BCCI team management doesn't want to lose a player of calibre like Hardik Pandya, so they don't want to him to be captain so that they can play selective important series and rest him accordingly, Indian selectors and team management has future goals with logical sense, Gambhir and team management has astute vision and role.
Given that Rohan Bopanna continues to thrive in an individual sport like tennis, internationally, at 42; it is reasonable to believe that Virat and Rohit could perform at the highest level in cricket, a team sport that is generally less strenuous than tennis; no offence to either sports. Physical fitness is crucial, but not about competing or comparing with younger players; age brings invaluable experience, making it an asset rather than a liability.
