You always have eyes. Phoenix have around 15-20 seconds burn time if I remember good. That means at least 15 seconds to see if it heads your general direction.

On one hand it made planes that rely entirely on SARH missiles like the F-4J/S less shit, but on the other hand ARH missiles are extremely annoying now.

If you have a decent RWR you can’t really complain plus it basically forces you to learn how to notch and crank which is vital for top tier.

And I'm opposite of this strategy.
Hovering close to middle on low alt with AV-8B+, and targeting random people with AIM-120. ARH treats me as ground clutter, and IR missiles are having a hard time with flares around Harrier and his heat signature.

Phoenixes are very easy to dodge, even low to the ground, you just need to keep in my that they exist. When you are more than halfway to the point of two teams meeting and you hear your RWR acting up, do a 90 degrees turn at full speed, popping chaff might help but it's optional, fly like this for 10 seconds or so, and then do a 180 degrees turn or 90 degrees followed by going cold for a few seconds and then another 90 degrees so the result is the same direction as that 180. You only need to do this once. And if you have suitable terrain you don't need to do this at all. Just go really low behind terrain to break radar lock when you would normally do the manouver I described.
The "just notch bro" mouthbreathers been real quiet since the update dropped(they never ever played a single match above 10.3 with their F-5C with a 0.2 K/D)

The solution is... Aware enemies. You can see these missile launches from like 40km+, and they burn for so long just banking to one side a bit will likely tell you whether a missile is for you or not. If the missile is for you, notch or go cold. The vast majority of kills I have with my Aim-54's are against unresponsive targets. Others are against people simply doing tight corkscrews hoping it works (It doesn't, never has, and never will). Against people who look like they actually know how to defend missiles, my Phoenixes rarely connect. Honestly, I feel this patch removed a crutch people have been using for a long time (Although 16v16 kinda ruins it. 10v10 is preferable)
I find S-weaving a couple times and then a wide corkscrew easily throws off the pheonix by draining its energy
this works when there is only one arh coming at you. in 16 v 16 you often find yourself in situations where you can notch and multi path and at best come out of it eating splash damage
@@huntersawyer9324 Nah. Not always. 16v16 can be a pain, but most situations are perfectly survivable if you see the missiles

phoenixes need a nerf right now they completly ignore terrain and force people to play as low as possible to avoid lock expetially with planes with shit rwr that don't have any kind of missile warning sistems
They dont, they need to be buffed with 25g and correct loft but putting them in a higher br : f14a 13.0 and f14b 13.3

I've only died to Phoenix 2 or 3 times because of my stupidity. I tried to end dogfights, lost energy and was promplty slapped out of the air since I couldn't turn away to notch or if I went to the deck I would go through the deck because how slow I was.
God I would love to have the f14 but I don't want to grind the naval tech tree (even thought I am on early jet era and from there is just goes easier)

@@ollilaine6763 IIRC the missile was not intended for engagement against fast-moving fighters, but rather the heavier attack platforms that the Soviets would have used for launching anti-ship munitions.
@@OGShively IRL phoenix's did not have smoke trails, they also performed fine against the fast moving iraqi fighters of the iraq iran war.

Yes they are strong but as long as you know you are facing them, you can easily defend against them early by using terrain. They are more annoying than they are overpowered.
except when you don't have terrain to play with, and when they decide to bug and track you through terrain anyway (that happens rarely but since the update it happens)
The maps you get at top tier are just open fields.
You know that trees don't count for the multipathing so sometimes it is impossible to go low enough and even if you do it has 54kg off tnt
