    Been listening to EDM for 30 years and this kid has the most melodical music that just hits the heart and brings so much emotions to me through his music. Huge fan

      Feels so good to see someone that has been listening to EDM since the old school days and still liking modern stuff

    He's 100% right. The things you can do by using songs as transitions to jump or lower the BPM to tell a story or just give the crowd a vibe is truly incredibly. My favorite is BPM jumping to drop a metal song overtop an EDM song (Sometimes just the lyrics and a small part of the instrumental split from the rest of the track) to shock people (ESPECIALLY with a "Planet Purge" drop, with something like Upon A Burning Body - Planet Terror)

    As with anything, if there is no "down," "up" will lose its favor as we acclimate and build a tolerance to it. The lows make the highs more impactful/meaningful in contrast, and vice versa. Look at everything addictive: The brain & body are designed for this. People want to ride waves, the man gives us waves to ride.

      BRO! I watched as Illenium overtook Seven Lions in popularity and I couldn’t have been more upset because Seven Lions’ music is objectively better. And that’s also ignoring DJ’s like Porter Robinson, Nero, and DJ Koze.

    “Like nobody else” my ass. Seven Lions was doing this way better and way longer than Illenium. I respect him as an artist, but don’t gloss over the true pioneers just because this guy took their sensibilities to the most mainstream extreme.
    Also what about Porter Robinson? He’s been doing the genre and BPM hacking since he was 17 years old.
    And the list goes on: Zeds Dead, Nero, K?D, Gesaffelstein, DJ Koze, etc.
    This is not the thing that sets Illenium apart.
    Just some thoughts from someone who literally watched Illenium overtake Seven Lions in popularity with music that is objectively not as good, but definitely trying to be Seven Lions in every musical way.

    Great producer. Absolutely "Ok" dj. Definitely not the person I'd be taking "djing" tips from since he plays like one set over and over.

      Most DJs play the same sets over and over, especially so when touring.

    • @501Labsmusic

      @SoulOfTheLostWarriorMooCat This man has been playing the same set since 2019... there's limits.. The fact that you can just sing through his transitions because he's done them the exact way so long is embarrassing... but most people are easily impressed so that stuff definitely gets the masses going.

      DJing is really just a platform for producers to showcase their own music like never before. Back then, there were mostly rap producers making beats behind closed doors for artists with no credit or scaling up. With DJing, they reversed the stage structure putting the producer up front to play their “beats”.
      A lot of edm DJs aren’t really skilled or sophisticated enough for the art of mixing, they just want to play their music seamlessly for an audience along with a light show 🤷🏻‍♂️
      Don’t expect Illenium to scratch it up or mix different live mashups like actual DJs lol

    • @501Labsmusic
      @501Labsmusic 10 месяцев назад

      @NeonKue I dont disagree with you. Thats literally what im saying... I think his music is good... but He's being interviewed as a "DJ" here as if he's particularly skilled at doing that ... which he is not

    • @NeonKue
      @NeonKue 10 месяцев назад +6

      @@501Labsmusic There’s really not much of a difference. Like I said, they use DJing as a platform for its basic fundamentals like bpm, key, and cue matching to play their music live seamlessly as a playlist. A producer still understands all the elements of a song and can transition into harder or faster sounds to complete the mix so it’s not like Illenium doesn’t have the knowledge to answer these interview questions.
      If you want to talk about real DJ skills, that’s more of freestyle producing and creativity in song selections for a complex mix on the fly. Most edm producers can’t do that cus there’s a time limit and video transitions that are planned ahead for their set already. So of course they’re going to play the same set over and over until the next tour theme.
      It’s all cut from the same cloth, just worn differently.

    *He is very talented. But calling tempo BPM is cringey. It's like calling calling a computer a CPU. It's using the wrong terminology. BPM is just on equipment to shorten beats per minute where it's hard to fit all 3 words.*
