- The third and final set (in one-go) for the day of SHAKE 'EM UP JAZZ BAND. On this special day, July 11th, 2019, the sun was shining from a clear-blue sky giving the air a pleasant feeling. As part of their European Tour, the band graced Denmark's capital, Copenhagen, for three days. A pre-festival event took place at Kroeger's Have (Garden), a 30-minute walk west of Tivoli and the Main Railway Station. Most of the guests at this popular seasonal restaurant seemed more interested in eating and chatting and probably didn´t have a clue who were playing. Members of the band are: Molly Reeves, guitar, vocals; Chloe Feoranzo, clarinet, vocals; Marla Dixon, trumpet, vocals; Julie Schexnayder, string bass; Defne "Dizzy" Incirlioglu, washboard; Haruka Kikuchi, trombone, vocals and baby-sitting. Videographed from a low position, sitting on the gravel, with a hand-held SONY HandyCam, FDR-AX100 in FH quality mode.
What a treat! Many thanks, CANDCJ. The first tune is Lil Hardin's 'Skid-Dat-De-Dat'; the second is Johnny St. Cyr's 'Oriental Strut'; the third Byron Gay's 'Four or Five Times'; the fourth George Whiting and Walter Donaldson's 'My Blue Heaven' (Shouta's favourite so far). I look forward to hearing the others when I have some spare time!
I've now heard the rest. Tune 5 is 'Root, Hog, or Die!' (see playing-traditional-jazz.blogspot.com/2016/11/root-hog-or-die.html), Tune 6 is 'Sugar Blues', composed in 1919 by Clarence Williams and Lucy Fletcher, Tune 7 is 'A Woman's Place is in the Groove' by Vivien Garry (see playing-traditional-jazz.blogspot.com/2018/01/post-587-womans-place-is-in-groove-from.html), Tune 8 is 'Goodnight Sweetheart', composed in 1951 by Calvin Carter and James Hudson.
Baby's just chillin...Loving every moment of being immersed directly in the middle of this great music. That's going to be one well grounded kid when he starts to grow up.
I too am amazed that Haruka Kikuchi, can play trombone with her left hand and babysit with her right hand, and the then play amazing music WOW What a great band!!!

Kudos to Ms. Kikuchi, I played trombone in high school (average, at best) and I can not imagine trying to do so with a child in my lap. To be able to do so well AND improvise is remarkable!

Thanks for your comment. Believe the musicians need some time to finish one tune, clear their minds and get their full attention into the next. With a good picture and sound, a full set might get you the feeling of being there.

I knew someone would say that. I thought about it and then I realised that if ladies want to take over parts of what was once dominated by the males, there will be a difficulty penalty. That is paid for by the children. Next comment: "where's the father?" Are we allowed to ask that?
