Lara Fabian is very difficult to judge. When she sings it is not her voice or her singing technique that counts. Lara Fabian has created a category that is called Lara Fabian. There is no one there. There is only Lara Fabian Lara's ability to place her songs, emotions right into your heart and soul, even when you do not understand the lyrics... kind of magic. This woman is a gift of heaven
Absolutely agree! Lara Fabian is in a league of her own. Her ability to connect on such a deep emotional level, even when you don’t understand the lyrics, is pure magic. She’s truly a gift to all of us. ✨❤
“Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and composed the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during his own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone. Lara also had made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. Serge and Lara became good friends and performed several other duets later on. The 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) ruclips.net/video/eHSyk4SGtuY/видео.html is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries. The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella. Lara is used to perform the song very differently in each of her tour and for instance the En Toute Intimité, 2003, Paris Olympia version is even more dramatic ruclips.net/video/SyILdRAOS88/видео.html
Eric, I’m absolutely blown away by the history you’ve shared about Je Suis Malade. It’s incredible how a song that was written in just hours carries such deep emotional weight, and knowing about Serge Lama’s and Dalida’s connection to the song really enhances its meaning. Lara’s version is indeed legendary, and your knowledge always elevates the experience. Thank you again for all the insight you bring to these discussions! 😊🙏🏾
Linda reacción! Saludos desde Costa Rica! Hermosas obras maestras impresionantes de Lara Fabián , la mejor cantante e intérprete del mundo entero, la voz de cristal más bella y perfecta que existe, única y sin comparación alguna! Gracias!
So strong and so fragil at the same time . This is Lara doing Lara things. Bringing emotions to all her listeners. She is masterclass and beyond. My number one of female singers of all time. Thank you for a great reaction. Cheers from a finn in Sweden.❤🎉
Thank you so much! 🙏 I completely agree-Lara is masterclass, and she has such an incredible way of balancing strength and vulnerability. Truly one of the greatest! Warm regards from the UK! 🇬🇧🎶
The music of Broken Vow was co-composed by Walter Afanassiev and Lara Fabian. Walter Afanassiev, an american/brazilian from russian descent, is a legendary composer and producer. He co-composed some of the greatest initial hits of Mariah Carey such as All I Want for Christmas is You or Hero. And he was the producer of the Titanic soundtrack that increased Celine Dion WW fame. He also had produced a song for Dimash among others. When this song was composed, Walter and Lara were engaged, they were living in San Francisco’s bay area, but apparently he cheated and she decided to break up. When she took this decision, that she knew would dramatically change both her personal and professional destiny, she wrote these incredible lyrics. Lara has said this is her preferred english song from all the songs she wrote in this language (there are many, and some are pure jewels). One reason is also because this song has then been covered by the greatests: - Barbra Streisand (she performed it in concerts from one of her tour but never recorded it), - Josh Groban (his cover made this song famous in US, she is her friend and role model and he made several duets with her), - Linda Eder, - Cakra Khan, - Gigi de Lana, - Regine Velasquez, - Almira (from 4th Impact), - Katrina Velarde, - Julie Anne San Jose, - Sarah Geronimo, - Morissette Amon, - Petra Berger, - Harrison Craig, - Rimar, - Jackie Evancho, - … For Jackie Evancho, and at the request of Jackie's parents who found the original lyrics were not a good fit for a young girl, Lara rewrote Broken Vow in french as "Imaginer" with a complete different meaning. But the original from Lara remains the absolute reference ruclips.net/video/kJBGCI8aSE4/видео.html
Hey Eric, thank you so much for sharing such a detailed backstory behind Broken Vow. It’s clear you have such a deep understanding and appreciation for Lara’s work, and I’m honoured to have had you as part of the live reaction. Knowing the personal history between Lara and Walter Afanassiev truly adds a whole new layer of meaning to the song. It’s fascinating how many legendary artists have covered this piece, but as you said, Lara’s original remains the definitive version. Your insight is always invaluable! 😀🙏🏾
@@voicesavvy one of the reasons why so many filipinos covered this song is because the song was used in the soundtrack of a taiwanese tv series that appeared to be extremely popular in the Philippines. It attracted all singers there to cover it. The same happened for Lara in Brazil with her song Love by Grace which was used in the soundtrzck of a local very pooular tv series. The song topped the brazilian charts for weeks and has been since then a recurrent in all brazilian singer contests and has been covered by many artists there, latest one being Gabriel Henrique. Lara is a star there since then and a couple of her other songs used in soundtracks there reached again the top 10 in the brazilian charts. Not talikng about the fact she was selected by John Williams himself to sing a song ("For Always") for Spielberg’s movie « A.I. ».
Thank you so much for tuning in! 🙏 It’s always a pleasure to return to Queen Lara’s incredible performances-she truly is something special! 😊I will always return she never ceases to amaze me with her performances! ✨❤

First of all.. "your accent is so beautiful"... Or rather I say, "Soul Beautiful".. 😉 I love your reactions, your Enthusiasm and your ability to "FEEL" music deeply... He had to be a blind man with no ability to "feel" at all.. I pray she's truly happy now because this completely broke my heart into pieces... I'm not ashamed to say I was crying like I baby.. but I couldn't stop listening.. As always she grabs my heart and soul and holds it the whole way through... That's a gift.. a rare, humble and divine gift.. Love her so much.. Thank you love.. ❤🙏
Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊🙏🏾 I totally agree, Lara’s voice and the way she connects with emotions is beyond incredible. And I’m with you-who could ever cheat on someone like her?! She opened a part of my heart that was sleeping in my chest. Each of their songs moves me and tears roll down my cheeks. I love you and your beautiful voice. ❤❤😢
Those of us who have admired Lara for a long time know that her voice is one of the best female voices. And I also love her body language. In the second song, "Je suis malade (I'm sick)", just at the moment when she sings "comme un oiseau mort (like a dead bird)" she crosses her thumb by her neck, wow! ..., and immediately afterwards leans her upper body toward forward repeatedly while singing in French "Je suis malade (I'm sick)". These two moments are so special in this song, I mean in terms of her great expressiveness. Otherwise, I think that sometimes the silences are almost as important as the song itself and she handles them perfectly. Amazing performance to say the least. Thank you Collena once again for hanging out with us and conveing your knowledge while introducing us to great artists ✌️👋
Nina, thank you for this informative reaction to Queen Regine honouring her inspiration, Barbra. You should also react to what I think is the definitive version of this song by Lara Fabian. Lara sings a medly of "Papa can you hear me", and "A piece of sky". Barbra herself never sang these very difficult songs back to back. Lara in broadway mode is spectacular!
