced country in the world but that’s simply not the case. I hate how narrow-minded they are but constantly saying that they are open-minded…hypocrisy everywhere and so little common knowledge of the world.

As an evangelist I love going to Korea and engaging with the precious Korean people. I get sad when I go back to my country - they are always on my mind. And I love Jesus Christ - the only begotten Son of God Who died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins and on the third day He rose from the dead. Every person who truly believes the GOSPEL with all their heart has been Born Again - they have EVERLASTING life. Water baptism and the Lord's Supper are ONLY for those people who are ALREADY saved. We must remember that the precious Blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from ALL sin which means there is NOTHING that can be done to improve the FINISHED work of Jesus Christ. As Christians we want to live a life that is pleasing to God - there are NO excuses for sin. We must earnestly contend for the faith and preach the GOSPEL as instructed by Jesus Christ - WORSHIP HIS MAJESTY - please read John 14:6.

Love the video! I’ve experienced travelers depression as well and it sucks!
I have a quick question. I am teaching English in Korea for a year here at the end of the month. And my friend wants to come with me and live in Korea for a year. We have been having a hard time figuring out visa stuff for her. Do you know if they would approve a year long tourist visa for her, or can she only do the 90 days and then come back? It’s ok if you don’t know just thought I’d ask. ❤

    • @MeganOsten
      @MeganOsten  7 месяцев назад

She would have to do visa runs (where she leaves the country and comes back again). They don’t extend tourist visas. Usually people can do this for about a year but sometimes they’ll ask, “Why do you keep coming back?” And something they will say, “This is your last time entering Korea for (insert an amount of time here)”. For a year it SHOULD be fine but I can’t say with complete certainty. Hope that helps!! 🫂✨

oh god. i have to renew my visa in just over a week. hate hate hate going there. the online reservation sucks and it always seems like i forgot something or they changed the process. not to mention that the offices are far from public transport and i often seem to get lost, i think i had had to go back twice a few times. what's worse is that it's always during the hot and humid season.

The first 3 minutes of this video perfectly encapsulates how I've been feeling after moving back to London from Japan 😢. @@MeganOsten Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words. I've come to the conclusion that I just need to be selfish and pursue my own happiness. As you say family won’t be there forever, but I also don’t want to spend every single day being unhappy and depressed. I have decided to leave the UK. Either this year or next year and my first destination will be South Korea. Your videos helped me so much when I visited last year. Thank you so much for the amazing content.
