Thanks for the nice description. The reason for these codes is a discrepancy between ISS and OSS (speed sensors). Check and make sure ISS and OSS are not outputting a low AMPLITUDE signal. If so, then take care of that first. Everyone wants to rebuild the trans right away. Do your homework first. I have some los cost APPs on Android Google Play that guide you in testing the ISS and OSS, which are sensors. Good luck.
Mechanics often go for a whole transmission rebuild because it's a sure thing and they don't want to take the risk. The right thing to do is diagnose the issue, for a fee ($) of course, assuming you want to pay just for a diagnostics. Form your description, look into a possible warped valve body that acts up when the car has reached full temperature. Issue that relate to when the car is COLD or HOT tend to relate to that.
The ISS and OSS are the hart of any new electronic transmission system. The ISS tells the TCM the engine or input shaft rotational speed. The TCM uses this signal and the OSS along with the TPS and others to effect shifting. Hope this helps.
Thanks Mandy. I love to understand the theory and want some expert like you to confirm if iam right. I dont have any trouble.. Thanks again for your help. Just to let you know i always look for ur videos for any new uploads. to be honest i am like no nothing before i find your site, now i am positive that i know the theory and basics very well.. i am proud to be ur subscriber..
That sounds just about right. But what exactly are you looking for? What is it that's troubling you? You seen to understand the theory behind it pretty well.
This code means that the ISS and OSS show a discrepancy in speed. These speed tables are pre-programmed into the ECM. Possibilities include the ISS or OSS itself, slipping transmission, or one way clutch defective (mechanical issues). More often than not, for this type of code, if the ISS and OSS sensors are fine, you'll need to rebuild the transmission. sorry for the bad news...
No, that's nay true what Toyota says. YOU'RE RIGHT, how is it going to shift in manual mode when the shifts are done by the SS to begin with? The one thing that will help you A LOT is the type of code. All codes are P0XXX - Shift Sol. A Electrical or S Sol. A Error on High or S Sol. A Mechanical Error. These are examples, but the ECM arrives at them through days of testing. For a mechanical code to set, the ECM saw something very mechanical, so trust the code. Makes sense?
Well, let's start with posting the year make and model and engine size of your vehicle. Then again include the post you just made so I don't have to hunt down the post again. Thanks for sharing.
That sounds like an issue with the valve body. Often times it warps. You should also look into the pressure control solenoids. When you are at a full stop, the PCS also barely works so it may be clogged up at idle. Post back with more information such as codes present.
on video you told that there is two type of sensors - magnetic with 2 wires and hal with 3 wires, but on my car sensors have 4 wires... what type of sensor on my car? ( Mitsubishi FTO, gearbox F4A42)
I see what you mean... Look, remember that today's engine's are totally computerized. Yes, the throttle is changing. Your foot (accelerator position sensor) is not changing, but the throttle does change when you downshift. Besides, by virtue of the vehicle speed, the actual forward movement will also raise RPM. I hope that cleared it... Thanks.
NO, reverse has nothing to do with the OSS. You probably have a bad reverse clutch. Reverse issues almost always need the trans to be opened up. Sorry to be the harbinger of bad news. Double check the power feed to the solenoid and make sure the TCM is commanding the solenoid ON OFF...
Thanks Mandy, I have requested another question .. i will repeat that question over here again.. when i downshift why RPM is increasing. i have honda pilot auto transmission running at 45mph with 1/4 throttle pressed with RPM of example say 2500, i manually downshifted to 3rd gear using manual lever with my 1/4 throttle still pressed with no change, my RMP goes to 3000+ why ?.. engine is pumping and rotating same speed before , no change in gas pedal.. any relation to torq conv, clutch, please.
I have a 1998 Chrysler sebring convertible with a code of p0732. I was driving on the freeway when one of the transmission lines with the rubber connections dislodged from the metal section of the line. As a result all the transmission fluid leaked out. The shop that I took it to replaced fluid. The car will move in first gear and also reverse. The car also has the auto/stick feature. While driving in regular "drive mode",after shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, the transmission fails. While parked and in the " stick"mode, I move the gear from 1st to 2nd then to 3rd and I can feel the transmission shift. I also hear a slight noise when it shifts to 2nd. Do I replace the speed sensors or replace the transmission as the shop suggests.
Have a 06 chrysler 300 42rle transmission with dtc P0736. Has no reverse gear engagement. Replaced solenoid with no different results. Could this be caused by a bad output sensor?
I have a Fiat Punto 2011 dualogic.I have p0720 code at only and always 130 km/h speed. When the car is under 120 km/h code (warning) is disappearing.i changed the oss and complete gearbox. Still same problem. :(What do u think? Where should i look to fix it? Please help me.
my 2004 dodge stratus randomly switched into neutral while I was driving. i used an obd code reader and it gave me that code. im going to change the fluid and filter tonight. is my transmission going to need to completely be rebuilt?
Hi, to differentiate electrical solonoid (let say shift control solonoid) or mechanical problem(say clutch or band slippage), toyota manual recommend to test both in Drive mode and Manual Gear(let say 3,2,and 1). If the problem doesnt occur on Manual Gear but in Drive mode then it claims it is electonic problem. What i didnt understand is even in manual gear, solonoid is still going to opearte so how by doing manual gear willl eliminate electrical / solonoid issue..any clue please
I have a 2008 Chrysler town and country check engine light is on and on Monday it started going into limp in mode therefore it stays on 2nd gear I checked codes and it reads po792 po731 po733 and po734 when it stays on 2nd gear I turn it off and on then it changes gears. Can you please help me!!!
have a 2006 mercury mariner with a code p0732 gear 2 incorrect ratio, from drive goes to 4000 rpm before shifts to another speed, any advise before drop the trany thanks
what does a input shaft or turbine speed sensor do on a 1998 ford escort? the car has rough shifting and wont shift into overdrive. some times when the transmission worked fine all gears shifted with no problem at all, but two days ago the problem has become permanent. code p0715 showed up, witch it says "input speed sensor circuit malfunction". i was wondering if this has anything to do with the shifting problem. and transmission shows no sing of slipping gears.
Hi, I have VW Passat with a 5 speed tiptronic auto gearbox. At randon the ALL gear selector lights up on the dash and the car goes into LIMP mode, the car still drives (slow). Had a scan done, the error codes are: 1. P0733- Gear 3 incorrect ratio 2. P0732 Gear 2 incorrect ratio 3. P0741- Torque converter clutch stuck on off- no power being transferred. Local mechanics advise rebuilding the box. Pls advise if that is correct remedy or is it just the speed sensors that need replacing. Thanks
1990 Ford E350,E4OD Transmission,Starts out in 2nd,Must manual shift to 3rd,No 1st or Over Drive,Scanner not reading when connected to EEC outlet,What might be causing these problems.Thank You
Let's make sure scanner is communicating first. On Fords this year the ECM runs both the trans and engine if it's an electronic transmission. It's an iffy on those early years. Look for power and ground issues to ECM first. Then post back with more.
My problemes that when I'm driving and a stop, the trassmision not responding so I have to put the parking and then D and connected again but this happens at every stop .. I would appreciate your help ..
Tanks Let me explain if i have understood properly. Let's say engine is in 3rd gear with gear ratio (1.1 example), RPM is 3000 at 40mph, when i shift to 2nd gear with gear ratio(1.7) at same 40MPH, RPM have to be increased because gear ratio for 2nd gear is 1.7 and not 1.1, so with gear ratio of 1.7 reaching 40mph requires more RPM let say 4000. To get 4000 rpm, wheel speed force 2nd gear, which force torque converter then it force engine to increase rpm to match the vehicel speed, am i right?.
Hi I have been having the same problem. I have done transmission oil change and fuel filter and fuel out line and map and maf and iat sensor. I am thinking of camshaft or crankshaft sensor or try diesel fuel pump. How did you get yours fixed.
man ive had so many problems with my car :/ at once i had 13 codes haha. well i was wondering if anyone here could help me out. ive fixed most of the bigger issues in my car but im left with three now... "cam- po340 and po733 & po732 which are the gear solenoids? ive replaced the cam sensor but it keeps coming up at random! its hard to drive my car when its cold i have to let it run and warm up on idle before i drive off of it will struggle shifting! any advide?
Thanks for your answer, I just bought the place the transmission in my caravan 06 .. and that the stop is not running, and pulled 2 codes .. Incorrect gear ratio P0732 and P0732 Transmission Control System Request ... use Google translate. sorry for my spelling .. thanks

Your probably have air in the lines. Don't bother replacing the SS. They're costly and running the trans without fluid will not damage the sensors.

TPS sensor is a major input to the transmission.

I am not a Psychic, what was the code? If you change the fluid the trans may never change.
