It's a very beautiful theme by Rota (my own favourite is Il Gattopardo) but he isn't a songwriter, and an American put words to it, which are lovely but have nothing to do with the story. These words have been wrongly translated, very badly indeed - I wouldn't sing them! But the original words were in Sicilian dialect, and it was called "Brucia la terra". It's a scene of enormous sadness. Here is a good translation I've found for you. Now I can share your love for this song! And to this day my admiration for Deborah Kerr and Yul has never wavered,the magic of my childhood still lingering, sharing a little with my son and grandchildren.

I have listened many versions of this masterpiece, composed by a genius, interpreted only by high caliber tenors, but every now and then I am returning home, to the warm and gorgeously expressive voice of Jonas.

In my personal opinion Nino Rota really was a fabulous composer and he impressed me many years ago, when I first saw The Godfather. For me even the lyrics seems to be suitable, but is fair to say that I don’t know how they sound to a native Italian. So, sorry for my potential bad taste.
@@marianmatei1138 Dear Marian, I wanted to tell you that now I understand what the problem was! I've researched the song, and the scene from the film. It's a very beautiful theme by Rota (my own favourite is Il Gattopardo) but he isn't a songwriter, and an American put words to it, which are lovely but have nothing to do with the story. These words have been wrongly translated, very badly indeed - I wouldn't sing them! But the original words were in Sicilian dialect, and it was called "Brucia la terra". It's a scene of enormous sadness. Here is a good translation I've found for you. Now I can share your love for this song!

Altre nazioni brillano in alcuni di questi campi musicali, ma nessuno "abbraccia" tutti i generi come il nstr Paese, cn tali e tanti autentici capolavori. E nn abbiamo certo il budget, parlando dell'età attuale, di nazioni quali Usa e UK che hanno dalla loro un dominio e linguistico ed economico.
