    I think it’s simple. Once upon a time, deceased corpses were the domain of Rhosus and Mariners, while spirits/ghost were the domain of Death rite and death birds. Godwyn died but didn’t die true, which maybe gave him access to both the dead realm and the spirit realm. His soulless body being alive infesting the Erdtree probably has access to death in every realm. Death rite birds live again and raises spirits, Mariner live again and raises skeletons, Godwyn raises them all. He’s like…the zombie god. Just my head cannon

    I love the design and concept of the Tibia Mariners both visually and in the fight itself, so super excited to watch this! I don't mind how easy their fights are, but it would also be cool if there was some big Tibia Mariner superboss or something

    I like to believe that the reddish wisps of trailing light you see in the Mountaintop of the Giants is a part of the light of the Helphin, seeing as how there are so many who live in death there.

    Neat, I hadn't noticed the red light of this guy. He dies so fast that he barely gets the chance to use it.
    But did you also notice the violet hue of the rest of his magic? That's gotta be the color that the grave violet mentions, which means the mariner is rowing on a river of ghostflame. Brrr chilly!

  • @dumbanddarby
    @dumbanddarby 5 месяцев назад +15

    I have a theory between the relationship of the Mariners and the Deathbirds. Since both are hinted/confirmed to have existed before the rune of death. The Mariners could guide Those Who Live In Death to the grounds that Deathbirds burn the bones of the dead with ghostflame. After that, the Mariners would then guide their spirits through the Helphen using that red light.

    • @Grimsly3736
      @Grimsly3736 5 месяцев назад +2

      So would Tibia themself be a acolyte of the Deathbird god?

    • @dumbanddarby
      @dumbanddarby 5 месяцев назад +3

      By that logic, the Deathbirds could also be acolytes, though more connected to their god. Since both in some way (long ago) aid the dead in their passing. Maybe this is what the unnamed god of death wanted. Before the rune of death complicated things.

    • @Grimsly3736
      @Grimsly3736 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@dumbanddarby I wonder what happened to the deathbird god, cause like they just vanished and another death god stepped in (being my glorious Gloam-Eyed Queen) but her concept of death which is Destined Death is different than this viking afterlife ghost flame grants

    • @Nemo12417
      @Nemo12417 5 месяцев назад +1

      The Twin Bird was an envoy of an Outer God. The Gloam Eyed Queen, by contrast, was an Empyrean who, at best, became a god akin to Marika.

  • @egoborder3203
    @egoborder3203 5 месяцев назад +6

    it just occurred to me that the heralds also use golden horns for their abilities, I wonder if there's some connection?

  • @maiafay
    @maiafay Месяц назад +1

    Why would Godwyn be their leader? He’s just as afflicted as they are. I think the Gloam eyed Queen is the one they are waiting for as her rune has been stolen for quite a while now. The Mariners also have her signature dusky hued glow. Same with Melina’s eye. With Destined Death halfway returned, perhaps she has some agency still left in the lands between. Or is waiting for a vessel for her power. Could be Godwyn in that aspect, but he’s a little useless in that form. He’d have to be reborn somehow. But the fact the mariners seem to predate the golden order and so does the gloam eyed queen make me think they are connected. Her whole purpose is death. The golden order has many factions under them. There’s no reason why the gloam eyed queen’s order wouldn’t have similar. Those who live in death, godskins, etc.

    I don't think the shadow tree is the Helphen. It's written to have a steeple. Pretty strange description for a tree. So it is probably some sort of church, tower, or cathedral. What springs to mind is the opening scene where dead tarnished are being anointed with incense to be called back to the lands between. That could very well be inside the Helphen building.

    The Rune of Death is dark red. Ghostflame is pale blue. Mix them and you get purple, like the mariners or Grave Violets. In fact, in an earlier version of the game, Maliketh's sword glowed purple.
    In Hawkshaw's color theory of Elden Ring, purple signifies otherworldly things.

    I think it could also be easily explained that if the Tibia Mariner existed prior to the Deathroot corrupting it - it could be just that - corruption. Not necessarily that they existed with those same exact powers before. Somehow the Albinaurics in Moghwyn's Palaca can also summon like the Tibia Mariner

    The mariners and the spectral waters they ride have a light purple color that is similar to the color of the sleep effects of St. Trina. Sleep and death seem to be associated, especially considering we fight the Lichdragon Fortissax in the Deathbed Dream, and Godwyn and Miquella (aka St. Trina) are so closely associated.

    Presumably deathroot is just one way to create those who live in death. The deathbirds had the job of burning the bodies of the dead with ghostflame to syphon the souls from their bodies. Depending on the process, being denied this relief of the soul could have created those who live in death in the past, turning their souls into wraiths and their bodies into skeletons.

    I figured tibia referred to the pipe because it looks to be a combination of a flared tibia organ pipe like those used in some Eastern European churches in lieu of the usual church bells and a steppe horn, both used as a call to worship or gather.

    Has anyone else recognized the similarities between the Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and those who live in death in Elden Ring. For one a Mariner is telling the story in Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and in the story he is chosen by She Who Lives in Death to live and wander the earth as his penance for killing an Albatross. Not to mention the crew does come back to life. Just something I realized

    Once I Attained The Sword & Read The Description, The 1st Thing That Came To Mind Was "Over The Garden Wall".
    The Lampwood In That Tale Is Gathered At Night. It Is Special In That, It Keeps A Certain Flame (Light) From Going Out.

    Compared to the other enemies related to Those Who Live in Death, the Mariners certainly have a very striking and memorable visual design: of course they resemble Charon the Ferryman, but they are literal ghost dudes chilling in their ghostly boats on dry land.
    And the 'leadership' that's referred to could ultimately refer either Godwyn or whichever Elden Lord deigns to use the Mending Rune of Death to allow Those Who Live in Death a place in the new order rather than being something to be chased out and exterminated, but in the meantime the Mariners can act as some kind of leadership, bringing all these despondent beings together under a single banner rather than wandering aimlessly.
