Building on flood plains, infill housing without an extensive overall and revamp of stormwater systems, building on reclaimed land, etc unfortunately all predictably contribute to loss and damage when nature acts as nature. May lessons be learnt, rather than repeated going forward by Councils and Property Developers in the greater Auckland region. Condolences to the families affected and who have lost love ones. Stay indoors and stay safe.
Well said!!
Someone should see how many flood plains have been used to build housing and how to avoid this happening again
Why does that not surprise me
I have relatives who live on a hillside near Cornwall Park. They have some flooding, their neighbours have it worse, and there are no floodplains anywhere near there.
To late the world has changed can only get worse
That's so what they did in Australia. They built over swamp land and old rubbish tip/landfill areas. That's so not cool.
Kind of impressive that the wipers are still working on the car underwater at 30.
Condolences to the families who lost loved ones
Thanks
My father got caught in the middle of the floods around quay street, he was doing a bus trip to Elton John's concert when the bus's engine got flooded. He ended up spending a good part of the day helping direct traffic since emergency services couldn't get through, crazy stuff. We got lucky, only things our family lost were dad's phone, our car and a few other things. I feel horrible for those who have lost their homes, property and whanau. Those who still don't believe in climate change, just wait, it's only getting worse everyday, and soon anyone could be in natures increasingly aggressive crosshairs.
Poor buggers..What a mess.
😥
Just changed my mind going to Auckland to pick up some stuff.
With those shops got the flood give all the food to people they need. Shop can claim insurance. Will help a lot of people. Otherwise they throw in rubbish.
if the food is not contaminated yeah?
It’s contaminated
As much as you right that's dirty water bro it is shit water
They can't claim insurance on voluntary donations dumbass...
Thank you for the upload. Very serious, and dampness from polluted waters could bring onoing issues also. Hope all to stay well.
🙏for the Auckland residents
This flooding is due to massive blockages that council has failed to up keep. In my area alone I called twice to the council stating there was blocked drains and they needed unblocking. There is so much plastic and rubbish that ends up filling these pipes up that the water has no where to go. I see rubbish everywhere these days. Once upon a time we as a country took a bit of pride and cared about such things. Today it seems no one cares. Pick up rubbish if it's in front of you and if you litter, shame on you. McDonald's and Coke seems to be popular in the waste. Covid masks are everywhere too. Once a green country, not no more. Shame on councils throughout NZ for not getting a grip on maintenance of infrastructure and investing in innovative recycling systems. Millions spent on our new waste system that every house must have yet we are still years behind in recycling and our laws to protect the environment.
Ah, another "once in a 100 year storm" hits New Zealand. I'm looking forward to the next "once in a 100 year storm" to hit us next year. Wonder which region will flood next?
Wait for the next few days….
Right 👉
More like next month
There will be no more "once in 100 years". Jesus is coming back soon. Repent and turn turn to Jesus for forgiveness of your sins
Next year? The weather system that brought this deluge is set to bring 3 more within the next month bud...
OMG. This is heart wrenching.
I work in auckland airport and the cargo area was fine so lucky we were fine but the auckland international terminal near to us heard got flooded inside
The one and only time you can ride the jetski down the Auckland motorway
LOL
Very informative for those of us not affected. Thankyou. Condolences to those who suffered losses.
Why not lift the houses up on to poles where possible , wouldnt be to hard , we lived in a pole house and were about 3m up so no worries about flooding .
get ready for round 2 tomorrow
they block the drains
Excellent photography
Beautiful down here in chch :3
This tragic makes me thinking about planning on plan A & B on what to do with the damaged property after a terrible flood situation 😢 Time to do research & what my insurance can offer.
How...yes extreme downpours but can we not add that the infrastructure of AUCKLAND is old and needs upgrading MR BROWN (Auckland mayor) OR SHOULD we be more concerned about the council lunch/dinner budgets, car rentals, and overnight stays?????
It was a given that due to Climate change catastrophes like this was a given.....BUT AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL AND MAYOR BROWN.....let us just close the gate AFTER THE BLOODY horse has bolted.
Great video man!
I didn't know the flood could get this big that they're able to get into buses too
I know - how about improving the state of New Zealand's wastewater, stormwater and drinking water system? You could call it Three Waters.
Flooding in Auckland, new Zealand water ways a little bit cleaner compare to others countries ,keep safe new Zealanders.

Auckland flooding bad 🤦🏻♀️
I hope Aucklanders aren't still whining about rain and floods are they ? Hell, Christchurch people were expected to be over the earthquakes the very next day. Those Aucklanders, not like us humans !!
The least affected is the vegetation. 👏👍👏👍for the 🌲🌳🌴
Depends, might lose a lot of trees from damp roots in the next few weeks
Seen alot of trees fallen over on Friday night
❤️🌍👀🙏
😱
Because of Jacinda’s insistence to help woke people understand basic needs from the public podium, people aren’t able to think for themselves and want to blame the mayor for declaring a state of emergency too late for the fact that they couldn’t think for themselves and got flooded out. It’s pretty basic, have a plan, be prepared
Do you even listen to yourself lmao
The nutters are out 🙄
Yeah... the plan is called having a mechanism where a mayor gives permission for Civil Defence to activate emergency protocols and resources that are not normally their day-to-day business operations. Jacinda didn't invent that, by the way. It is mass disaster planning 101: Have a plan, be prepared... to FOLLOW THE PLAN.... whether you are a citizen, or a firefighter, or a mayor, all should have/would have had designated mass disaster plans in place.
Agreed. The mayor doesn't need to say we are having an emergency for people to look out their window and see the streets flooding. Absolute stupidity to blame him
Did you see these guys still driving through flooded areas 12 hours after they were too deep to drive in
The effects of global warming right before our eyes
umm? NO, weather watch explained it had to do with the Tonga Volcano Eruption, so lots of wet weather and storms across the globe due to the huge amount of water spewed into the stratosphere. The Antarctic had had record low temperatures for the past two years, which is conveniently ignored, so NO.
Auckland drainage is the problem not global warming
lol
More like the effects of housing intensification, concreting over all land meaning water has to flow somewhere, no increase in drainage, and cutting funding for infrastructure maintenance
It's certainly one of many contributing factors.. decades of undergunding in infrastructure upgrades is what caused the extensive flooding and will only get worse as more high density housing and shoddy development practices are approved by the council.
Greta thunberg be like "this is why you should vote for the green party"
Aren't the greens the ones that promoted plastic bags to stop trees getting chopped down?
She's not wrong... just saying...
