Katy, you are a treasure! Totally enjoy your videos and lessons. Don't sweat it if you can't spend time uploading videos. Do it when the fancy strikes you! If you can't enjoy your hobby without stress, then what's the point in doing it? Anyway, so love your playing and your bubbly personality! Thanks for this great channel!
Very nice sound, and your tracking is spot on. Your cello playing is come along great for being at it a year. I love the idea of using the cello as a percussive instrument as well. I've gone in the other direction - learning cello after having played the upright bass for the last XX decades :) At least it's still in the same clef, but tuned in 5ths instead of 4ths, and there's the use of that third finger to learn! You show that the cello is an excellent compliment to the violin.
I play cello and fiddle in a local fiddle group and we always combine this song with star of Munster. I've never thought to play anything other than melody, harmony, or baselines on cello; your cello arrangement is really awesome.
I love this, I think the feeling of the arrangement being "too busy" comes from the speed you play at, there aren't too many notes they are just hitting the ears so fast they blur.
I hear this tune all of the time at contra dances, and I always ask the title (embarrassing). You may have finally associated the title and the tune in my head. thanks.
I love your stuff Katy and you are so talented!! You have inspired me to play the cello in the future. Also, I would love it if you would do more cello pieces.
I'd love to do more cello stuff! ^_^ I'm just super nervous because I still don't feel like I play the cello very well... Banks of Spey makes a really nice cello tune - I might try to make a video of that tune. =)
Not sure, I'd have to hear it without the bodhran in the background- it does sound nice as is though. I agree with your thoughts on weekly lessons- especially as a beginner. If you start playing something incorrectly, it's a mistake after one week and a bad habit to undo after two.
all your video are great i learned of em all the time really easily and i dont even play violin lol i started playing cello two summers ago all by ear as i dont know how to read music and its so fun i know different scales but i coulnt name em if my life was on the line lol i totally get what you mean you start leanrnig stuff off videos and just totally drift somewhere else before the vidoe is even done not only you conquered it but you already have a second part
Awesome music! I've been deciding whether I should start on the cello too, and after this, I think I made my final decision:D Keep up the great videos!
This is a powerful arrangement with just fiddle, cello and bodhran. For a great arrangement by a larger band, I recommend The Bothy Band with Tommy Peoples on fiddle.
Hi great vid as always and a lovely piece too! would love a lesson video for this piece or a link to a score of this version or something xD I was also wondering if you have considered exploring some other fiddle traditions some more? maybe Scandinavian pieces or some Breton or Cornish tunes? Breton and Cornish fiddle traditions are quite similar and there are some interesting Cornish pieces in 5\4, and Scandinavian music works great for double stopping techniques because the traditional fiddles from that part of the world used sympathetic strings to create drones.
Thank you! =) I definitely want to explore traditional music from other regions of the world! I've been really curious about Scandinavian, Cape Brenton, and Gypsy tunes. ^_^ I haven't heard very many Cornish tunes, but I'll look into them! =) I've been curious about the Hardanger fiddle, too! I'm hoping I'll find one someday...
Wow this is stellar!!! I honestly feel like this is on par with Pentatonix/Lindsay Sterling. and I'm not just saying that to be kind. I hope you don't take that as an insult either. This was beautiful.
Great job . Cellist coming along too . Don't know where to get help for this : The version of Speed the Plough found by a simple search of RUclips is different from that garnered by searching thesession.org, and from the version in a book I have . Very unfair !
Thank you! =) This tune is a lot of fun! ^_^ I think I recognize you from the Taylor Davis App??! If not, then you look familiar from somewhere! Your playing is great - I like watching your progress videos! =)
Thank you! I currently don't have the sheet music for this written out, but it's something I've been wanting to do! I'm not entirely sure how to write out the cello part since it's so rhythmic, but I'm sure there's a way! ^_^
Thanks! I would love to play this for a recital one year with one of the cello teachers! I am currently your arrangement learning Morrison's Jig and having a lot of fun with it!!
Move the soundpost on the bottom up the slope about 2 Millimeters. This will bring up the G string to the same level as the C and improve the A string as well . Only the side of the post touching the back of the cello.
Wow...just how many instruments do you play?! like... there's the cello and violin in this video, and in another one you were playing... uh... I think it was a mandolin? Not 100% sure on that one but that's what it looked like to me.
This looks like you are having a lot of fun! I would love to do these kind of video's too. Are you using ear pieces? How are you able to listen to your original track, while recording your overdubbed instrument without any bleed? BTW...your tutorials are awesome, I've learned several Irish fiddle tunes from you so far!
Thank you! =) I'm happy that you've been able to learn some of these fun tunes! :D To make these videos, I email the backing track to myself so I can access it on cellphone. I listen to it with headphones (the small headphones that fit into the ear) while I play the fiddle and cello parts. I've learned that I can only have one headphone in one ear in order to still be able to hear the instrument I'm playing. I usually stick the cellphone in my back pocket or on the chair behind me while I play, and I try to hide the headphone wires with my hair and shirt (or I try to only show the ear that doesn't have the headphone in it). I hope you make videos like this, too! It's a lot of fun! =)
Cello is amazing, however as a fiddle player myself who started with classical myself living in the west of Ireland, it's a bit too classical as in possibly more slurs, more soul and less sort of 'play the notes and get through the tune' and slow down a wee bit. The Kevin Burke and Fergal Scahill versions are some good examples of what I'm referring to. Apart from those critiques everything else was fabulous and lovely to listen to !!
I think the basic tune for Julia Delaney isn't too far out of reach for someone fairly new to the fiddle, although I think it's more difficult to play than Tam Lin (mostly because of all the notes -- there isn't much time to pause and take a break). I think someone who is between the late-beginner to early-intermediate levels will be able to play this tune at a slower but enjoyable tempo. The variations I've invented and the speed make it more of an intermediate-level composition, but I still think this version is playable without a bunch of years of training.
I don't know what this one isn't as famous as Morisons and Swallowtail- I think it has an even more pronounced melody. (not that I don't like those too also)
Really awesome players make me want to use my violin for kindling, but it's like a pet or a friend. So I just resolve to play only when properly isolated from the rest of humanity, or in a group of similar strivers under the tutelage of a professional.
I played a version of that tune a few years ago: ruclips.net/video/aMItK2PNAOk/видео.html Although, I think I played it a little too fast back then. I might make a new version sometime in the future. :)
I learn fiddle tunes by ear, and I make up my own variations by listening to the chord progressions. I usually don't use sheet music, and I don't have any sheet music written out for this version.... =/
It took forever to try to keyframe the cello bow! I started to give up and got a bit sloppy with it, lol. Oh well... =/ Thank you for watching and listening! =)
I started learning last year. ^_^ I'm still a beginner, and I have a lot of violin-like bad habits that I'm trying to fix. I really love the cello, and I think the two instruments can complement each other pretty well! =)
Beautiful cello and violin combo. Gorgeous. I hear a bodhran in the background too. Great video splicing too!
Katy. You get better all the time. You are so talented and creative with your videos. Take care. I love you ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for providing inspiration to my budding teenage musicians! They love your videos.
You do a fantastic job and I'm looking forward to your CDs.
Very nice sound, and your tracking is spot on. Your cello playing is come along great for being at it a year. I love the idea of using the cello as a percussive instrument as well. Keeping the rhythm with the cello is awesome; great job!
Thank you so much! =)
very good Katy. alway enjoy listening to your style of playing. keep up the good work

Cello violin combo is so good
Love it! The cello is a great touch!
Listen your songs reminds me my trip in Ireland! So good music :)
Busting out the cello skills too? awesome job !
Don't be too critical of yourself. You need not worry. It sounded great. Your skills are amazing.
A superb job, Ms. Adelson. Love this tune, and the cello sounds great in this song; it adds an awesome element. Could you do a tutorial on it?
Love this tune. Will you do a fiddle tutorial for it please? X
Wow, another great tune beautifully played. I have the score around here somewhere but nobody seems to play this at local sessions.
really woooow it's amazing
my greetings from Egypt :-)
great. Loved it that it looked as if you were looking at yourself.
I hear this tune all of the time at contra dances, and I always ask the title (embarrassing). You may have finally associated the title and the tune in my head. thanks.
Please, go to Spotify!
You are so awesome!!
Didn't think about the cello until I saw your comment. It worked fine.
You are marvelous! Love you so much!
Well, cello there :p Sounds great, I admire your ambition!
Thank you! =) I was nervous to make something like this with the cello part, but it was a lot of fun to put together! :D
Oooh, I like this, quite action packed. 🎈
This is absolutely amazing!!!
Wow!!!! & Amazing Job!!👍😄😮☺❤
What a lovely treat this was to wake up to. Cheers :)
Thank you for your nice comment and for listening! =)

Awesome music! I've been deciding whether I should start on the cello too, and after this, I think I made my final decision:D Keep up the great videos!
Awesome!! The cello is so much fun! ^_^ It's a challenging instrument, but I love the bass notes and deep tone it produces! =)
This is a powerful arrangement with just fiddle, cello and bodhran. For a great arrangement by a larger band, I recommend The Bothy Band with Tommy Peoples on fiddle.
Well I think the cello sounds great on this! Well done Katy!
Thank you so much! =)
amazing! the lake is really beautiful

You are AMAZING!!!
Loved this! How did you get the drum effect ?
I like the accompaniment, a bit of EQ and reverb may help make it sound less busy. Cheers
You are amazing!!

That's strange! :o The version of speed the plow that I've heard the most sounds something like this:
ruclips.net/video/CGdxeB4oNKs/видео.html
this is really good
Thank you so much, Autumn! ^_^
Awesome job!!! :D

To busy!? This sounds amazing!!! In fact, I would really like to learn to play it. Do you have sheet music for the violin and the cello?
Thank you! I currently don't have the sheet music for this written out, but it's something I've been wanting to do! I'm not entirely sure how to write out the cello part since it's so rhythmic, but I'm sure there's a way! ^_^

@@KatyAdelson You're amazing!
Da spiele ich noch gerne mit der Bassgeige mit.

Thank you! =)
Omg yes
I made the 500th like =)
How difficult would this song be to learn as a newer fiddle player??

Katy Adelson thanks im trying to learn on my own do you recommend any reasources to look up??
Masking had to be a pain :D
lol yeah... xD I started giving up towards the end. Next time I'm going to stand further away from the chair. :o
hi katy. im studying your tam lim reel and id like to study this song too. could you send the partiture of this reel? whith cello please. thanks. :)
I'll start working on writing out the sheet music! =)
Katy Adelson thanks... 😆
I don't know what this one isn't as famous as Morisons and Swallowtail- I think it has an even more pronounced melody. (not that I don't like those too also)
Can you share sheet music with us?
Really awesome players make me want to use my violin for kindling, but it's like a pet or a friend. So I just resolve to play only when properly isolated from the rest of humanity, or in a group of similar strivers under the tutelage of a professional.
Play suite de Loudeac
Ooooh! I like that! What a neat tune! =) I think I'm going to start learning that! ^_^
Just listened to this song, great choice! Would love to hear a version from you in the future.
Please play the song Sí Beag Sí Mór
I played a version of that tune a few years ago:
ruclips.net/video/aMItK2PNAOk/видео.html
Although, I think I played it a little too fast back then. I might make a new version sometime in the future. :)
Where did you get the sheet music for this song???
I learn fiddle tunes by ear, and I make up my own variations by listening to the chord progressions. I usually don't use sheet music, and I don't have any sheet music written out for this version.... =/
alright, thank you for the expedient response!!!!
SHADOW CLONE JUSTU

This is so cool, the video editing must have been complexe.
It took forever to try to keyframe the cello bow! I started to give up and got a bit sloppy with it, lol. Oh well... =/ Thank you for watching and listening! =)
You can barely tell, I had to really look for it since the music was so good.
Favoris
when could you play a cello??
I started learning last year. ^_^ I'm still a beginner, and I have a lot of violin-like bad habits that I'm trying to fix. I really love the cello, and I think the two instruments can complement each other pretty well! =)
That's amazing, im planing on buying a cello but for now violin time.
are they twins?
Played with all the feeling of a fence post !
You have my email address write me if you have questions about this
Stop poking yourself in the thigh! I like the percussion on cello, sort of like tapping the side of a bodrhan.
