- We love Fix Price for its affordable prices and practical home goods. Some might say it’s only cheap stuff. Yes, it is inexpensive, but that all sparks a creative flight of imagination. A budget item can easily be transformed into unique interior decorations.
Whenever I visit Fix Price, I look for things I can repurpose or I buy what I need for an idea. If you look at many items from a different perspective, they can serve unconventional purposes because, thanks to their shape, they are incredibly multifunctional and also look great.
Take, for example, flower pots. Often, they are perfect for storing kitchen utensils, or any dish rack can be adapted for storing lids vertically, and any hanging container can be used anywhere.
This time, I couldn’t pass by a regular plastic cosmetic container. I turned it around and it looked very much like a book. I’ve long wanted to create a box like that.
For the transformation, I didn’t need any special materials-cardboard and pretty pictures would make it unrecognizable.
First, I made the spine of the book. I bent the cardboard to create a slight bulge, like in a real book. I glued this piece with Moment glue. The spine slightly protrudes beyond the container’s edges.
I cut out cardboard for the cover. Essentially, there’s nothing more to do; I just needed to decorate, paint, and glue.
I printed vintage rose images on a color printer, cut them to the size of the book, wet the edges and tore pieces of paper from the edges to create a weathered effect.
First, I glued the spine. I cut strings from the fringe and glued them to the box.
I affixed the pictures to the cover on the front and bottom sides.
For aging, instant coffee works well. You need to wet the paper and sprinkle coffee on it; when the coffee dissolves in the water, it creates streaks, resulting in the paper taking on an old, worn appearance. I usually do it this way, but this time I didn’t have coffee on hand, so I used brown wax instead.
I painted the box with chalk paint.
I tied a satin ribbon to the handle.
This is how easily you can decorate your home with cute items made to your taste using products from Fix Price.
