One of our greatest musicians.. a national treasure , and only 76 views ! If we have money for billion dollar bombers.. we have money to keep this guy in fine style the rest of his life..
For excellent taste of CB on live date: See “Charles Brown - A Life In The Blues” covers full range of Brown material. For this listener’s opinion, NONE in Show Business is capable of the resume of Charles: composer, virtuoso, vocalist supreme, and deserving of title: “The King Of The Blues” from greasy joints to uptown clubs. Thanks loads for this rare treat. Many of his versions are the defining iteration of some standards. His “Cottage For Sale” is reference for others.
Saw CB perform only once, 1991 in Philadelphia - must have been this same tour - and was impressed by two things - his incredible power on the keyboard - he seemed to hit with such power and precision and melody - he wasn't just banging on the keys, but each note was powerfully struck. And the second was that he was such a good looking big powerful man at his age, even with the corny captain's cap. LOL It was a music festival in the summer so I was a little preoccupied with the females passing by, but could tell why women thought he was damn sexy. And I'll add a third after listening to more. His solo recordings are so powerful. He really doesn't need a band for his sound, but always seems to feature a guitarist and sax playing more prominently than they need to.
Well, not exactly ‘underrated’ - In his day, Brown was, most deservedly, billed as “King Of The Blues” and played ‘em all, from Chitlin Circuit to Uptown. And knocked ‘em dead each and every time. Young Ray Charles tried his damndest to cover CB.
Impresionante!! Ya no recuerdo donde fue que lo escuché por primera vez, allá por el año 1998, y desde aquel momento pienso que sin lugar a dudas está entre los mejores del Jazz !!!
What a very distinctive voice

CB is a like a lifetime 🙂 souvenir that keeps on giving.🎶🥰😎🤗💎🌼🌹🌺
Love Charles Brown! This was around the time I saw him in DC. Will never forget that performance.
My God....that was amazing! Thanks for sharing!!
"I went down to the river, thought I;d jump in... vulture told me Wait Charles Brown, She'll come back again ." This is some damn fine poetry
Actually he sings, “I heard a little voice say wait Charles Brown, she’ll come back again”…but good mistake!
Dedicated
