I certainly agree Sugar Gliders are not for everyone. They are not cheap to raise , have specific requirements to live healthy and can give a painful bite. They are not hamsters, gerbils or squirrels and I'm afraid many get adopted on that thought then a few days later their new owners find out they have Sugar Gliders and all that goes with them. They can for the right persons be very enjoyable pets. They are nocturnal but awake anytime to nibble , drink or run a few miles in a wheel. They need a large cage with specific items. I advise anyone interested to learn all possible, visit someone that has them. Then if you are planning to adopt , it's best to do so where you can spend time and hold your prospective pets. All Gliders I believe can be bonded with and bless those that adopt older or hard to handle Gliders. Some aren't as scared , don't bite or often and it's easier to enjoy them when you can let them out. They will enjoy you as much. I had a female that wanted to be fed , watered and left alone. It took time but in time she slept beside me only returning to her cage which I left open to sleep during the day. I welcome anyone interested in knowing more to reply to this with questions.
Had a sugar glider. His name was Wilbur. He was white but he always looked yellow. He loved yogurt bites and his fruits in his food, he'd leave out the apricots though, he hated apricots. He wouldn't touch em. He lived in a little toy tree with a blankie in it so he wouldn't get cold. He'd wake me up in the middle of the night running on his wheel. We tried to get him a friend, Nova, but she died the night we brought her home. She's buried in a hand painted coffin in my back yard under a heart shaped patch of stones. We had to rehome Wilbur about a year into having him, because he stopped eating as much and moving around as much so we gave him to a home with a whole room dedicated to sugar gliders so he'd have all the enrichment he needed. I haven't heard from my yogie boy since.
You did the right thing. Sugar gliders are incredible social creatures. Being alone as a glider is pure torture. I’m sure Wilbur is thriving with his new found social community
@@Suguhbabies I know that now, but I didn't back then. Other than being alone I did everything right for him. Nova was given to us sick, the breeder didn't even mention it. The heartbreak of holding her in my hands that morning was unlike anything else
You have brought tears to .my eyes. I'm sorry you lost the companion to Wilber. I've keep Gliders almost 20 years and currently have 13. I don't sell but have offered to give a pair to anyone I meet that's seriously interested in raising them. They do much better when they have a cage mate. If they have and lose a mate and a mate can be the same sex , they really become stressed. It's tough for people that aren't retired like me to enjoy them as much as I do. I hope Wilber is well and happy. I have done the same sadly with the Gliders I have lost. It happens. I planted a Jap. Maple and have those I've lost underneath. Thanks for sharing your story.

Sugar Gliders are pretty expensive to buy. They need special foods and vitamins. They need large cages at least 24" wide. 24" deep and 36" high. They need ropes, ladders, enclosed running wheels. Alot of exercise equipment. They need pouches to sleep in. Most important you have to find a vet that specializes in or has experience taking care of them. It is hard to diagnose what is wrong with them. They are social animals and need attention. It is best to get 2 if you cannot spend time with them. Also, if you are going away you have to have someone they are familiar with to take care of them. And someone who knows how to take care of them. Alot is involved with having them as pets. Do alot of research before purchasing one. They are adorable but are expensive to care for and time consuming.

You showed a few bush babies in video which are NOT sugargliders. People have no idea how much work it requires to care for these beautiful marsupials. You also showed a small cage at the end that is WAY TO SMALL for sugargliders. I adipted a colony of 4 and 3 lived to 12 and one i still have is 13 yrs now. It is HUGE commitment and terribly expensive. Most people dont deserve the privilege of caring for a sugar glider. Sugargliders should live a long time , some live to 15 yrs old. If you cant afford it ask your vet to recommend a rescue they trust. Dont do nothing and let them die.!!!! That is animal cruelty!!!
It's like the people who get capuchins or marmosets without knowing just how much work they are. Incredible wonderful smart creatures. They deserve so much more than just being in a container forever. They need space to run, swing, play, and grow. They need lots of one on one attention. It's just a lot. People think just because they have the money to buy one means they're actually prepared to keep one and it usually ends poorly.

Thats why they were mean. It's a catch 22 situation. You have to handle them a ton. Otherwise they won't let you at all. But they need that handling. It's bad for them to just hang out in a container nonstop. They crave the connection. That's sad they had so many and it was such a negative experience. I'd venture to guess they also didn't have adequate space for that many of them. Because 12 would need such a huge enclosure.. it wouldn't be feasible in a home

I admit that Sugar Gliders are not for everyone, but I had 2 at one time. One I got from a friend. She was already 2 when I got her and she lived another 12 years under my care. Her name was Jasmine. I got another from a local zoo that my daughter worked for. They had 80 sugar gliders and were okay with letting me have one since I already had experience with them. They are social creatures and need a lot of attention if you only have one, and do better with a friend, so long as they get along so be careful with that. However, I never thought they were difficult to take care of. Not too much protein in their diet, and mostly fruits and veggies will do just fine if you put a supplement powder on their food to help with the correct vitamins. Get a pouch and take them on outings. My son would put Jasmine in his hoodie at movie theaters and feed her popcorn. LOL Interact with them a lot or they get pissy and bite. LOL You'll get used to their bite after awhile. They are nocturnal so they will be really active at night while you sleep. A wheel is cool, but it makes a ton of squeaky noise. They go crazy on it and never stop. LOL I carried Jasmine around in a Royal Crown pouch. She loved it.
Not all those pictures were sugar gliders. Bush babies have large ears and big eyes and may be adorable but they are nowhere close to being a sugar glider.
I learned that if a website, or any page on the internet has "opedia" in the name, then they're not reputable. This video for instance, stated that you need a cage that is 4ft high, and twice as long. Then it said it needs to be 24"x24"x36"

I can't make it 1 minute in with being confused... Why did they say the enclosure needs to be 4' tall, but put it in inches... Then say it needs to be 2x as wide, yet puts what would be half, also in inches... Like i feel crazy.
There are folks out there that love a challenge, i bought 1 male & 2 females that both later had twins, lots of crabing from moms whilts i clean there monster size cage big enough to spread there wings whilst i stand inside & i am 6ft +

As an owner of sugar gliders these are 0 reasons to not get one . These are basic expectations. Instead of dog food you buy fruits / specialized foods n worms, A pair of gliders is 550 . A pair of gliders with a start up kit is 750. , space for a cage is true def have space for a cage but the cage is not expensive with Bezos around. They are nocturnal and need a lot of time bonding so have time for them is the only reason not to get them. If you do not have some time for your babies than do not have them
I have rehomed sugar gliders for years. I personally don't think these animal should EVER be allowed to be a pet. This is deceiving information. They are not toys!!!! They are very difficult and expensive to have.!!!!!!

They shouldn’t be locked up in cages. They're not pets; they're wild animals. They should always be able to climb trees, to fly when they want to. They should also live in a group of at least 7 other sugar gliders; they normally live in a space that's half a hectare in size! A cage will never ever fit that criteria. Get yourself a pet rat if you want a pet, not a wild animal. „But they’re soo cute 🥺👉🏻👈🏻“ is not a reason to torture an animal!
How bout you live your life how you like and let other people do the same? You don't want to own pets? That's fine. But don't try to tell others they shouldn't do the same.
1.do my research 2.must not leave it alone for long 3. Can be expensive 4.i must know what I’m doing 5. Make sure to give it company 6.is worth a lot of money Check check check and check I think i understand thanks
Sorry I don't get this. Where does the idea of having a Sugar Glider even arise? The narrator certainly does not sound like an Australian. Sugar Gliders are marsupials, so are totally different from rodents or all other small eutherian mammals. Sugar Gliders are native to the eucalypt forests of eastern Australia. They are nocturnal. This video is very deficient in not mentioning these facts. Also, the animal shown at 1:41 is most certainly NOT a Sugar Glider. Not even remotely similar, other than being a small mammal. It looks to me like a bushbaby or one of the small primates like that. That is really sloppy........
This Sugar Glider is soo adorable and i thought Kangaroos is the only animal i know that has a baby pouch, i saw this one youtube video where there's amommy Sugar Glider that has a baby in its brlly and its soo cute ❤ your videos are very informative ❤
I am really upset as an Aussie seeing this! Its illegal to have a sugar glider as a pet in Australia... The fact that other countries can export them for exotic pets shows that smuggling Aussie endangered animals is booming and I'm upset about it!
How did smuggling come into the picture. There can be breeders and there are buyers of course. Both are not in Australia. We need to encourage breeding skills for animals that are closely related to endangered species. There's a wild horse called Przewalski' horse. Horse breeders would be able to reestablish wild horse populations.
If they are endangered then why are they so easily available? I live in a state that's pretty strict on animals you can have (can't have most exotics) and other states in the US you can literally own wild cats and primates without permits, so tell me why in my strict ass state you can get a sugar glider at like any pet store??
@@alexisg1028 basically they were illegally exported for awhile. It's now very tightly regulated, but we have stable breeding populations in the EU and US. Unfortunately how it came about was not handled well. I have mixed feelings about this as exporting animals can devastate wold populations. But now that they are being bred in captivity worldwide it's a security net for the species.
I have had sugar gliders for 8 years now I own around 8 and never had any issues. My gliders lay right on my dog as well. Eat regular diets you can get from any local supermarket 😂 Please don’t listen to this video I think taking care of a Guinea pig is more work then these

I'm pretty sure that's a bot doing the voice over
But, we always give human voice! Please, don't claim us as our whole team is really putting so much effort from script writing to publishing!
I learned that if a website, or any page on the internet has "opedia" in the name, then they're not reputable. This video for instance, stated that you need a cage that is 4ft high, and twice as long. Then it said it needs to be 24"x24"x36"
From Team PETOPEDIA, We appreciate your thoughts, also respect your perspective regarding our channel name.
And our reply is, in the world full of negativity, let's spread love, kindness and positivity through the window of the internet! 🧡❤🌹✨
LMAO you would say that. How about being honest and saying that you have no idea what you're talking about, and stop spreading lies through the window of the internet.
They don't need a cage. They don't need us to pet them. They need freedom in they proper habitats,
@@sergiorocha9197 that depends on the person. As long as they're not being abused, then I see nothing wrong with taking one in and caring for it.
I was terrified when the one jumped on the cats face
LOL @ that clip of the glider latching onto the cats face like Aliens.
The only thing I know about sugar gliders is that you can't take one into the Delta Skyclub.
Ha ha, that's true! May be, those little gliders are too high-flying for the Delta Skyclub!
*** 1:40 that’s NOT a sugar glider. That’s a bush baby, a primate and you show them repeatedly. What else are you wrong about?
Thanks for pointing it out and help us to make Petopedia better!

Me watching this video after getting a sugar glider to learn more about it
How can they develop their gliding muscles if they're in such a small cage?
They need more space to spread their wings and build those gliding muscles! 🦜✨

The real 'Yoda' on earth
Yes, indeed.

I really want to buy a pair of sugar glider but i don't know what happened when they leave me😢 after that my parents will never buy pet's in home😔😪
How are you going to have a video talking about "reasons not to get a glider" yet show multiple clips of Bushbabies, which are not sugar gliders?
Thanks for your observation.

I had 4 of them. They were awesome.

@@leolordful na you are.
@leewilson5389 unfortunately for you it's impossible to prove a negative. Thankfully their are millions of happy pet owners and pets to act as proof for my argument. Get bent.

It's "PETO-PEDIA"' - shares content about pets!
Ha ha, we're helpless in front of their cuteness!
So 99.99% of us should never get them as pets. Got it
Not like that! If you're ready to take these cons as a challenge, you're good to go for the sugar glider as your next pet!
I have rehomed sugar gliders for years. I personally don't think these animal should EVER be allowed to be a pet. This is deceiving information. They are not toys!!!! They are very difficult and expensive to have.!!!!!!
Totally get your concern. We're all about responsible pet ownership on Petopedia. It's crucial to highlight the challenges and costs involved with sugar gliders. 🐾✨

You're welcome!
a friend of mine is getting a sugar glider today and im really worried if the little guy is going to get taken care of well. i dont have a lot of faith in the guy. i really hope he did at least do a lot of research. im worried how the lil guy is going to be taken care of well when my friend works full time. he is more my boyfriends friend and i dont feel like i can confront him. i am just blackpilled as i have seen so many people who are terrible pet owners. this isnt like taking care of a cat. i wish there was some way i could approach him and give advice. anyone know of any youtube channels that focus on carng for sugar gliders. maybe i could try and suggest it to him. i am already worried about the sugar glider and i am powerless to interfere.

youre not powerless just tell him
They shouldn’t be locked up in cages.
Thanks for spreading some positive vibe here! We appreciate your sweet gesture!
Down vote. Some weren't even sugar gliders. Click bait
They're different breeds of sugar glider!
I am getting a sugar glider anyway
I think I am content watching other people's sugar gliders on RUclips.
Yes, most of them are kept as house pet!

Wondering who they survived in the wild all those years 😂
Just let them be wild animals...
How bout you live your life how you like and let other people do the same? You don't want to own pets? That's fine. But don't try to tell others they shouldn't do the same.
But people are crazy about Sugar glider to get as pet!
1.do my research
2.must not leave it alone for long
3. Can be expensive
4.i must know what I’m doing
5. Make sure to give it company
6.is worth a lot of money

Because of this video, I definitely want one now!!
I guess I’ll go with a salt glider then
If I have two. Can i leave them and work a normal 8 hour Shift?

Ferrets are disgusting.

Don't be upset! You can still send love for this adorable flying cuties!
@alexisg1028 I live in a state where you can own wild cats and primates without permits. Its wild. But you can't have primates in most states.
@1:40 That is NOT a sugar glider.
Thanks for pointing this out! We'll be more careful!

Its just a flying rat, you're too much sensationalism in this. Get the rat, feed it, and play with it until it dies. Now more importantly isn't there something else you should be concerned about?

It's disgraceful that Americans can keep an Australian protected species as pets. It's like Aussies keeping Bald Eagles in a cage.
Yeah if we had bald eagle breeders in Australia we wouldn’t care
