Electrical Substation: Basics.

- An electrical substation is a critical component of an electric power grid, as it facilitates the transfer of electricity from generators to end-users. These substations are typically equipped with a transformer, circuit breaker, and components like a current transformer (CT), potential transformer (PT), disconnector, and surge arrester. All these devices have specific roles to play in efficiently transmitting electricity from the power station to users.
A transformer is responsible for increasing or decreasing the voltage levels of electricity flowing through the grid; this helps reduce losses during transmission over long distances by allowing higher voltage lines to be used instead of lower ones. A circuit breaker helps protect lines and equipment in case of sudden high current surges/short circuits that may damage equipment or even cause fires. CTs and PTs are used for measuring parameters like voltage, current, power factor etc.
This video will show you everything you need to know about electrical substations. Specifically, I’ll cover:
Different types of electrical substations
Substation equipment
How electrical energy travels after generation from transmission substation to customer home.
And lots more
Let’s get started.

Great video! Thank you so much for the breakdown of all the different substations and components to identify them.
really this video is the most briefest explanation for all electrical systems from generation to consumers and is well explained. I hope there is a similar one but with a more detailed demonstration for each device or equipment as mentioned in this video. Thanks so much for all these efforts.
Godly interpreted. Learned a lot on this one 8-minute video. Thank you so much.
Great explanations and demonstration.
A very good insight and demonstration. Thank you 🙏
Love the video and known all different types of Substations but can you please make a video of static var compensator and Statcom?
Best video sharing ❤❤❤
Great explanation ... gained much more knowledge
thanks for this video
interesting video. I liked it ! very good explanation.
Explain the importance of DC in an electrical Substation
Best video substations
Best explanation 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Glad you liked it
Good explanation
Thanks for liking

Hello, what is the name of your profession?
When connecting two voltage levels together failing to get the phase angles right across the breakers can ruin your whole day.
Dinking game every time he says Substation
what is the funtion of static var compensator, and reactors near capacitor banks ??? hope u answer 🙂
Has this been answered?
Due to high inductive load p.f is observed low.
So it's maintain the required power factor.
To maintain the pf
SVC is used to regulate the voltage in the power system.
Reactors near capacitor banks are used to limit the inrush current flowing to the capacitors.
The SVC is an automated impedance matching device, designed to bring the system closer to unity power factor.
Electrical reactors are coils with several turns and fairly high resistance values used to limit fault currents at station that could damage a power transformer or other power systems.
I.m william Dhlamini I.m a master installation electrician now I want to do substation course can you help me
Err the "US" is not the only place on earth with 500kV transmission lines, shock horror, who'd have thought!!🙄
