it's the cams that make it move a certain way, basically its program. i dare say these are probably more reliable and built for the long term than the servos and motors and electronics used today, at least when it comes to more simple animations. the cam system goes back hundreds of years and still operate.
Would have been nice to see you opening the fortune scroll just to see what one looks like.
