I'm so excited for the future of realm and the realm rework as well. Most of my playtime of this game is just casual realm clearing with randoms and it never gets old. Hopefully the realm rework adds more into that aspect of the game.
This is how we all got into the game, and it’s something I have sorely missed since the mundane disc meta. I like realm but never feel like playing these days due to the lack of people just chilling and pairing up ect. I hope this aspect of the game is renewed with a realm rework

I think they need a version of the game where perma pots are actually permanent so that when I show the game to my friends they don't get overwhelmed and quit. also I think backpack getting removed on death is a bad look for new players its an in your face cash grab. maybe just make soft core and hard-core modes both where you lose everything on death but maybe new players can slowly start further along by making there perma pot stats still there after death so new players and experienced players can both have fun in there own modes.

Things I would implement / change. For guild halls, add more secret rooms, increase the size from 50 to 100, add larger maps based on more guild fame, and a guild vault which can be upgraded via gold or fame. Add shaders to the game, It would be optional so u can turn it off or on at will, and it would make the game look so much better imo. That would include reflected surfaces and I think it would look awesome. If they do another hardmode, I think halls / cult and void would be the easiest option to implement. For mbc, drag spooky boi onto boss to activate hardmode with 3x health and 35% more shots with 35% more damage. Maybe new phases and randomize the phases. For cult you would have to activate all 5 flames and it would add green and black followers to boss. With sick and darkness debuffs respectively. For void, the hm cult would drop a hm vial, and it would make void have 2x health, more damaging, platform would disappear quicker, and have a permanent bleeding final phase with 20 shots instead of 12. For enchantments, randomize and have dust for reroll, and be able to unlock more slots by doing different dungeons. So u could have different exalts give dust and that dust would give different enchantments for rerolling. Multiple shiny variants, so it could drop from a loot table, and if the item is dropped, it has a second table to determine which variant you can get. Some would be better than others, so having that with the enchant system could be fun. The option to turn off exalts for characters (especially in seasonal and crucible) to make things harder and more interesting. Id always wanted the obsidian summit to come out, but ive never seen anyone work on it. It would've introduced the burning effect which is bleeding but 3x more damaging, and you can die to it. You could possibly have it where u have to get an item from the garnet and jade statues, like an inc but for the summit. You would have to activate it on a different set of statues to spawn the realm even for the summit. Could be a fun dungeon if implemented. For whenever you disconnect from a realm or server, instead of being in a queue, you would spawn into a room and the queue would be above the player so they can wait to spawn in the server / realm / dungeon. like an afk realm or something. Could be interesting. Just a few ideas :d
IGN: Candyfied I think another way forge can be balanced is giving forged items a duller sprite then the ones that actually dropped. Like the shatters rehersal items.

I am playing rotmg since 2012 and i think game develop is really good since deca take control of the game. Cant wait to see what waits for us in future.
One thing I would love to see would be a mobile app or something where you can log in and collect your daily reward from there, and maybe even access the shop and buy gold and stuff. I think that would be super helpful
Im curious what a good player retention rate is and for what length of time. Do they want people playing 1 hour every day? 4 hours once a week? Or does it just matter how much a player spends? only saying this because at ~21:00 acalos mentions that he'd like new players staying longer. What is the criteria for success?

also random idea: when new players join realm, its like pokemon. You are given the choice between three eggs when you start and they show different stats. One might be humanoid and its a healer, then another a damaging spooky egg. I think only new players can get the true benefits from pets that isn't just heal m heal and electric. New players could somewhat benefit from having a free pet from the start helping them fight.
I think the way to tackle the new player experience is for rotmg to lean into the different leveling up systems they have. Maybe when a player reaches lvl 20 for their first time, theyre given 10 random stat pots to show them that they can get more powerful?

Great podcast! I cannot wait for all the new things that are coming. I am still pretty new to the game and even I am nervous about the rework because I don't want the game to look different but Acalos is right, games need to move forward sometimes and I hope it turns out good for realm.
There's so many easy fixes that could hugely improve this game but because of cashgrabs its never going to happen. chest events with a billion tokens, default settings being awful for new players, the tutorial and ingame tips/info being LARGELY insufficient (especially for the new realm), event and daily spam being mega overwhelming and confusing. Stuff that takes more time but is critical for the longevity of the game is making the UI better, improving loading times (infinite or 20 seconds of loading is still a thing HOW), anti cheat - implement this somehow idc how and reset all fame and then make spending fame in the shop actually worthwhile. Things that would be amazing but will never happen: remove keys for gold and make them purchaseable with fame or resources u get by doing the content in the realm. Make crucible mods actually interesting again instead of flat changes to stats (its so boring right now) and more rewarding. Make them permanent and have way better quest rewards that reset. Remove lootboxes and ST sets from the store.
