    Taking a loss is a hurdle but one of the best feelings when you take it. You end up realizing that you could've lost much more if you didn't take the loss early.

    My Mantra… win big and lose small. Cutting losers as soon as the ‘uh-oh’ connection from your heart (emotions) reaches your brain (reasoning) becomes automatically conditioned in your trading strategy as the number one priority stressful trading disappears. Don’t fight it. Make it become a habit that is your armor.

Discipline, Discipline, Discipline!!! Ignore this advice and you will give your money to the other market participants. Markets are efficient in that way.

  • @thetradeblade
    @thetradeblade Год назад

    👏👍Completely on point. I still struggle with it at times, but the more that is rules based and decided BEFORE the trade happens, the less emotionally involved you are in the trade. Levels, target and stop is a huge part of it. And if your target isn't more than your stop loss before the trade, ask yourself if its even a good opportunity (Spoiler: Its not).
    Whatever you do, please don't fall for the trap of lowering your stop loss as the trade falls, or even worse, trying to cost-average down. Catching a falling knife will blow your account. The worst of this is when you get REWARDED for this kind of bad trading by lucking out with a rally. You think you got out of it with a profit, but you actually just set yourself up to be a worse trader and face an even bigger loss down the line. Your stops should give your trade room to move, but they need to be fixed. Risk management is key.

    Nice lesson on importance of drawing out your plan (levels) but more importantly having the discipline to take action when those levels are breached. This also applies for entering positions. For example, going long $29 puts would have been nice Thursday morning after the failed breakout from 21 Mar high (left side of cup) and I think you mentioned you looked at puts but tape was too fast to make a trade. Does your platform provide a way to tie an option trade to underlying stock price, for example when BAC stock broke $29, open a long $29 put position?

    Thanks for the video. I learned to be a better loser once my account got down to under $2k. I was determined to never blow an account so I stopped doing dumb things like staying in trades that have gone against me hoping/thinking that price will come back, etc. It's funny how just about hitting rock bottom can light a fire under you! I have to say, though, that losing teaches me things I need to learn just like winning does but I don't ever want to lose a lot again.

I have done so much better without them but blow up accounts a lot because of it. I can't find a good balance. Almost calling it quits. I lost a lot. It's NOT a bold statement, it's a 100% TRUE statement. It is most definitely 90% psychology, you are your own worst enemy in trading.
    I have watched myself do something in trading AS I'm saying out loud, "Don't do it!" It's incomprehensible, it's like there's a stranger in your head. You CANNOT talk about the psychology of trading enough!
    Once you learn the technicals, once you have the strategy and the edge, once you have some experience and you know how to execute, psychology is THE obstacle to becoming profitable.
