This is the set that introduced me to hardcore music. I was 17 years old watching the Sensation Black 2004 livestream. I tuned in at the beginning, heard Marcel Woods playing some trance, it was dark, flashing lights, cool visuals. All is normal. Then I tuned in 8 hours later and I see these people still partying while the sun is out to this crazy music. I was like these people are absolutely nuts and I love it! I finally visited Europe for the first time this year to attend Syndicate 2023, 19 years later. I stayed for all 10 hours. It was everything I dreamed it could be.

@@stewartclark8760 Did an overnight flight from the US to Germany, landed in Dusseldorf at 8:30am local time the day before Syndicate. Picked up my rental car, drove around aimlessly for a bit. I booked a room at the Dorint an den Westfalenhallen Dortmund hotel across the street from Westfalenhallen (where Syndicate is held) but couldn't check in until 3pm. Checked out an Ikea and a German McDonalds. Eventually checked into my hotel and then went to sleep because I had been up for 30+ hours. Woke up around 10pm, only place within walking distance for food that was open was a kebab place called Kayser Grill. Ate a tasty gyro, and noticed people walking around drinking beer, then learned that it's totally normal to drink in public in Germany. Went into a liquor store and bought a big-ass bottle of beer for 1.40 euros, talked to a really drunk but friendly russian guy while I was at the store. Walked around outside drinking my beer, got some snacks at the gas station and went back to my hotel. Hung out for a bit, then went back to sleep and didn't wake up until 4pm the next day. Woke up, had a meal, hung out until 7:30pm and then walked over to Westfalenhallen. Line was short, got through the ticket and security check quickly and walked into the main part of the arena right when GridKiller was pressing play on his first track (opening DJ). I had slept so much beforehand I had no problem making it through the whole night. I bought a few cans of beer, a few bottles of water (europeans love bubbly water, they didn't have regular), and a few pretzels throughout the night. It all went by super fast, and was a pretty surreal experience for me (I had never left the United States before that). I was actually considering not showing up until later in the evening because at first I wasn't super interested in the first few DJs. Then I checked out GridKiller's music on youtube and wow, he makes some top tier tracks. Probably his favorite of mine is Wasteland, I listened to it in headphones a bunch of times while I was testing out the fancy earplugs I bought for the event. They just so happened to zoom in on me on the livestream during Wasteland while I was rocking out to it which was quite a coincidence; I clipped it and put it on my personal youtube channel. The video is called "me at Syndicate 2023 Gridkiller set livestream" if you search for it on youtube. After seeing pictures of the lines outside to get in, I'm glad I showed up early. Getting around in the country wasn't too much trouble. The Google Maps and Google Translate apps were my life lines. And memorizing how to say "sorry I don't speak German, can we speak English?" in German. I was in Europe for a week total. I spent another full day in Dortmund after Syndicate (to recover from the night before, and to check some stuff out). Then I drove over to the Netherlands and spent a few days there before driving back. Would definitely do it again. I'm thinking I might make it a yearly trip.

I honestly don't care much about hardcore, hardstyle, dnb and trance are my genres, but Promo basically defined the genre in this set. It's 14 years old and still the best hardcore set I ever heard. What an absolute legend.

Klopt. Maar nu terugkijkend was het wel een achterlijke dkike endset, Tegenwooridig gaan ze naar het end toe en soort blije vrolijke muziek draaien zodat niet elke volgesnovesn sjaak agressief naar buiten komt. Maar of het er beter van is geworden... Nah

Dit was zo een goede party!! Ook elke keer goosebumps bij het luisteren van de sets. Alles klopte die avond en gewoon tot 7 uur doorstampen.

Amen.💪🏼🫣🤗 hij krijgt inderdaad veelste weinig credits. Laten we eerlijk dit blijft een heerlijke set. Ik heb slechter meegemaakt op black en andere events zoals defqon. Dat b kunnen een aantal djs nog van leren zowel in de hardstyle en hardcore deze tracklist perfect uit gekozen. En niet pre recorded. Ben blij dat ik hem vaker heb live heb mogen meemaken.❤😊

Mijn 1e x sensation!! Er volgde uiteraard nog aantal jaartjes waar ik geen Black in de arena heb gemist. Eeuwig zonde dat er iemand heeft besloten dat het stopte. Was altijd knallen, topsfeertje en geen Wit!!! Thank god,:-) En de jaren dat ik heen ging was het ook altijd uitverkocht, Van mij mogen ze het weer terug halen, ik denk dat vele met mij daar zeker weer bij willen zijn.!!!
Soms levert een uurtje RUclips browsen toch weer een pareltje op. Heerlijke set dit!

To see who had the better sound it wasnt about holding hands it was blowing the fucking roof of the place. The real and best times of hardcore before the fall of Thunderdome. Not many people know this scene if anything this old as it is. Gotta take it back to 1996

He's also playing the closing set, so he's hammering it out. This set is hands down DJ Promo's best recorded set imo.

Ik was 21 en was erbij. Na 2004 ging het helaas bergafwaarts met hardstyle/core.

Het enige moment op die bewuste avond dat ik echt heb staan beuken, werd mij veel te soft gedraaid en toch blijven hangen voor promo. Hij snapt het , hij draaide perfect. Lekker anti commercieel, die oldschool bass pfff kippenvel.

Toch het blijft wonderbaarlijk, dat dj's van toen altijd een foutloze set draaide,op grote feesten met vinyl platen. terwijl als ik soms naar een feest ga vandaag de dag kunnen sommige dj's niet eens normaal beatmatchen en klinken sommige mixen voor geen meter :P
