Gosh! Im so sorry to hear that about your relaxer experience.
I had Japanese Hair Straighting done for the 1st time in February (which is like a relaxer but it's healthier on the hair and gives you bone straight results).
When i was about to go to this salon I had to ask them who was going to do my hair, the names of the stylist, have they worked with African american hair before, what the process was like (even though I knew what they were supposed to do), and how long it would take + the total cost (so I wouldn't be over charged).
Ps: I texted them about the cost so it would be in writing and I have proof.
The salon I went to did a good job superficially, but when I went to wash ny hair after the mandatory 3 day no wash period, I had a bit of texture left in my hair when my hair is supposed to be textureless while wet.
I had to take detailed pictures and drive back for them to "correct" the mistake. They gave me a karatin treatment which strengthened my hair but didnt remove the texture. So the second 1 hour 40 min trip to correct the mistake was a bust.
However they were really nice, didn't charge me for the correction appointment so I decided to give them another shot this time around because they have the best price for this service and are the closest to me.
I haven't washed my hair yet but hope it turns out better. I saw a different stylist at the same salon and he attempted to correct all the spots missed before with the actual chemical (but left it in for a shorter time on those parts).
Moral of the story, it's like these days I feel like no matter how much vetting you do, the questions you ask, or if you check them during the service, you just dont know what their actual results will be like until you try.

I completely agree, people can tell you anything but it’s not until you’ve tried their services then the results will tell you what you need to know. I’ve actually never heard of this treatment before though, I’m kinda curious now.

@@Reallifewithamanda I definitely encourage you to check out this form of permanent straightening on African (type 4) hair.
It gives amazing results...youtube has great videos on this form of chemical straightener on black women.
You know how Asian women are shown to hair that long thick silky smooth black hair, this is how they get it: they have their own (healthier version) of a "relaxer". 95% of them don't have natural silky straight hair, but this us how they get it.

No. They are purposefully doing this. My long time stylist used to relax all my hair from root to tip every time. I was soooo mad after my hair would fall out. But I never knew.

Thank you! I’m happy I know as much as I do about hair now as a few years ago I didn’t have as much knowledge & experienced alot of hair cuts due to damage

I could relate to alot of you said having gone to stylists in my country. Firstly, for years when doing my relqxer no stlyist based my scalp. 😯. I went to one last relaxer and when she saw the base on my scalp she was like do you burn easily i said no just something preventative. Also, they always overlap. No one care about not passing where the new growth is. Its so frustrating. For the deep conditioner, non existent. On relaxer days they only use rinse out conditioners. No deep conditioning. For handling the hair rough i have had my fair share with them. Trimming, o lord, they do the same comb back and then trim. No going in and trimming the shorter layers. If i have to tell i stlyist how to care my hair, sis i dont need to sit in your chair. I have had it with them and theit sloppy attitude towards proper hair care worst when you are using tresseme on everyone's hair. Like that brand does not work well. Smh. So i can definitely relate to the struggles you experienced.

Omg yessss! If I have to coach a professional on how to do their job why am I here? And why am I paying ? They should be paying us at this point 🤦🏾‍♀️

@@Reallifewithamanda its just ridiculous with them. The only reason i dont take on self relaxing fully is because i cant see the back clearly

Same here, I used to self relax a few years ago but that led to damage do I’m very nervous to even try again.

    Oh wow😒
My daughter does my hair the 1st 2 styles I had they didn't have my hair's best interests in heart and a ruined my hair the 3rd styles I went to alladiya church gave me her information I called her I went to her for maybe 45 months she got my hair back on track and she told me things to do at home actually she told what products to use and oils and that really helped my hair Afterwards my daughter started doing my hair and my hair looks just like I went to us alone and my hair is healthy and it's growing on so sorry you had to go through that I feel like slapping her myself😠tfs God bless you 🙏🏽❤

No sir. The base part, I would have left. No way! No way! This is why I do my own hair. If I screw it up, I did it! No way I would pay someone to do that. I don't have a stylist near me,so that is why I am staying natural!😂

I honestly thought I would be able to work with her through it & give her a fair chance. She has traumatized me. I don’t generally encourage self relaxing but this experience definitely had me consider it 😩

@@ReallifewithamandaI sis, you are in an area where stylists should be able to do your hair the way YOU want. You are paying her. Next time you have to go through that, don't allow them to do your hair
