During late 1970s, several of the junior officers from USS Hollister (DD-788) rented an apartment on Ocean Blvd. We used Desmond bridge to commute to our ship which was home ported at the Long Beach Naval Station. PS - drove through area last Fall and it has changed beyond recognition except for the bridge that will soon be gone. No more LB naval shipyard and dry dock, the gigantic Herman the German yard crane moved to Panama, LBNS buildings are all gone, seaplane hanger is gone. Only Navy Mole, MSC and fuel piers plus sad remains of baseball fields / picnic area at the end of mole are present PS2 - Hard to believe the forest of container cranes and yards plus railroads in area!
Im gonna miss the 2 old bridge's
this is amazing

That’s actually pretty cool.
Surprised nobody stole that golden bolt.
After pulling out the golden bolt, did the old bridge collapse? :/
