Great review, thanks for going in detail of the unit. This was helpful.
I just got mdj-900 which are basically the same unit just without cd player.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad you did a video on it. Would love to see you come back to this & update on reliability. I'm looking to pick up a pair of these or the CDJ 700 for Serato DJ timecode.
+Jeff G For sure go with a pair of these. As for the reliability... its actually fairly good. It does crash every once and a while and it sometimes doesn't read a track right and freezes. So keep a back up system. (I'll do a video on that so subscribe for that) I use Algorithm's iPhone app, djay-2.
Hope this helps!

So it doesn't use any track analysis or database prep on a computer for thumb drives?
Have you tried letting tags be changed by DJ software like Traktor first?
Can BPM display be turned off?
How is the ID3 BPM Mode handled?
What is the pitch resolution at the various pitch ranges?
Is there a way to adjust pitch/tone independently of tempo?
Can pitch tone be changed away from zero and then locked?
How are multiple thumb drives handled across various units with network link?
+Reticuli
No computer prep
yes there are multiple screens
ok
no
no
1 for up to 4 players I believe. for more than 2 you need a box though to split the ethernet connection so you can link to all 4 players. but you can directly link 2 players
Hope this helps!

Gemini MDJ 1000 vs Pioner NEXUS 900 - which is better ?
+lcaise Pioneer CDJ-900Nexus
I have the Gemini cdj-700 and the BPM analyzer is so messed up to the point where i stopped using it with USB and will only use it with Traktor right now. I thought they were going to fix it with the MDJ-1000 but it looks like they haven't. I play mostly dubstep and hardstyle so basically 140 and 150 bpm and I have been playing dubstep for a long time so i know exactly what 140BPM is supposed to sound like and even the player says 140, its not really 140.
+Tyler Clemmensen They have made huge improvement to the bpm analyzer It doesn't always get it right but the great thing is it has a tap. Which makes it easy to correct the BPM
Just do it by ear. Like the good old days. It will male you a better dj
did you kniw that Gemini now released a preperation software for these players? Maybe if you put your tracks into the software he gets the bpm right. Sorry for my bad English. I'm Dutch
+Casper van Voorst I didn't know but I'll look in to it and review it. Ur English Is fine by the way
I don't know if there is a program for that yet, but Gemini is going to make a new device which will be compatible with a "Rekordbox-like"' software called "VCase".
Since the new device (called SDJ-2000) is announced to be linkable with MDJ-1000 I guess they will update these to make them compatible with VCase as well.
If they do so, I think it will really improve the way these players work !
+PIUR Didn't know that i will have to check it out.
+PIUR Gemini has been promising VCase since the GMX was released last year. Still doesn't seem to exist.
+MistahMatzah Yes but this time it has a logo, I guess it's one more step for it to be released ! lol
But I think their new controller will "need" VCase to run correctly (as the XDJ-RX kinda "needs" Rekordbox), so maybe they'll finally release it !
+PIUR Alas, if everything that "needed" to be true actually WERE true we'd live in a much better world. I'll believe it when there's a download link on Gemini's web site I guess.
V-Case is finally out and compatible with the MDJ-1000
thinking of getting this looking forward to the extended review
+LG20 if there are any questions let me know and I can answer them for you
+DJ Drawgz yes I would like to know how light the jog wheel can get, maybe some spin backs?
+LG20 yes you can do spin backs! And real good ones too. I do them all the time.
Reason why doesn't play some tunes from iTunes or mp4 or other files is because most likely this files are copyright protected. Second options is that this device doesn't have up to date software or is lucking desired file codec's. Sometimes you can come across same types of files with some of them will work others will not and this is down to the producers and owners of the track by applying intercepted protection.
Pace Out
Thanks for your in depth knowledge, I like the big screen and the basic functions and thanks 🙏 to help further my Desired descion to buy one ☝️
Its looks very professional, it got big jog wheel, like the use of midi and internet so much to learn still a out of my budget, got start saving, I might have to use finance and Gemini are great make, still deciding on what I need of which one to buy,
What was the first gripe, something about cd's..it wasn't clear in the video ??
Can you test the perfect-loops functions ?
I wanna see if they are as accurate as the Pioneer CDJ ones. Coz' i actually have CDJ700 since 3 years now and they start to tire a bit.
They have useless effects that only take place on the player...and its very hard to do perfect loops...honestly i dont use the loop function anymore, i have a korg kp3 to do this...
and now I'm very interested about buying a pair of MDJ1000, the bigger screen is pretty beautiful, there is one more cue point, a filter, and the loops, the link !!!
So can you make a live-review of the filter and the loops ? It would be awesome m8 ! And sorry for my english i'm french :/
+Ray Freeman I will include it either the update tutorial or make a video just for that!
lexxusss nothing is never gonna work as a pioneer. I have the cdj700 amd it's not a pioneer. Pioneer will never give out but the are a minimum 600 each
lexxusss do not base The pioneer xdj with this unit. This unit is very good but dont compare your buy against it. It glitches. Loops start stop. And sometimes dont. Pioneer never does but pioneer is 600 and I'm picking up one used for 175 dollars. Or 299 new
I get the impression that gemini are making pioneer replicas with very cheap components ,it sounds very cheap when pressing buttons, twisting knobs etc
Nice :-) Thank You :-)
+Patrick Löber Welcome. If you have any questions just ask.
Looking at buying 2 of these but people keep bringing up software issues with these. Are these issues really devastating when tryign to play or have they been resolved by software updates? not gonna have the money to buy cdj 850's and not really keen on buying a cdj that doesnt show any wave form information. cheers
+Harry Young they ok. But they work perfectly when hooked up to a software. If I was doing it again if save my money and get some used Cdj-900nxs they are just a toned down Cdj-2000nxs. They have search, colored waveforms, but most of all the ability to use reckordbox.
+Harry Young like and subscribe
+Harry Young by the way check out my new review on the player
+DJ Drawgz +DJ Drawgz what do u mean hooked up to a software? I guess what I'm asking is are these players reliable and durable? Yes the nexus is obviously better but being a student I won't be able to ever justify spending £900+ on a single player. For someone to use at home and potentially the occasional house party is this player good? Or will I find that it's glitchy to the point where playing is seriously impeded
First check out my follow up review here:
ruclips.net/video/6I8dLlmuxqQ/видео.html
they work perfect connected to a software like virtual dj. but if you don't want to use a software get the 850s The build quality is great especially because you said your going to use its mostly for home use
like and subscribe
I doubt between the MDJ-1000 and the Pioneer XDJ RX, Which would you choose ?
+RrS070 Pioneer XDJ-rx
+DJ Drawgz Are they that shitty?
no but pioneer stuff is a higher grade audio
@ DJ Drewgz how do you use the Mdj 1000 with serato dj without using timecode cd because it seems to me the only way is with timecode cd ?
I would recommend using them with Virtual Dj because it pairs immediately with them
DJ DrawgZ can i use this cdj withouth any programs?
Considering this review is a little old, have they fixed the software?
Yes, mostly error was fixed whit this update. wetransfer.com/downloads/550ae14cb530f00dfa3eb04918b00c1120180727182232/2e5b9108bab789e67f7ca14f76bbafe220180727182232/d97701?WT_email_tracking&
Try using rekordbox (it's free)... Rekordbox will analyze all of your tracks so the waveforms in the track will load instantly and BPM will show correctly... I know pioneer support rekordbox but would be interesting to know whether this product does as I'm thinking of buying a set of these myself
+Ashley Harvey I thought about doing that my self. If it works that would be great because it has a digital out which might be able to send the beat grid and things to my pioneer mixer. I'll try it and let you know.
+DJ Drawgz Its interesting me too
Patrick Löber and +Ashley Harvey would you like me to make a video review for this
Yes!:)
+Ashley Harvey Rekordbox is only compatible with Pioneer players...
Hi mate,
I have the cdj-100s and im tired of them.
What new pair should i buy?
I have pretty low budget tho.
if you want to stay similar get cdj-350s or xdj-700
if you don't want pioneer get mdj-1000s
DJ DrawgZ
well in israel everything is costs 100 times adobe the avarge
thanks anyway :(
Such a shame Gemini messed up big time with these decks. The potential was there to be a real winner. I was a user of the previous model CDJ-700 which were used every week gigging for almost 2 years. Apart from the odd crash and reboot (but then I've had to do the same with Pioneers too!) the players were great. Hey but please don't try and compare Gemini decks that cost a few hundred to the Pioneers that cost thousands! You get what you pay for, and for general home/mobile use they do the job...cheaply. Just a shame that these MDJ-1000 never worked properly out the box from day 1. Shame on you Gemini. I guess you've lost a lot of loyal Gemini supporters.
They lost me. and it is like comparing apples to oranges, really the only similarity between pioneer and Gemini is there both players.
Thanks for the comment,

is it good enough to scratch and beat juggle?
when u go to mix on them does it jump when your trying to mix into a song cause the 7000s do
+cory parrotte no
MIxed in key homie. Will solve that bpm issue
+The Temple of Xin true, but it doesn't solve everything
Wait a minute...if it can't read the BPM correctly it's basically useless. That's a huge deal breaker.
Jacob/Kate SJST. Haha that's what I was going to say lol. None of these new age digital djs could mix on a pair of technics let alone belt drives to save their lives. It's an original art form that doesn't have enough appreciation these days.
D2daK87 absolutely true!
I purchased my first pair of 1200s in 1993, sold all my stuff in 2008... I NEVER USED beat matching tech. Ears only!
Danke :)
+Patrick Löber thxs
Hi Guy, I'm testing the mdj1000 and having 3 big problems:-The bpm is not allways right detected, even with vcase soft.-The auto loop function is totally wrong and for me completly unuseful in live because it makes jumps and little crashes.-Sometimes the songs jumps during the playback breaking everythingDo you have the same problems?
the exact question as I have. even on mine I have exactly the same Issue. random skips and glitches. sometimes the USB Host Would even Crash on some USB Sticks. been communicating with GEMINI even sent them videos as they Requested here is one link: 1drv.ms/v/s!Ai6D_YiMA6uMihCyru6aGwo-LhUA: but they never came with any solution. instead they told me that THEY CAN NOT GET THE DECKS TO GENERATE THE SAME PROBLEM.
I do not know how was that going to help me and these are only two months old.
It's what I was afraid: the mine is not the only one. I've emailed to Gemini too, and they promised me to work on it. But I don´t trust, more than over after a recent firmware update. Fortunately I'm on time to get the money-back. It's a pity because the model is what I like, but... for me this fails are unacceptable. For sure it's a software problem and I hope they get the right fix. It's a good job but not finished yet.
+Thembelani Dumo you are so lucky. I'm now communicating with the retail store I bought it from. to see what they can do.
+carlos hernandez yes. I do. I hoping they will fix these problems because if they did the unit would be so much better
+carlos hernandez yes. I hope they fix the problems to cuz if they do the unit would be so much better.
Does this work with rekordbox for the cues/tempo/beatgrid
+Toby Silver Games no
DJ DrawgZ what software does this work with if not rekord box?
what do you prefer: pioneer xdj rx or gemini mdj 1000 and pioneer djm?
+Severman7000 depends on your budget and style of music your playing. But I would go with the Gemini MDJ-1000 and the Pioneer DJM.
+DJ Drawgz do you have problems with the mdj? because a lot of had problems with the gemini cdj 700 for example... so does the new mdj also have issues?
Never buy Gemini save your money rather buy Denon if you can not afford Pioneer Gear. you will regret.
***** i bought the pioneer xdj-rx :D
Easy enough
+ken Fallo i guess
All VCase seems to do is pre-analyze BPMs and allow the creation of play lists. The beat grids aren't even accurate much of the time and you can't adjust them with VCase. We're a long way from Rekordbox or even Engine. The loading and track analysis on the units is frigg'n slow and with its inaccuracy, I'd like to just turn all this automated and visual shit off on these things. Occasionally, that seems to happen on its own, which improves things slightly. It's hard to even see whole file names because of the split screen and the fact that once a track is loaded, all it shows at the tops is the tags, not the filename even if you cycle between all options. Linking with a switch is also slow and unpredictable in how it changes between drives pressing buttons over and over. You can't just see every drive on every deck. Don't know why Gemini did it like this. I've had a few freezes and I can't get through a single set without tracks glitching up enough to ruin my blends. Most tracks do a few split second skips just off a flash drive. Weird high frequency ticks when hitting play. Nothing about this firmware is refined or with fit & finish. Hopefully this is just bad firmware (already the latest installed) and not shit hardware. Mine are unlikely to be defective because I have three units from two different sources. If Gemini doesn't resolve these problems in a version or two of the firmware, I'm unloading them.
Reticuli agreed
It appears VCase may be adding keys during analysis. I do not remember seeing this information on the MDJ-1000 and it's possible they may already be in the tags of my tracks. But I'm currently analyzing over 50,000 tracks (very slow process, will take 2 days total it appears... might be an entire un-split album or two in there after FLAC conversions to AIFF with a few bad cue files), and I'm seeing keys listed. Not sure if it's reading pre-existing tags or adding them. I'm glad to hear from you that the BPM detection in VCase is better. I am also curious where the library info is being stored, because I had previously analyzed a small thumb drive and when I opened up VCase without the thumb drive connected to the computer, the library of tracks was still there with a bunch of red question marks.
firmware 6.1.17mk2 from Gemini resolved it on my decks send me a mail with subject firmware then I will gladly forward you the firmware.

Man I didn't even think it was possible but Gemini has REALLY gone downhill. Such low quality... shame. The Pio CDJ needs a true competitor aside from Denon but this thing is just too far down the deep end of shitty. My first decks were Gemini MPX30s and those were glitchy as ever, and I see some things just don't change... My advice- sell those pieces of shit and buy a pair of used Numark V7s for almost the same price
so true
Also, your other review video is "private", please make it public
It will be a week before it can go public, Im having issues with the video
Ah, alright.
I want to buy 3 MDJ-1000, people don't recommend me doing so. What do you think? Should I go ahead and buy 3 of those? Because some people is saying they are ok, some not...
Are u a able to type to search
How do you like these after a few months?
+The Temple of Xin They are okay. Not sure if I would buy them again thou.
mix that cd slot hard
