    Never had a lesson or a coach before, but the other day I told myself "hit it with your right shoulder" after working on my side bend and getting the feeling of it. Uncanny. I subbed because you emphasized "every little bit helps", not trying to be perfect, but trending up. Peace.

    Hit it with your shoulders…
    Used this today as main swing thought, not one fat shot! It feels a bit awkward but takes care of ball-first contact, for me it’s theeee most important requirement to hit ball first, thank you Jonathon, you are an intelligent coach, well done, I wish you every success 👍

    Great lesson. This is something I work on consistently. It has really helped me compress the ball much better. Where I struggle is in moving to the driver with this move. A follow up to this video would be beneficial to many. Keep up the great work.

    At 5:48, what you describe is what I am experiencing. As I try to get lower in the downswing and get my right shoulder down, it feels so awkward and weak. I’m so used to my handsy swing that it just FEELS so un-athletic when I get dropped down like that and am trying to use my body rotation to swing. Maybe I’m just too focused on wanting immediate results and I just need to stick with it and get used to it…

    If you have injuries the upright finish can work if you use a very narrow stance with with relaxed grip pressure, arms and shoulders. I call it the old man swing. But it is very accurate and creates sufficient distance.

    I have a similar feel where I hit the ball with right shoulder above ball. It’s all based on a Jim Flick 4 step drill and explained by Malaskar on RUclips. There’s no conscious bending of the right arm at impact.

    I think it is really important to point out that your left hip has to stay down on the downswing. I fell into the trap on trying to create right side bend but was also raising my left hip which meant I didn’t stay centred. There may be a better way to describe this but the extra right side bend needs to be matched up in the down swing. Another great video and always enjoy watching your tutorials. 👍🏻

    I would only add that if one's weight is on the left at impact AND the right should/torso-turn is "hitting the ball" then one's foundation from feet-to-body-to arms-to grip/shaft/clubhead IS solid thue the potential for the opposing force ("equal and opposite reaction" in the laws of physics) of the golfball being hit is reduced. One MUST be delivering the clubhead force starting with the feet/legs foundation so that nothing from the feet/ankles, knees especially the left, hips, torso/shoulders, arms/grip - recoils from the impact.

    I recently stumbled across your channel and have enjoyed some of your lessons . I watched the lesson about setup where you compared Sam Snead setup to the modern athletic setup and it did wonders for my game. This video though seems to contradict what you taught in the Sam Snead video because it looks like you’re promoting bending more from the waist at impact. Meaning, in the Snead video you promoted more on an upright posture and in this video you’re promoting getting the right shoulder down at impact and that to me seems contradicting.
    The purpose of the Snead video was that the athletic modern swing (arms further out, bent over more from the waist and knees) created an angle of attack that was harder to maintain through impact consistently which also caused back issues. The Snead setup was more upright, slightly bent from the knees and your rump not sticking out as much. I don’t remember you mentioning the right shoulder dropping the way you’re saying it in this video and I think you should clarify the two videos. I’m not trying to be critical because I think you’re a good teacher I just don’t want to undo what I’ve learned in the Snead video that imo was brilliant teaching for me. I shot my best score of the year after that video.

    • @cdunne1620
      @cdunne1620 Год назад

      Snead video was for address position and more general posture advice
      Side bend is downswing and impact advice
      Personally I don’t see the two as contradictory, what would stop you doing both?

    • @lapdog4135
      @lapdog4135 Год назад

      I think the “right side bend” is more of a natural move through impact then the idea of thinking of dropping the right shoulder. Iow’s when I originally saw this video I felt it was changing my position at impact by thinking of dropping the right shoulder, to me this can lead to a “dipping” effect. This had me thinking about going back to the athletic swing where the consistency of holding an overly bent position through impact is difficult. I obviously misunderstood this but as in all golf instruction videos some apply more than others and some are better to avoid.
      Please know I’m not disagreeing with the coach in this video I just felt the Snead video was more beneficial and practical to my swing. Believe me, I got through a quarter of David Leadbetter’s book and never picked it up again after reading about all the positions and angles he wants you in throughout the swing. To me the golf swing doesn’t work that way. As Seve Ballestero said you can only have 1 or 2 swing thoughts in your head when you’re over the ball anything more then that you’re in trouble.

      @@lapdog4135 ..well if you are quibbling about calling it right-side bend versus right-shoulder-low I think I’m wasting my time, words words words.
      You need to appreciate that it’s too much to verbalise your own particular details and feelings and opinions, they are particular to you, one person in 7 billion. If we all did that the comments would quickly become something to avoid.
      Generally what Jonathon is saying is useful and accurate in its essence. To quibble about verbal descriptions is madness in my opinion, respectfully
