I live in Cochise county and I don't like how Tombstone has changed in to a tourist trap. You have to pay now to visit the cemetery. Used to be anyone could enter the cemetery and pay their respects without having to pay for admission. I realize everyone's got to make a living, but somehow this just doesn't seem right. It used to be people would dress up in 19th century garb and hang out all day talking to friends and visitors along the boardwalks. You could meet people from all over the country especially in the winter when the snowbirds came to town from the northern climates. It rather looked like a town in the 1800's with everyone dressed the part. The last time I went things were much different and everything had an exorbitant price. The atmosphere had totally changed. Sorry for the rant, I guess I'm just feeling my age.
I do not know any historic cememtery that it cost to go into! So YES that is pretty bad thatthey are doing that! UNLESS that money is going to the upkeep of it, it shouldn't be!
Visited about 20 years ago stayed a few night above the store across from the Bird Cage theatre don’t recall paying to get into Tombstone or if it was a donation. It was rather sad that the locals had moved up the road making Tombstone more like a living museum the town at night was a ghost town with a few bars and a restaurant open they may as well rolled up the sidewalk. Enjoyed the visit through the day lots of visitors and thing to see, but it was deserted at night. We visited from Scotland
I do understand your rant. Because of media and Hollywood your graveyard has become a tourist attraction. This I don't think has ever happened in any other country in the world. Certainly the history of tombstone was much elevated by Hollywood . Hollywood is only and always about the dollar and has perverted the real history of tombstone
I live in Tombstone and understand how you feel. In reality, I think that the reason that we are " too tough to die" is because we do have tourists that come from all over the World in order to catch a glimpse of the old West that they have read about. So welcome all. They keep us from becoming one of the endless ghost towns that surround us.
Boothill, which wasn't called Boothill until the mid 1920's, was actually the THIRD cemetery. The first being near the Contention Mine but was getting covered by tailings, then there was another across the street from what is now Family Dollar. Then of course, the 4th cemetery is the Tombstone City Cemetery being used from 1884 to present day. 😉
Been there to that cemetery. It's a great peace of history you all must see. Also you must visit the tombstone itself and walk down the old Allen Street. Tomb stone closes at dusk 5pm because it's haunted so go early.
Had much fun in Tombstone in the 70s. Stayed at the bordello b&b, went into the nearby desert, and did some pistol shooting (cowboy golf). Returned some years later and won't go back. Even Dos Cabezas is turning touristy. yuk
My parents lived in Tombstone for 25 years and I worked for Herold Love...that grave site is. B.S. period there is a China man cementry behind it I know..lived 50ft. behind it...
The southwest is really interesting. If you drive off the main highway you end up finding little old roadside cemeteries. Even found a couple of headstones said “Pal of Billy the Kid”.
Nope, we are a real town. Long history and one of the few that have not become ghost towns. We are however the second largest tourist attraction next to the Grand Canyon in the State of Arizona.
@@4cornernan I know town is real and vibrant but always wondered if those somewhat comical grave markers on boot hill were real or placed there for effect such as Les Moore etc
@@larryrobinson6914 They are not the original gravestones, time and people took care of that. But they've done the research and it is an actual graveyard!!
Nothing wrong with tourists coming in and seeing a real old time town especially foreign people come over and want to see a really old time place, that's how they picture our country cowboys and Indians.
I was fortunate to visit Boothill Cemetery with mom and nephew in early 90s. Loved it and informative.
People dont come there to pay respect, they come for morbid curiosity. Huge difference.
I was a kid when I last visited Tombstone & Boot Hill. I really need to go back now that I'm almost 30. Not too bad of a distance from Colorado.
Been to Tombstone many times, it’s a fun place to visit!

exactly you have to paid $3 bucks. It doesn't seem right to pay for a visit to see the dead. Arlington cemetery is free....

I was stationed there from 74-76. HHC USAEPG Avn Br. I rode my little XL250 all over that part of the country. Good times.
Did any ove you serve with General Flynn? I heard he was there for a time.

It's at the same site. But cleaned up & moved over.

Is there a 2000 year old tree in tombstone
I really wonder if any 1 is in these graves or is it All a story
I think the real Boot Hill was destroyed in a flash flood several years ago...but where there's money to be made they'll be a Boot Hill

Yeah but is that really a cemetery? So many ask
Yes, it really is a cemetery. I am not sure that all of the bodies rest under the tombstone.
