    Just before he moved to Hawaii, I met with Jonas so he could autograph the cartridges for the Best of Five Kickstarter. When we were discussing where to sign, I pointed to the large blank area on the bottom of the cartridge. He declined. Instead, he went out of his way to sign in the smallest area possible so that the other past champions (Joseph and Harry at the time) had plenty of room to shine. That was Jonas in a nutshell. Everyone and everything he touched was better for it. I feel like that philosophy is still what defines the Tetris community today.

    OMG Scout, what an AMAZING video! A needed and befitting tribute to Jonas for whom it can't be stated enough is the pillar of this community which led us to the thriving scene that exists today. Connecting the professional aspect of what we do reminded me of how competing in NES Tetris myself at NWC back in the day paved the way to make video games my entire life spanning multiple parallel jobs in the industry - and follow my dreams. Diversifying and leveraging gained skills is key - and its nice that you highlighted the standout options in the modern era. Seeing these kinds of opportunities open up - especially for the new generation of players - is exactly the kind of thing I'm so proud of our community for making possible. We all built *this* together piece by piece... but it was Jonas Neubauer who showed us the best way to stack, leading by example!

    I definitely understand why Salt didn't entirely cover the full rise and tragedy of Jonas during his Tetris history. It was way more fitting to allow someone covering these tournaments in greater detail to be the one to really go at length on him. Salt is all about record progression and the people who made new strategies, this one is about the full community.

      Salt mentioned it on his Q&A vid, and explained quite well why he didn't mention it in that, but said that a CTWC video will be coming in a couple years where he will address it.

  • @titopaul9299
    @titopaul9299 12 дней назад +15

    For me, the intangible that Jonas Neubauer had was an amazing personality with an ability to welcome people sincerely to the community. I remember your memorial video Scout where you talked about his kindness to you when you first came to CTWC as a new person before you had produced any popular videos.
    I had my own share of that when I visited his live stream only one time and really enjoyed when he was talking about how much he enjoyed being married to his wife, so I gave him two dollars acknowledging the positive comments he was making. And when the game was over. He saw that I was a new contributor called out my name, toasted me and said thank you. I’ll never forget that.

    It's great to see so many young people (like late Gen Z-Alpha) getting into a classic 8-bit version of Tetris. And I have CRAZY respect for these guys' skills. Back in the days when I played it as a kid it took me a lot of practice to get good enough to clear Level 9 even (which is just half the speed of Level 18, or 1/6 the speed of Level 29 & beyond).

I couldn’t believe that a grown man would care about something so “silly “as Tetris, I had a warped view of what was important and what wasn’t and it really taught me That if you give value to something that it has value, it doesn’t need to have anything inherently. If being the best at Tetris is the most important thing in the world to you than by god it is.
