This was a fun video to watch and with some interesting results notable from volunteering. I, for one, feel more connected with others and less depressed when volunteering. I also love to work with a team of others to accomplish a common goal.
I originally wanted to study medicine (still do), but a year of volunteering at a hospital showed me, how much I enjoy nursing as well. Now I am in an apprenticeship for nursing with my former "volunteering-employer"😊
Volunteering has helped me to gain more experience and also to help people. I am person who has really struggled to get a job, so for me right now volunteering is the only way have been able to get more experience and to learn skills that can't learn in a classroom. Every time when I have applied for Jobs no one had ever given me a chance, so volunteering is the only way I have been able to learn and gain experience.
Great video Amber. Volunteering through my Non Profit has made a huge difference in my life. I love your tips and it all makes so much sense. Hope to see more of your videos soon. Volunteering has led me to also take an interest and study psychology.
I was brainwashed like this when I first started doing voluntary work. I thought I was doing good for the local charity but then I realised 6 months down-the-line that I was just getting the p*** took out of me because I was a worker. And some people were complaining that other volunteers just sat there On the till. until I pointed out that they can sit there all day if they want. They are not getting paid This is in one of the local shops. I am on about who sell the goods to make money for that charity So I moved myself into the warehouse. Doing voluntary work for the same charity and again. People just took the p*** out of my good nature. So I packed it all in and I will never, ever do , or donate to charity ever again.. That is the reality of working in a charity shop.🏴
I'm sorry you had a bad experience! :( Please understand that no two organizations are exactly alike though. I've met countless of wonderful people doing volunteer work!
I once worked , doing voluntary work for a local charity, and they just took advantage of me. I was only doing 1 day a week. the manager kept phoning me up to do 2 days a week. Cause we are shorthanded, he said Then I was doing 3 days a week. Then I was doing 4 days a week. They take advantage of your good nature. And the DWP (department for works and pensions). The benefits system in the UK turns around and says, if"you can do 4 days a week voluntary work. So, you can go to work , and get paid . That is the bad thing about doing voluntary work. People taking the p*** out of your good nature. You doing all the work while the manager? plays games on their phone That is my experience anyway. 🤔 🇬🇧.
I'm so sorry you had a negative experience. My own volunteer experiences have been wonderful times I've learned new things, made friends, and been inspired. A skilled volunteer coordinator can sometimes make all the difference in making you feel welcome and supported!
Amber Melanie Smith yeah, I think one huge benefit for me was a possibility to practice my English with native English speakers :) definitely recommend go to volunteer to those who wants to improve and practice English!
As a former homeless man i find "volunteers" extremely patronising and awful to deal with. I truly believe people who volunteer do it for their own ego, to make themselves feel better and to act superior to those less fortunate. Their sanctimonious platitudes never helped me, nor did their attempts of being kind work. I got out of homeless via my own hard work and effort now im making money and happy in life. I urge people to take of themselves first and most of all and never to rely on those "selfliss" folk who really are the most selfish of us all in my book.
Thank you for sharing your perspective. I think it's really important for people to hear from people who have actually lived it. When you know better, do better (Maya Angelou).

The data backs up your personal story! People who volunteer and are unemployed are more likely to get a job!

Thank you so much! YES! Psychology has so many interesting tie-ins. I love understanding what motivates people to take action, for example.
Thank you Amber ...
Peace and blessings to everyone
Thanks Michael!

That is one reality of a volunteer job. For every bad experience there are plenty of good ones.

I like the way you explain and your accent
:) thanks!
When I tried volunteering, the women were either married, too young, or too old ! I don't think I'm the right person to be a volunteer !
😅
Amen
:)
Thé age IS t limited
You mean there are age requirements to volunteer? Sure, there can be. I talk about volunteering for youth in other videos if that helps!
❤
