Great Blasket Island by Helene Brennan

Welcome to my slide show of photos taken on Great Blasket Island. You can see images of views from the Island, including the mainland and other Islands of the Blasket group, heathery scenes from the walk around the Island and in particular there are many images of the ruins of houses that were once the homes of a thriving community, that had to finally vacate the Island in 1953. These photos were all taken before the Office of Public Works did some reconstruction and new construction on the Island, so I consider my photos to be authentic records. Please sit back and enjoy these photos of this very beautiful Island, which has produced several notable writers who documented the life and culture on the Island, in the Irish language.
