This is the kind of music that makes you WANT to watch the movie, and then keeps you engaged as the story unfolds. One of the greats.

The superb voice of British actor James Robertson Justice adds so much to this post. As for Dimitri Tiomkin,
his film CV is well known, not least in Western films. I recall him living in London in later life. His score for
this film, with its fine share of British talent, is so appropriate. Perhaps only Ron Goodwin could have come
up with something as good for "The Guns of Navarone"..

To truly understand the importance of this magnificent score, try to imagine the film without it. This is grand scale storytelling like only Hollywood could do, with the imagination and skills of a Tiompkin, a Williams, a Bernstein, or a Korngold, wielding the full and lush sonic palette of the late Romantics like Mahler. Sincere thanks to whoever it was that posted this delight.

The British Officer who offered to go over to 'Rhoades', and get the Navarone infiltration team, a German 'E' Boat! ("Perfect condition! Only 'one' careful owner!"), was without a doubt, one of the best 'bits' of the movie!
Now you've just 'got' to tell me. What album is this from? I mean, it has the opening prologue, in which explains the reason that the Navarone mission is undertaken to begin with! I would like to have music like this, to play it when I'm 'grinding' Star Trek Online's 'TFO' missions!

Always gives me a warm glow inside to hear Tiomkin's score. It's an excellent demonstration of how to score a big scale movie and is both lush and efficient at the same time. Marvelous!

He was the John Williams of his day. There's so many big hits he did the music for--Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Red River, Rio Bravo, and Dial M for Murder, to name a VERY few...

Maravillosa película acompañada de está magnífica orquesta la cual cada vez que la escucho , me transportó a esa época triste y a esos lugares y a esa triste historia bélica allá en Europa con sus magníficos actores . Que PELICULON señores 😳 !!!!!

John Williams orchestrated some of the music cues for Tiomkin particularly the closing music/choral selection at the end of the film. . Great Score. Out.

Thank you for placing the SYMPHONIC version of the main title immediately after the prologue, as the OST album did not do--instead we heard the Mitch Miller gang singing a popular version of the theme. Irritated me to no end, and I had to watch the movie to get the whole prologue and main title as presented in the movie! Now there's a re-recording of the complete score without cues scrambled as they were on the OST album, but I love to hear the original prologue with James Robertson Justice narrating!

Best soundtrack suite I've heard on any movie. It beautifully mixes in all the various themes that make this film special.

It starts at 20:51: Yassou (good-bye), godspeed to the gallant men. Mission accomplished. Farewell, my friends, and so the legend ends. Farewell Miller, Brown and Mallory, young Pappadimos, Franklin and Stavrou, Maria. Yassou.

Many of the best WW2 films were made in the 60s eg "The Great Escape", "Where Eagles Dare", "The Dirty Dozen". & "The Heroes of Telemark" In the '70s WW2 films went out of fashion despite the big budget "A Bridge Too Far".
