    This episodes is like a test to Gohan fans if they are truly fans of him.There's been way too many people going on about his strength but never of his character. Also I think they are building up Pan for something. Not only she learned how to fly but she's already learning how to fight. This Pan is showing alot potential and something tells me she's going to get even stronger if Super continues after the tournament with Uub.

      Some people just want him to be a Goku clone but more powerful.They only liked him for his strength and only cared if he's a badass. They really are just a disappointment. He's caring for his family giving them the love and attention needed. Even though he isn't as strong like he used to, he still tries to help regardless. He still has his sense of justice but he never had a mind of a warrior. Think about it. Thoughout Z he only trains whenever there's a situation happening. He train with Piccolo only because of the Saiyans were coming, only trianed with Krillin because the were preparing for Namek, only trianed with Goku and Piccolo because of the Andriods, trained in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber because of the Cell Tournament, and trained with the Kai's because of Buu. Whenever there was peacetime he is studying. This episode actually made me feel glad for Gohan to be able to live a normal life.

      as a fan, I can say I'm happy with his character arc. He's no longer the bad ass he was, but he is 1) happy and 2) having a kid changed him. It's a nice pay off when you think of it from Trunks perspective.

    • @ohhai10
      @ohhai10 8 лет назад +7

      +Kryptonian Saiyan His character arc has ended. From the beginning of Z he wanted to be a scholar and not fight, but he was forced to train and fight for much of the series, and had hidden potential to be one of the best fighters. After Cell he really hasn't trained all that much, and the biggest reason he could fight Buu was because of a magic power up unlocking all his powers. So in reality he hasn't trained really seriously since Cell, and he finally achieved what he wanted since the beginning of Z. So his arc has come to a close and I think most people should accept it.

    • @Ramble1234

      ***** From a craft perspective, not really. Gohan as a character can grow through the domesticated life, as Super has been doing. Fighting doesn't have to be the only way his character grows. He might be living out his dream, but his character can continue to be fleshed out.

    Gohan is still my favorite character. Family man and all.
    He's a hero I respect. He saved the world and he was willing to take the time to live in the world he saved as a working man and a family man. To me being a husband and father is more challenging than Cell could ever be and few could accomplish what Gohan has accomplished in our world.
    Do I want old Gohan back? hell yea. Should he return to martial arts just because the fans say so? absolutely not.

  • @Edelweiss1102
    @Edelweiss1102 8 лет назад +17

    Sometimes I really don't get the logic of Dragonball fans. Goku chooses to train for the most part to get stronger and always being ready when a new threat appears but he gets shit on for being a bad father who doesn't care about his family and loved ones. Gohan on the other hand chooses to be a good father and schoolar who takes care of his family but gets shit on for being a pussy who doesn't train. What know? Goku gets blamed because he isn't Gohan but Gohan gets blamed because he isn't Goku? WTF, make up your goddam mind.
    About the episode, I really enjoyed this one. Once again a lot of informations and character developpment. I doesn't always have to be action als over the place, I really like whose little slice of life episodes as they add a lot to the story and characters.
    About Gohan, being a huge fan of him, I really enjoyed this episode. He finally reached what he always wanted, hanving a family, being a schoolar and living a life in peace. He is the character who went through the most developpment besides Vegeta and it's great to see him reaching his final goal, it's like his character and arc have come to a full circle. This is the real Gohan, the one he always wanted to be and as fan I really like seing him being happy with his family and his life.
    The only thing I don't like about this is the whole shit they did in RoF. Was it really nescecary to kill off Piccolo and the hype up Gohan again to then just let him down once again? The whole thing seems kinda pointless. As I said, I don't mind Gohan being what he is because this is what he always wanted, but then they should just stick to it and stopp constatnly hyping him up and then letting him down once again. Another thing I'm a bit concerned about is the whole focus on Gohans family. As much as I love seeing Gohan caring about his family, I hope they aren't just being used and entirely reduced to a trigger to turn Gohan back to his former self he was during the Cell saga by doing something to them. If Gohan becomes relevant again, I hope he does it on is own free will.

    I like how you compared Trunks to the Gohan fans. I really felt for Trunks in this episode. Despite all the warnings, it must have been really weird to see his master so distanced from martial arts. And weirder still that Pan isn't distant from them at all. I just got a chance to watch the RAW version of this and I've gotta say that the episode was very well done. I always understood Gohan on the surface level being that he was never one to seek out fighting and only took it up to protect his friends and his world. As such, it kind of makes sense that Gohan would slack off in training again because that's not what brings joy to his life. What I love about this episode is that we see to a much higher degree than before that Future Trunks is seriously messed up because of the world that he's been forced to live in. Once he sees how Gohan is currently living and has that vision of how things could've been had he lived in this dimensional timeline of earth and the tears start to enter his eyes I started to get a little emotional myself. I'm absolutely loving how they're how things are going thus far and the fact that the episode got to me when I didn't understand a single word of what was said is a testament to how good they are developing each episode in this arc.

    Great review, a very emotional episode, and i hate to admit it, but this one brought a tear to my eye. I think you hit the nail right on the head with the choices of being a family man, or being a warrior who deals with a lot of trials and tribulations. Overall, this is my favorite episode yet. But i hope Gohan will at least show a glimmer of his former badassery when the time comes. All the fighters besides Trunks, Goku, and Vegeta have taken a major plummet in the power level department.

    I think the fact that Gohan didn't even think to ask why Trunks came back in time is the final nail in the coffin for Gohan's chances of becoming a warrior again. Or rather, that's the writers way of telling us.
    It sucks if you are a fan of him fighting. But keep in mind that Gohan never wanted to fight. He was always forced into fighting. He's not like his father. So if you like the character Gohan, you should also be happy for him that he finally got his dream. :)

    I would have loved Gohan to be at least keeping up with Goku and Vegeta. I mean he had so much potential during Dragonball Z and ended up being the strongest non-fused character at the end of the series. It sucks to see him like this yet its so beautiful to see that he's actually a family man and taking care of videl and pan and not dead all the time like Goku. Just like everything else in life, this "Gohan situation" has its pros and cons

  • @usefulverse
    @usefulverse 8 лет назад

    I love how they established gohan here. especially at the end when gohan is playing with pan you can see why he chose to be a family man rather than a fighter. On the flip side gohan has so much to lose right now and I'm not hoping for gohan to go back to his prime but im hoping for a moment when gohan is with videl and pan then realises how vulnerable he is without goku or vegeta. he doesn't need to pull a ssj2 moment but i think this episode will have an impact when gohan's faces with his worst fear. its just amazing what super is doing when they dedicate episodes to character development like this.

    I'd really like to see Black be fought/defeated by Vegeta and Trunks, but especially Trunks. I feel like Goku being snubbed from training and Gohan doing his own thing could be indicators that it could happen. Vegeta has picked up training and will train his son, so it's plausible.

    Man i loved this episode. Being around gohan and his family made trunks realize what hes fighting for. I mean he knew that he had to defeat black, but now he wants to defeat black to one day have a family. I feel his resolve is better now and he will train really hard with vegeta.

    What I really enjoyed about the episode was the way in which Gohan still played the part of Trunks' trainer. We get to see a profound transition in Future Trunks' demeanor as he learns to enjoy the finer things in life from his former master, and he goes home to enjoy his time with his past family. Now, the combat-training torch is being passed from future Gohan to past Vegeta, the father with whom he was only minimally able to connect during his last visit, but who has experienced a profound shift in character himself. He no longer needs Future Gohan. He has his dad back.

    For once an episode that explores deep themes. Gohan fans who are upset he doesn't fight anymore; this is why. He is happy and living the life, even Trunks is jealous. Also love the whole juxtaposition of the diligent and respectful Future Trunks vs the spoilt Kid Trunks, about time they finally showed how different those characters are. Rip Kid Trunks' love life.

    I really hope Gohan will come back. Just because he has a family doesn't mean he can't be strong. One of the reasons we loved Gohan in Dragonball Z is that he was never a fighter to begin with, yet rose up to the challenge when he had to protect his friends. Don't forget that Goku was not all that dissimilar from DBS Gohan in the beginning of Dragonball Z. I remember this instance where Vegeta asked Goku to join him and conquer other worlds, yet Goku said all he wanted was his family.

    People are not fans of Gohan, they are fans of fights. He is happy, had a happy resolution to his life and is not selfish as his father. Good for him, I´m honestly happy. I do not expect him to appear again in this arc, he did what he was supposed to.

    I actually really liked this episode, not just for the fact that the creators tactfully called out their fans who want Gohan to return the way he was, but also as a way to remind Trunks about the reason he came to the past and strengthen his resolve. I feel as if Trunks got so caught up in his anger towards Black for the deaths of Mai (or so he thinks) and Bulma that he forgot about the fact that he came back to save the future. I like the fact that he changed out of his future attire as a sign that he has found his resolve again. I think this is the best episode that didn't involve any fighting.

    There was two times it shows Trunks looking at the city. The first time he struggles with his "ptsd," and the second time he looks at the city he doesn't have the same ptsd attack. Not sure if it is anything of note cause it could be a sign of Trunks moving on, or it's just a coincidence. The first attack could be due to how recently he had that "night" terror of Mai dying to Black.

    +Geekdom great review. If they are really writing off Gohan, I'm ok with that. However, we've seen character development in two episodes already with Pan and I don't think they couldn't do that and not have Gohan affected. Like you said, something could happen to Videl and Pan that could lead to Gohan's "rebirth". Just my opinion. On a side note, I've been following you for about 8 months now and I appreciate the hard work you put in for your videos. Great stuff. 👍

  • @robinbanks-2476

    It hurts me to say this. I am a HUGE fan of the supporting cast (Piccolo, Gohan, Goten , Trunks, Future Trunks) in the Dragonball Franchise and I am only writing this long of a comment to show my displeasure with the progression of the series. The best days of DBZ were when every Z fighter was training to fight the andriods and Cell. When they introduced Goten and Trunks as super saiyans oh man I was soo HYPED. I always loved Gohan's character and how cool he looked in Mystic/Ultimate form.
    However, seeing DBS progress for the first 52 episodes, it is clear that DBS has no intention of involving the supporting cast in any future fights. And even if they do, It will be a mockery of a fight (Piccolo vs Frost & Gohan vs Frieza). It seems as though DBS is turning in the direction of Goku having the spotlight all the time. For me, a good anime is one that shows off the main character as well as other supporting characters. Fairy Tail, Naruto (not really Shippuden), and One Piece I believe do this well. Even DB and DBZ did a great job of incorporating Gohan, Piccolo, Krillin, Goten, and Trunks.
    To see DBS kill off the supporting cast is just disappointing. So much potential wasted. And after seeing this episode where they make a mockery of some of my favorite characters inlcuding Gohan, Piccolo, and heck even Krillin. Gohan not even asking about Trunk's reason to come means that DBS told us it has no intention of including him in this next arc. On top of the horrible new character art (my opinion) and mediocre animation, this blasphemous ridicule of those characters that I held precious to me has really killed my DBS hype.
    And if you are asking well don't you feel happy for Gohan and the others for living in peace? NO! I DONT FEEL HAPPY. Why? Because the DB series is a FIGHTING SHOW with epic Fighting scenes and battles, that's why I watch the show not for the peaceful happy scenes. Sure it is good to see everybody is happy after defeating the villain but this has gone on for far too long.
    Seeing how DBS has been progressing, I predict that in this next arc all of the supporting cast even will not see a chance to fight and that even includes future trunks. The main stage will be hogged up by Goku and with Vegeta playing a slightly lesser role.

    Hey Geekdom, I just thought of something. It's said that Zamasu has a distrust of humans in conjunction with Black saying humans are the gods' sole failure, right? I know that this, along with their ki, makes them similar, but what if (somehow) Black and Zamasu are alter egos and one in the same, the same way Piccolo and Kami are? This could explain their ki similarity. I don't want to assume anything, but that's an interesting speculation to me.

    (my comment after the video) Even before Super, future trunks was my second favorite character and I also noticed that trunks kinda represents gohan if he didn't study so much and everything. I like how gohan grew cause he actually got his wish and became what he wanted. But I just feel that there was a missed opportunity. Like yes they bonded, but there wasn't really a conversation. It kinda gets me wondering what they even talked about during dinner if Gohan forgot to ask trunks why he's here. Also I feel like gohan isn't weak and remember he did train. But even during the cell saga up to now, he doesn't fight unless he has to. That also reminds me, he really wanted to be able to protect his family after what frieza did. Knowing his character he is either back to his peak at the state he's in, he stopped training for the sake of his job, or he's still training. I would say he stopped training for pan but Mr Satan and Piccolo takes care of pan when he's gone (and I'm assuming videl has a job too). so yeah that's my take, it's a good episode with some missed opportunity. Then again, they didn't flat out say that kid trunks was jealous last episode but in the summary before episode 52 they did so they may mention what they talked about during that last episode "postview" before episode 53 (though that may be a stretch).

    I dont mind what they did with Gohan since he never wanted to fight to begin with. He tells cell that during the cell games.
