It's really sad that Air India as retired all its B747s.

I was one of those fortunate to travel by an Air India B747 nicknamed 'Emperor Shivaji' for a short flight from then Bombay's Sahar Intl. Airport to Delhi in 1992 though the ultimate destination of this flight was NYC.Sad to know that these magnificent jets cannot be seen again
I went to shivaji airport today for a flight and I did see a 747 type plane, that didn't seem to be in operation

There are many airlines who have preserved atleast one of their historic aircraft like their 707s or 747s. Why cant Air India do the same? Are they that cheap? Im sure if people donate $1 there would be enough added up to buy the aircraft for a museum. They did that for the Delta 767. it was purchased by their employees to be preserved at the Delta museum!

Is it fully retired or just withdrawn from passenger service? Because i'm certain i've spotted at least one parked in an active area in Mumbai within the last month. Maybe it still fulfills its role as the official transport for the head of government.
