Now this is impressive! I hate kitting up projects worse than anything and this idea might just help! Having all those needles pre- threaded and ready to go is genius. I think the coin collector pockets will help with organization as well. Thank you for sharing all these wonderful ideas!
Really cool idea!! I did something kind of similar but not to kit up a project. I bought some pretty cheap coin keepers and cut the pages so I had 4x4 pockets. Then I sewed those into a Needle Book. They are great for holding all kinds of little things... packaged needles, threaders, etc. I made the Needle Book the same size as the 4x4 pocket "page", and even put a little cross stitch design on the front. I was bored. LOL
You've got some great ideas here. I am new cross stitching HAED's and struggling to find a great way to deal with all the floss. I WILL be using part of your method. Thanks!
It is a lot of work, but not any more than bobbinating all of that floss, I don’t think. And I will be all ready to go with needles loaded come Jan. 1!
I have been thinking of doing the something very similar, but wasn’t sure exactly how to do it. I currently have scrapbook paper laminated with the symbols. I taped strips of felt next to the symbols so I could add my threaded needle. I hate threading! It was a way to keep them all together. Remaining threads in a floss box. I was thinking of doing this with baseball cards with a piece of card stock in the sleeve with the #written on it. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks for sharing Jan. I like the idea of having the pre threaded needles but not sure I could handle parking with that many needles attached. I like the coin pockets you've used, they seem like they'll hold up well. How many pages can you get into the 1 inch binder? You can get removable Scotch double stick tape from the store, look in the scrapbook section if its not with the office supplies. Sometimes I use a sewing stiletto to help peel backing paper off adhesive backed papers and such. I can't wait to start Farewell to Anger on Jan 1st.
I love this Jan. I don't do full coverage, but may try it with small ziplock bags as an alternative to punching strips of oaktag to hang the floss. Read about someone using baseball card sleeves for her entire inventory - she used a paperclip to keep the floss secure (there were no flaps). You can also stick in a piece of card stock into the envelopes, then use the back/reverse side of the page for another color or 2. Happy holidays, Gia
Interesting. Thanks for sharing this with us. I make a needle page “book” similar to this. I tape all the color symbols/charts onto a binder divider page(s) and use the very same sticky back felt for needle holders just like you use. I put those dividers into the binder I keep my pattern/paper chart in. I may look into the coin pages for my large FC Projects.
How about putting the opening at the bottom. Put the holder upside down. What do you think? Nothing will fall out. You can put the labels on the flap closures
Hi Jan! A lot of good tips here. I’ve tried using baseball card pages in the past but I think coin pages would work better. I’m going to try your system when I kit up the next grandchild’s Christmas stocking. Great tips. Thanks for recording. ~ Barb
Hi Jan, Thank you for sharing this method of floss organization. Can you share a bit about how you manage the threaded needles if you only need to stitch a few stitches ? I am wondering if you park the thread with the needle attached or do you return the empty needle to the piece of felt? I love the big full coverage pieces but struggle to wrap my mind around managing the threads while you are actively stitching. Thank you, Holly
I do park my threads, but I don’t leave the needles attached. I have the lid of a tin that I glued some magnets on. That is attached to my Lowery stand. So when I take a needle off, I put it in there. And it’s handy when I need to re-thread a thread. Hope this makes sense!
I write the numbers 1 thru whatever next to the symbols. Then when I'm stitching, I look at the symbol on the chart and see what # is next to the symbol on the legend and go to that thread. Since I number them, I can reuse the floss cardboard holders over and over. I hope this helps save time.
That’s an interesting idea. I’ll have to see if I can incorporate that somehow. Since I’m using digital charts in Pattern Keeper, not sure I can do that kind of correlation. Hmm....
I used to store my bobbins in sheets like these but have since gone to storing them in boxes. I find that I have several colors of floss used in more than one project. So I thought I would use this method to consolidate the floss for several medium sized projects in one place so that I don’t have to keep robbing Peter to pay Paul, so to speak.
That’s what’s so nice about this method. All of my floss stays in my main inventory. I just cut off several strands and put them in the pockets. When I run out of a color, I’ll go back to my inventory and cut off more. And the colors are always available for my other projects.
@@JanHicksCreates Then I may try this out for my ssmc wine country living with all of its about 240 colours. That's if I can find them in the UK. I've got them all tied onto a fancy shoe lace in floss bags but I find that they aren't all in order n it needs redoing
It makes things go faster to have the needles ready to go. You could argue that it’s the same, whether to have them ready to go before or at the time of stitching, but it does seem to speed things up to keep them at the ready.
I will offer my thoughts on your kitting as food for thought. I’d do as you do, trimming the strips of color/symbol, the DMC code, align the strips and tape it together, now you have one strip. I then would run the strip through my Xyron sticker maker using the removable tape. This method method allows for easy cutting two colors together, remove one less strip of tape. I use this method with my diamond painting kitting. The Xyron sticker maker is less than $15 on Amazon. Just a thought.
Rather than fiddling with the cutting symbols out and sticking them, why not use a marker and write it down directly? You can then remove the marker with rubbing alcohol when you want to reuse. It may not look that pretty but hey, time is precious, my view. Also, a skein is approx 8 metres, so easy to calculate quarter of skein that way. By the way, well done for being SO organised!
Yeah, I think it was faster to cut out the symbols and numbers and tape them to the page. And neater! Some of these symbols would have been really hard to write out.
Hi Linda! Yes, Wish is basically an online shopping app for Chinese goods. Just like Ali Express. I have never seen DMC on it, though. They have off brand floss, but not DMC. At least from the searches I’ve done.
I don’t think it is. I think they call it DMC, or say something like DMC equivalent, but if you look closely at the wrappers, it’s not the same. But like I said, I could be wrong. I did a search for DMC and only saw this other stuff.
Jan thanks' I will be using this system for my cross stitch from now on. See I'm still learning even at 73 yrs young.god bless carol
I love hearing how crafters approach their tools and process. Super helpful. Thank you.
I like that your thread is organized in protective coverings! Thanks for sharing!

Oh, that’s an awesome idea, too!!
Brilliant!
Wow, that IS super organised.
And it works really well!
Jan! I love organizing ANYTHING! So I really appreciate the way you’re knitting up this project.
Perfect! Thanks for excellent advice.
Hi Jan...love your ideas in this tutorial...keeping your floss intact is always a main goal for anyone...take care❤️😘

Awesome idea. Thanks!
Thanks for the tutorial. Can you show sometime what you keep your main floss in for your storage, and how to store it?
Sure!
Great idea! A lot of prep work but totally worth it!!!

I’m not sure how many pages will fit in a 1” binder. At this point, I have 4 pages and there is plenty of room for more. So I would say 8 - 10 pages.

Holly Moley you just made my stitching organization for a project ALOT EASIER!
How about putting the opening at the bottom. Put the holder upside down.
What do you think? Nothing will fall out. You can put the labels on the flap closures
True, but I think having them facing the right way will work fine.
Fun to watch! Only you would put on workout clothes to prep your HAED!!! :D :D :D

Thanks for sharing your technique! Love the idea. Only worry, do your needles get sticky?
I do keep that in mind, and try to just weave the needles through the top layer of the felt, keeping away from the sticky part.
Jan Hicks thanks! I’ll try that for sure

Are those pockets big enough to put a single skein in?
Yes, easily. In fact, you could stuff two skeins in there if you needed to.

I got mine from Amazon👍
Can you remind me why you put your threaded needles on the the pages?

Could you use a baseball card sheet they don’t have a flap
You could definitely use a baseball card holder, you just wouldn’t have as many colors on one sheet.
You can buy double sided tape without backing. It is Scotch Tape Brand.
Good to know! Thanks!
Forgot. DMC bundles of floss and high end kits, too
What size coin pocket did u buy
They are about 2.5”. There are 12 on a page. The link is in the description box.

Tweezers!
If you say so. I don’t know if tweezers would have even helped me! Lol
Have you heard of great recent app called WISH. They have the pockets and everything else in the rainbow......and today is 50% off day
Linda
Hi Linda! Yes, Wish is basically an online shopping app for Chinese goods. Just like Ali Express. I have never seen DMC on it, though. They have off brand floss, but not DMC. At least from the searches I’ve done.
Jan Hicks
Some are marked DMC floss and show tabs. Is this not DMC
There is another message in the Star stitch with me canvas stitches last week. I can’t get it to copy
Linda
