This brought back so many memories. That 95/96 team is how I remember high school basketball. Being from Brampton they killed us in a tournament. Lol it was embarrassing for our boys. But watching those EC guy really was like watching the fab 5 regardless of what line was on. Sad that it had to close. They are the greatest ball program the city has ever had.
Playing in this gym in the 90s was likely a bigger home court advantage than any other school in North America. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t lose a home game in the 90s. The court was so old and tiny and their trap and pressure was so good. I actually had one of my best games ever there (as a visitor) and we lost by 50, but they were so talented that I still took it as a moral victory. Shout out to Mr. Perri who taught at Eastern and then North Toronto. The Eastern Team with Collin Charles and Jamaal Magloire was one of the best teams in Toronto high school basketball history. Loved watching them play.

I remember playing in 2004 OFSSA and being worried about facing Eastern Commerce... (luckily we didn't) but watched them play and it was a different level of athleticism
went there '78 - '81.... never missed a game..... so sad to see what happened to the school.... Thanks for doing this film :) ... it would have been cool if Mr Sialtsis got some of the players from the early days of the program
The only good thing about this school was the Basketball team. Nobody talks about how bad the education was, how we couldn't have a single thing because all the money went to the basketball team. The year they went to Tokyo, we didn't get a yearbook lol. But telling people you went to Eastern was like if you told people you went to a school of famous people. We loved it. It was wild! Oh and Mr. Lucas the VP was the only staff member in my opinion that truly cared about all of us, not just the basketball team.
