You Go, Girl! So what??? You were two minutes over. You were using a brand new machine. It’d probably have taken me an hour just to figure out how to use it! I really like both of your channels. And what do they have in common? YOU! Your personality really shines through. Thanks for all you do. 😊
OMG! I was stressed just watching that! 😂😂 As soon as I have a time limit my brain goes “AAAAAARRRRGHH!!! 😱🤯” I have been saving up for a new sewing machine and I managed to scrape enough together with my Christmas money to get myself a “used but very good “ Heavy Duty Singer one for £199 😆 It hadn’t even been used! 😃 So I ran up a leopard print boxy top to try it out. The foot pedal speed is going to take a bit of getting used to but I’m hoping I love it as much as my basic one 🥰
I had this book for Christmas, how happy I was. It is the only book I have ever seen with a small section on fitting tips for people in wheelchairs - I was so excited by this I can't tell you. Sadly, I decided to have a sewingroom blitz and as I can only do 30 minutes at a time it's going to take months. This T is on the very top of my 'makes' list.
Thank you for posting this video. I enjoyed watching the struggles and the WIN! You finished your shirt and yes, it is a wearable! Looking forward to the next video!!
Good attempt! No, I’ve never tried making a top in an hour. Neither do I have a serger. My family gave me the Cashmerette book for Christmas and I do look forward to trying it.
Claire you are so real when it comes to sewing Love watching your channel I also recently started sewing and I love it even my failures are success due to the learning experience gained
I really did enjoy your video. I bought that book and from what I have seen it looks very good. I'll bravely try to figure out the size, and I will not put myself on the clock!! That much stress I do not need. When I was young I made all my own clothes, non on knit fabric. Tor blouses I could cut two out at once and I probably got them done in and hour. I haven't sewn clothing for a long time now, except caftans, so this will be a good challenge.. I do enjoy your videos.
It's not a fail if you learned something. You could probably thread that machine much faster now. I love the idea of making raglan t shirt. It's such basic wear, it never occurred to me. Ok, my new year will be making basic wear. It will help my skill level and give me some nice everyday wearable tops. You make me feel comfortable pushing myself. Thank you.
Girl I just love you and your videos! You’re sunshine to me. I want to get a lot of sewing done this year and finish 3 quilts I’ve had sitting for a few years.
Yes, I think you can do it. We slept over at our sons house xmas eve and cozied up in front of his fireplace. Then had a quiet afternoon playing board games at home on Xmas. I love your videos.
I love this video. Watching you race the clock was fun. You always make me laugh. I enjoy your videos because you show us the good, bad and ugly. Good luck on the WW plan.
Just paused the video! Yes!!! I think you can do it! I love Cashmerette Patterns, and how they fit on me. I got the book too, and I am looking forward to seeing what I can make! Lets go! ok, I just saw the whole thing. It looked like on one hand you were under pressure, but it looked fun! Honestly, if you have not used your serger before, that is pretty darn good. Each machine has its quirks, and if you did not do this before, you cannot expect it to be perfect. It looked fun, and I am looking forward to seeing what else you do. Please keep going!
Yay for making videos you like! This was good fun: I am impressed with what you did within the time, given that you definitely did make it difficult for your self.
I don't enjoy a tight time challenge when I'm sewing. I'm not skilled enough to know exactly what I'm doing and I already have an anxiety disorder, I don't need more stress on top of that lol. I spent Christmas eve frantically sewing pj bottoms and Christmas day frantically cooking Christmas dinner, like I do every Christmas. I never learn my lesson either lol.
I was a bit stressed watching you time yourself! Fun idea for a personal challenge but personally I would never do it because I'm such a slow sewer haha. However, I did just get a serger so maybe that'll speed things up. I do really like a two-tone raglan. It looks sporty!
I thoroughly enjoyed this. using resources you have not used before was motivational for me. I received two new sewing books yesterday packed with patterns lol. sizing and fabric choice mistakes, recutting necks and doing them again, and not just chucking the whole project all great stuff. Your corrections about testing stitches etc will play over in my head now. please do not consider this a fail I think you did great warts and all. you and I have a lot of matching warts, my dear friend. even after 50 years of nonstop sewing I still make all of these mistakes and all. you are not perfect and I love that about you. I always love your sewing presentations and devour them as soon as they pop up. don't stop doing what you do in just the way you are doing it because you inspire me xxx
Hi Claire! Our Christmas plans had to be cancelled when we tested positive for Covid on Christmas eve..... and we were supposed to be hosting my sister and her family, my brother and his family and my grandmother.... so we kinda ruined everybody's Christmas. I got a cricut for Christmas and I'm a bit overwhelmed by it. It's nice to see sewing videos again.... but don't overdo it, take care
Oh I’m sorry to hear this! I hope you have recovered? Very envious of your cricut! I keep looking but can’t justify the cost atm hopefully one day! There’s lots of videos about them though so I’m sure they can help you.
@@Penguinandpear I have almost recovered thank you... but you know with fibro and ME everything takes longer to heal.. the rest of the family is fully recovered. The cricut was the Cricut Joy and was only £129 on amazon and pay over 5 months
I enjoy videos about other types of sewing. You make the videos not whatever you are doing. I always feel better after watching one of your videos. Thank you for them.
I'm still very much a beginner at sewing and I LOVE making raglan tops because they're so easy! I also resort to cuffs/bands whenever I can because hemming is the worst, especially around the sleeves :D Re: Cashmerette size calculator: I treat it as a starting point. A lot depends on what sort of fit you want, for example the calculator told me to grade to size N at the waist, but I knew I wanted a bit more snug fit in that area (and realised that if I follow their advice I'll have a boxy t-shirt with no defined waist, which is not my cup of tea) so I went for size N-1. One problem I have with the Cashmerette calculator is that it wants your bra size, and assuming I am wearing the correct one is somewhat risky :) My NY resolution is to try at least one pattern from each book and magazine I own, so "Ahead of the curve" is definitely in my sewing plans for 2022. All the best!
I can't do anything with a time limit. My brain goes haywire too often, and I know I'll have to do things multiple times before I get it to an acceptable state. As far as judging size charts, I always go much bigger. My shape is very round, and I don't really want anything fitting me too close.
Thank you so much for sharing as these are the same problems that many of us have choosing sizing. Would make a nice night shirt or just around the house and I do like the blue and white coloring on you.
I received the Jaguar overlocker for Christmas. It's fab. Loved watching you make the top, the way most of us sew. Nothing ever go's as smoothly as we'd like. Well done, still a very quick make.
I got an overlocker for Christmas, I really appreciate you showing using yours. I would watch the video if you didn't challenge yourself to an hour make anyway :)
Yes, I think you can make it in an hour! My main sewing resolution is to use up what I have (fabrics, thread, etc.) and not buy any garments this year! I've made a top in an hour before and it looked like I rushed. Slow sewing works out better for me because I make less mistakes. I like your raglan top. I need to put one of those on my list! p.s. I always cut a bigger size because I like my clothing to fit loose since I live in Arizona and for most of the year, it's warm or hot here.
Hahaha, this was so funny... Lots of talking, while time is ticking away :D I stopped with resolutions. Way too stressful :) But your resolution is great: do what makes you happy!
Interesting about the size calculator I had the same problem with it. It came to a conclusion a size or two down from a good fit, but it was good on the shoulders. Anyway well done, you’ll need to tame that overlocker I think 😂. Happy new year and thanks for the vlogs.
I find sewing videos are sewing the garment in an hour are extremely useful as you can time yourself against the video. In theory this should make my sewing quicker, but I have not yet sewn a garment timing myself while sewing the garment against the video. This was a nail-biter and fun to watch! Already looking forward to the next video! I got the Cashmerette book as a gift as well (actually told my husband to get it for me - lol). Looking forward to trying out the patterns in the book over the next few weeks.
Well you gave it a good try. My resolution is to just learn more about sewing and fitting issues. Been drafting a couple of patterns and fixing some pants. Getting some material. I lucked out I got fabric I ordered and got a bonus of almost 2 extra yards. I’m thinking skirt or summer shorts. I’m short 5’2’’ and fabric is 56 inches wide so it should be plenty. Best of luck with the diet.
I think you can do it! I have made simple knit tops in an hour or even 45 minutes. The serger will really speed it up too. Although this is the first time using a new machine so that might slow it down, just fine tuning your settings and stuff.
Well done! I totally agree with you when you’re not used to a new toy it can be a little time consuming. I hate doing the neck lines too..... I find that I like to add double the width of the neck line easier to surge with ( looks better on me) I find it frustrating when my thread breaks as well... I find it for me that it’s the quality of the thread it does this (I use maxi lock thread for my serger) keep up the great work ! Good try Claire. I really think speed is overrated in this world. Accuracy is important and enjoyment as well.❣
So true this video is why I support slow sewing.
