I loved the show, everyone in it has done an amazing job, but for me Ruth’s performance was simply memorable, from the first minute she appears on screen until the moment she meets her end, she was absolutely brilliant.
Ruth Wilson really is amazing as Mrs Coulter. All the nuances, smiles and fake surface covers up for the fact that she loves her daughter. It is tricky to play that but she gets it..
Ruth Wilson's portrayal of Marisa Coulter was absolutely astonishing. In the first season she made me dislike her and even hate for the way she treated people around, her daemon and her own daughter, but then, getting to know her better, I gradually started falling for her, all due to Ruth Wilson's remarkable acting. When I was reading the books in my childhood, I didn't feel this way. Her relationship with the golden monkey was somehow the most special to me. She has already told everything about it and all the other things related to Mrs. Coulter's condradictory behaviour in the video, and I can tell I felt for her and got my heart broken watching the series. Thank you for this interview, I came looking for something about my favourite HDM character, feeling a bit devastated after episode 7, so it was a kind of relief after crying so much. What an amazing actress!
I love her and I think she's beautiful. I first saw her many years ago on Luther. Plus she's a fine actor. As an actor she has the amazing ability to change her mood in one take, with the camera shooting her enigmatic face all the while.
Mrs. Coulter was phenomenal to watch in the show, and easily the best character and best actress. All the changes and additions they made to her character from the books made her so much more compelling!!! Leaning into the fact that she is a brilliant woman who has had to learn how be successful in the male dominated world of the magisterium, making her manipulative and resentful. Contributing to that she was shamed for years for her affair with Asriel and having Lyra. The self-suppression and self denial we see in her abusing the poor golden monkey coming from the fact that her self control is what she thinks makes her strong in that world, since that's how she learned to cope. Her not being able to show her love for Lyra in a way that's not controlling since that's how she treats her own self. But that being the very trait that allowed her and Asriel to take down Metatron. I loved it, such a next level version of book Mrs Coulter and Ruth Wilson was an absolute powerhouse.
If I was ever in a position where I had to choose which one of my favorite actresses to live with. Well I'll definitely choose Ruth Wilson I would most definitely choose to live with Ruth Wilson.
Given that Mrs Coulter is my favourite villain ever since I can remember, I was very anxious about how Ruth would portray her. Don't get me wrong, I have been following her career since Jane Eyre and loved her in absolutely every single thing she did but damm, she had Nicole Kidman to beat (even though the movie kind of bombed). But boy, nothing, absolutely NOTHING prepared me to how much I'd love Wilson's Coulter. I'm completely outraged that she only got that single Cymru Bafta. She deserves every single award possible! Yes, the show is AMAZING by itself. It's so much more than I hoped it would be. And yet, with all due respect to the entire cast, Mrs. Coulter is the heart of it all, and it is a 100% Ruth Wilson's merit.
Mrs Coulter is by far my favourite character in the show. Ruth's performance is absolutely incredible throughout all three seasons, such a powerful and talented actress ❤❤❤
