YouTube Restricted Mode - 'Enabled By Network Administrator' - Forced On by Public Wifi 😮
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 16 окт 2024
- Turns out network administrators can force RUclips Restricted Mode to be turned on when you join their wifi network. In this case I was on the public wifi at Center Parcs and noticed that comments were disabled.. even on my account which definitely isn't set to restricted mode.
Looking in settings it said 'Turned on by your network administrator' and it wasn't a setting you could change! If I disconnect from the public wifi & go back on 4G it re-enables the option and restores the setting back to normal.
Here's how to turn it off on Android; • How to turn off YouTub...
And here's how to do the same on iOS; • How to turn off YouTub...
UPDATE: Here's how to turn it off on Android; ruclips.net/video/uatChw2Na4s/видео.html
And here's how to do the same on iOS; ruclips.net/video/IZSGFlYnTfw/видео.html
See I have the opposite. Restricted mode is forced on when I use my cell data instead of wifi
Yeah, I didn't realise that when I posted this video.. it's seems to be quite common on a lot of cell carriers, maybe especially in the US.
Same🤦🏾♂️
Any fix?
You could install a vpn.. I think that gets around the issue. Let us know how you get on.
I’m having the same problem
Omg this help me so much on my channel to reply to good comments bc I love to give them love back so I seen this video and you really help me tysm! ❤❤❤❤you have a new subscriber btw for your help you were the only one that helped me
You're welcome! Thank you for taking the time to write such a nice comment 😊
Thank you, I never thought it was the public WIFI doing this, I was staying a Travelodge hotel and using the WIFI, soon as I connected to my mobile data, restricted mode was lifted. thank you.
You’re welcome 🙂
For me it is the opposite when I’m on my cellular data it is restricted but if I turn on a VPN or switch to WiFi it works and this only started happening after I switch to T-Mobile I use to be sprint
T-Mobile are enforcing the restriction. Try setting a custom dns server on your phone, which should get around it.
SAME OMG
@@Endpoint101 how do you do that?
On Android look for ‘secure dns’ or something like that in settings.
@@Endpoint101 what about for iPhone?
I’m at Centerparcs too and the same thing happened! I could only leave this comment by logging off Wi-fi! It seems unusually restrictive. Thanks for doing the groundwork.
Hope you're having a fab time at Center Parcs! Love it there!!
I was having this problem with my home wifi. Thanks for the diagnostic.
It was solved by entering router admin interface and tinkering with DNS options and parental restrictions. No need to change anything, just move sliders leaving same config and reapply changes. Something was corrupted somehow.
Glad it was useful & you fixed it on your home network 🙂
It's all enforced by DNS on the local WiFi network you're joining. They force you to use RUclips restricted mode DNS servers and this is how it works. Essentially it's proxying all queries for RUclips to the restricted servers. You have to either use a VPN or mobile data to get around this (basically don't use the WiFi that's doing this!). It is unusually restrictive though. Edit: I guess you could try and point DNS to Google standard servers instead of theirs? Otherwise like I say use a VPN or mobile data.
What do I do if it’s on restricted mode while In phone service? I don’t have an admin so idk why I can’t turn it off
Same here. It still has restricted mode on mine but it's not connected to wifi
Which VPN do you use? (Name on playstore)
@@ulyssesdiaz1913 use a vpn or change your dns server manually or via some other method

thank you ! im actually at center parcs as well on holidays rn and i was so confused why restricted mode was on. thank you for helping :]
Hope you’re having a nice time at CP.. we love it there!
Yep I'm at center parcs as well lol
I didn't even have to watch the video. Your caption made me realize that's what the problem was, so I had to leave you a thumbs up and a thank you. I watched the video anyway. Thanks
🤣 thank you!
You saved my life oml
I’m at centre parcs and had their WiFi on and was looking for about an hour on how to turn restricted mode off
Ended up deleting RUclips and as soon as I heard you say “centre parcs” I almost cried 💀💀
😃 Which CP are you at?
@@Endpoint101 East Midlands
Woburn? We like that one.. It's pretty new compared to the others.
@@Endpoint101 honestly idk which one all
I know is that it’s the East Midlands 💀
🤣 Can’t go wrong with any Center Parcs tbh!
You don’t understand how much I hate that system
seriously dude
Edit: I realized they were only doing this to fiddle with the settings, with the goal of me going to bed.
I am having this issue with a private Wi-Fi network, my parents use eero Secure and they turned on restricted mode today. They said they would turn it off tomorrow, i'll just have to see. I found RUclips's restricted mode to be too restrictive, because it is hiding a lot of videos, because they have to be manually reviewed before being allowed on restricted mode. On top of that, it hides every single comment, so I basically can't see if a video is helpful or not based on the comments. The reason I can comment right now is because I am using another dns server so the default dns server wouldn't hide the comments. Anyways, I hate at what RUclips has done to restricted mode. I wish it only hid age restricted videos, and not "potentially mature" content. It's like being on RUclips kids but with less restrictions. I AM 13! THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!
OMG, currently at Elveden CP when my son said earlier he couldn’t comment on videos. I’ve just looked & neither can I. We both have our own channels. Just turned off the Wi-Fi to test and now working!
Check out my other videos which show you how to get around this without having to turn off wifi 😊 Hope you're enjoying CP.. Elveden isn't our regular one, but I have been to it a long time ago.
This issue literally irritated me, no solutions found. But your video make it worked, thanks a lot.
Brilliant! So glad it helped 😊
Thank you!! I'm experiencing this right now. You helped me figure out the problem. Apparently I'm not allowed to watch True Crime videos on my lunch break at work.... 🙄 I put on my data and it works just fine. Thanks!
I just experienced this today
my restricted mode turns on when i'm off wifi. any suggestions??
Talk to your cell carrier to ask them to switch that off, or you have to use a vpn 😔
@@Endpoint101 wait are you serious that's what's happening to me too or when im on a different wifi network other than my house wifi
Judging by other people’s experience, it does seem to be the cell carrier enforcing it.. and I’m betting you can ask for it to be turned off.
Thank you!!! I was so confused how this restricted mode was on and after I turned on my cellular data it worked!! Thanks!
You’re welcome ☺️
My problem is i can use everything on my wifi but wen i try to listen to music without my wifi it dosent work it says restricted help?
Idk if anyone needs this anymore, I'm currently working for Tmobile US, if you are a Sprint/Tmobile customer try going into your online Sprint/Tmobile account to PREFFRENCES > LIMITS AND PERMISSIONS > BLOCK ADULT CONTENT AND MALWARE and disable that setting, idk how many this might help but it's worth giving it a shot
Thank you.. I hope this helps folks on TMobile in the US
I've watched 3 to 4 videos and could not figure out what I was doing wrong. Thank you so much!
You're very welcome! 😊
My phone does the exact opposite. When the wifi is on, it's restricted. So I turn it off and it's not restricted. My phone has unlimitef data and it still says restricted mode but im not connected to any wifi. I need help. I followed all the steps and nothing changed. I writing this comment while the wifi is on with no resticted mode.
I thought I might as well leave you a comment since you’ve fixed my problem. 🙏
Brilliant! Glad it helped 🙂
I have a different problem. I am using the same RUclips account on my iPhone and iPad, but the iPhone is restricted because I used the school WiFi once. Now whenever my phone is on cellular, it is on Restricted mode, while my iPad with the same RUclips account is not.
My phone goes into restricted mode when I go off of wifi. It’s been going on for like a month so ig I just have to have to live with it
@@WolfLighter01 basically what’s happening to my phone. Are you using T-Mobile or Sprint?
@@fightersfan5363 i’m using t mobile (recent switch from the merge with sprint) and I can’t do anything without a VPN
Could you set a custom dns (for free).. that might help & would mean you wouldn’t need a vpn.
The big BS is that you can't see certain videos that are actually safe yet you still can see some videos that contain mature things!
What I can say that in my public wifi, this mode is not enforced all the time, sometimes it's gone for a while but back without any reason (especially after re-login to its capture portal), possibly because the network is too big to be managed efficiently (it kinda spans for a whole state). Checking in cmd: ipconfig /all, I can see that its dns is already set to google's (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) so I guess I could only use mobile data or vpn. Though for seeing comment, you can use external site to load all the comments on a video.
Alternatively, you can use extensions like youtube unblocker which specific for youtube in chrome without having your whole pc going through your vpn (like youtube web proxy but much better), it has free version with annoying ads and premium one.
omds tysm I'm literally at center parcs rn and this helped sm
Hope you’re having a great time!

i’m having this problem on my iphone but when i turn on data and turn off restricted mode and go back on my wifi it turns on again
On my phone lit didn’t work fr me it only did when I turned all of them off the networks when I put them back on it turned back but without the internet how am I going to go to RUclips it’s iOS btw
when I use my router the restriction is there but when i switch to mobile data the restriction isn't lifted.
I just had to get back into Wi-Fi to see the comments. What can I do? I reset my network settings to forget all Wi-Fi networks. I still have the problem. Anyone able to fix this?? It’s been a year for me.
Does this help? ruclips.net/video/uatChw2Na4s/видео.html
Thank you!!! This helped me because it just started!! I was confused on how it went to restricted mode!! Thank you!!
Glad it helped! It really confused me at first too.
It kind of creeps me out that wifi at my work, a hospital, can change the settings on my RUclips account on my phone. I'll stick to using my data from now on. Been using the wifi here for years and this is the first time I'm seeing this happen.
Right!? I've been working here for 6 months and this has never been a problem before. Now all of a sudden they're trying to control what we watch during out breaks? That seems way too controlling to me.
For some reason whenever I turn on my data my phone goes on restricted mode
Your cell provider is unfortunately restricting it 😔 You might be able to ask them to change it.. let us know how you get on!
So when I turn off my wifi it turns back on for some reason?
Turns restrictions back on? If that’s the case, it’s your mobile service who are enforcing the restriction.. lots of people commented on their provider doing that.
@@Endpoint101 is there some way of fixing it?
CenterParcs here too. Ended up using a VPN. Presume either they add headers to the network requests (but I guess SSL prevents this) or have some deal with RUclips to enable this on certain IP ranges
Looks like this support page tells admins how to force a PC (or whatever) to show SafeSearch results .. support.google.com/websearch/answer/186669 .. so if you use a VPN or custom DNS provider, you can get around the restriction.
Hope you enjoyed CP!
When i use my mobile data the problem appears. And i don't any idea why is it happening.
If you contact your mobile provider, you can see if they can turn off that setting on your account.
For me, it's the opposite lol?
for some reason it's the opposite for me. when i have my wifi off, restricted mode is on. when i'm connected to the wifi, then restricted mode is off
Same for me
Me three
Thank, I have no idea why RUclips does this.
Hey guys, i’ve found a solution to this problem that worked for me! All you have to do is go to your settings on your phone, and reset your network settings. It will erase any wifi passwords or bluetooth connections, so you’ll have to connect to them again. But if you’re on an iPhone, go to Settings>General>Transfer or Reset iPhone>Reset>Reset Network Settings.
Hope this helps!
For me its the opposite, when I turn on my phone data it says restricted mode on my comments and I can't turn it off. I have an iphone, is there different method for this?
It’s being restricted by your network/mobile/cell provider. You can ask them to turn this off. Who are you with TMobile?
@@Endpoint101 Yes I am with tmobile
@@Endpoint101 How do I ask them to turn it off?
Hopefully someone reading these comments with T-Mobile can give us more info, but I'm guessing if you just call customer service, or raise a helpdesk ticket with them they can sort that out for it. It's a level of parental control that they've got enabled by default.
You helped solve my very mysterious problem!
Brilliant!
Every time I use the WiFi on the public bus system it does this restricted mode thing. So strange. It’s not age restricted. I can watch whatever I want. Just the comments are blocked by the administrator. Wiered
I did the same thing in iPhone but the opposite when I am in my home wifi It shows the comments and videos but when I turned off the Wi-Fi just to go out or even turn off the Wi-Fi at my own house it still shows up restrictions and video says it’s inappropriate for no reason
It'll be your mobile provider who are restricting things.. you might be able to reach out to them to ask for the restrictions to be turned off for your mobile account.
I think it must be center parcs that’s the problem because I’m there right now and it’s done the exact same thing😂
Just happened to me pretty sure my brother did it on my home network but you can open RUclips on LTE and then turn it off and use wi fi as a work around
For me it was the wifi i was using..cause if i use another public wifi they are back on again...but this wifi is close to where i live😕 thanks for this video.
NOW I CAN COMMENT TYSM!!
Yay! ☺️
When I do it and go back restricted modes gone what should I do, it happens only at my mom's and almost all videos are blocked my phone's fine my tablet isn't
Try adding a custom dns server on your tablet.. Google have dns servers on 8.8.8.8
@@Endpoint101 thank you , I just got it to work I had to go into my age and just click check and it got rid of restriction while the internet was off then resetting RUclips it worked

Hey So I have a similar problem but with Google, so basically if I search up something and is remotely "innaproriate" it will not show the results, so I thought if I clicked off on safe search it would work, right? But when I offed it, my search will still not show up, and btw this is recent, I always used my home wifi and searched up the exact same thing, but suddenly it dosent work and even if I try my own mobile data, it dosent work, and it's the same acroos all accounts which are connected to the same wifi, and idk how to change the think with the wifi, if anyones got any suggestions to help? Looks like this support page tells admins how to force a PC (or whatever) show SafeSearch results .. support.google.com/websearch/answer/186669 so it could be some software on your PC is doing that, or your ISP (either by parental controls, or by default unless you tell them not to). Is it because im on my school computer? Im using my personal wifi.
Quite possibly.. the school might have some software on there to restrict RUclips, or they could have altered the hosts file.

What’s the point of wifi if your not even gunna use it???? I don’t know why this video has thousands of likes
People are trying to solve the problem I outlined in the video.. it only affects public wifi provided by some companies or cell carriers.
This video is a brain dead.
And this video only applies to cellular users
For one, most cellular people won’t even think to use public wifi because it’s unsafe, slow, and straight up restricting, and turning off wifi is VERY common knowledge.
Oh yea, my comment was kinda in wrong place, since this applies to public wifi only, since I recently installed a Xfinity router, and only recently has it been enabling RUclips restricted mode
