After trying to get a Gladius from a Hoplite, which quite literally took longer than getting their banner while I got 7 Hooks, 2 full sets of Gladiator armor, 5 spare helmets and over 2k Javelins... yeah that's pretty accurate.
@slayerofdarknssdmt9697 This one is the worst. I hate farming for the Rod of Discord every single time. I only rarely do it when I forget just how bad it is.
@lazyaussie2818i fished for one for six straight hours and got every drop you can from obsidian crates besides the ornate shadow key and the lava charm.
@TriflingToad ~600 kills only means you should statistically have seen just one drop, so it isn't too outrageous compared to my ~2500 kills for it, during which I also got ELEVEN hallowed keys (granted, those drops from any enemy, but still)
@donkeyching8339 ???? That's like saying the piggy bank is the rarest item because its got a 0% drop chance from anything but the merchant's inventory. When was this video ever about specifically drop rates? Some of the highest items on the list are literally travelling merchant items
Small timesave for the Amber Mosquito item: you can combine chlorophite bars and an extractonator to get a chlorophite extractonator, which lets you put fossils/slush/silt in faster. I don't know if it increases drop chance, but would make it slightly faster all the same. Also: great video! I learned some new things!
The chlorophite extractor will give you hard mode ores and more money. I might be wrong but I think it lowers the chance of getting amber mosquito with the larger item pool
@zarkthelark that is a reasonable conclusion, but I just looked it up (using wiki gg) and it seems like it just lowers the rates of pre-hardmode ores to make room for the hardmode ores, and the drop rate for the amber mosquito stays the same.
Technically at 20:56 you could probably get the ladybug a bit faster if you didn't kill them like that. Killing ladybugs decreases your luck, and golden critter spawn rates are dependant on luck (though maybe killing them saves more time than the luck detriment, dunno). That said you could also wear some luck-boosting items or use a luck potion to probably help out there too, and for a lot of other rare mob drops.
I got Uzi with rng before beating any hardmode bosses, which goes to show the difference between the odds of getting something during the 99% of your time when you're not looking for it and the 1% when you are.
I started collecting every single item a few weeks ago, have gotten all banners, statues, music boxes, paintings, golden critters and all boss relics, trophies, masks and mastermode pets. I might make a similar video but with the hardest item to get from a collectors perspective. I mean everything (even banners) from all events are "easy" because even if have to run the event multiple times, you are making progress in multiple areas at once. Getting the rare martian drops while getting banners. Getting the blood moon painting while getting all banners aswell. The real pain for me was the Sparky and Waldo paintings, the turtle statue of all things (turtles as such a rare spawn), and the most notable banners are the Angry Dandelion as it cannot be farmed properly at all, doctor bones, tim and the rune wizard are all extremely rare enemies, with the rune wizard taking the top spot as an overnight afk session was barely enough to get his banner. Btw the nymph banner used to be rare years ago, now it is just a myth, I usually get 1 during a regular playthugh, but since nymphs just keep spawning under almost all conditions, while farming for something else, you can just keep getting banners, i have like 20 already. Slime staff is also very easy, you can get like 2-3 while farming for the pinky banner which is way harder to get. The sand shark and it's variants banners are a pain to get as sandstroms are quite rare and usually you can only get like 40-50 kills during a single sandstorm and you need 200 total while swapping biomes (thus making the desert elemental banner basically free). I miraculosly already had a golden mouse from some playthrough although I'm certain that one is the hardest to get. It took me around 2-3 hours for the golden seahorse and water strider, but like 8 hours for the golden dragonfly with optimal spawn conditions btw. I don't get how the golden bunny even made it on your list though I think I have 20, 15 squirrels and 5 birds, also 3-4 grasshoppers, these are very easy, becuase you are very likely to come across them during a regular playthrough. All in all it comes down to 2 things, 1. It is easy to farm if you can 100% automate the process (goodie bags, presents, 75% of banners and enemy drops) 2. You can cycle what you do based on the weather. Farm the sharks during sandstorm, farm either water striders or dragonflys depending on rain if wind speed is less than 20 and it is day, get thunderstorm stuff eventually when it happens, and of course check travelling merchant stock every single time he shows up, etc. The hardest things to get are the ones you have to specifically hunt for, while having the pay almost full attention to the game, like the Waldo painting and most golden critters. And getting a specific painting from the travelling merchant has to be way rarer than the angel halo, I'm still missing 1 single painting and I have seen the man line 200 times already. Next up I'm going to takle all vanity sets, pets, wings, hooks, minecarts, light pets, then I will focus on stuff that actually aid progression, like weapons and armor. One last fun fact I actually farmed the doctor bones banner when it used to be a 0.5% drop chance, it took a week of afk-ing at a farm, and I have 1.1k Hornet banners to show for it.
Those sand sharks were probably one of the most annoying enemies to get when 100%ing the Bestiary, I naturally managed to get 3 of the 4 as I ended up getting the hallow, crimson and pure desert ones on their own (I was lucky enough to have both a Hallow and Crimson desert) but to get the corruption one meant I had to wait ages for a sandstorm to happen. The other ones would be the costume skeletons, which is largely due to me being in hardmode and normal skeletons being rare spawns in hardmode. Halfway through trying to find them I gave up on doing the Pumpkin Moon every night and just changed my system date instead lmao.
Hello, fellow collector. 1. The Angry Dandelion banner did look scary at first, indeed, but a farming setup can easily be done, with a forest biome in the sky and the Afk platform to either side - depending on the wind's direction. Such a setup got me its banner in 1 single windy day. 2. I had the same luck with the Golden Dragonfly. It took me the longest by far, getting the golden variant at 900 normal dragonflies. But that was my payback for the Golden Seahorse, where I had lottery winning luck and got the gold variant as the very first seahorse I've seen in that collection world. 3. The sandsharks were indeed a pain, sandstorms are quite a rare occurence.
9:00 as a huge empress of light fan, who always does daytime empress... i usually get a pretty casual setup for farming lacewings and i can get 6-7 a night pretty consistently. you just need to have some flat ground, stand like 40 blocks above it, and use a water candle + battle potion. lifeform analyzer too of course
@Nate-bd8fg Aglet for me 😭😭😭 2 water boots, 3 lava charms, then I scoured the entire surface with the metal detector and didn’t get a single Aglet. Like are we fr
Watching this and seeing a few items that I've found relatively commonly and didn't realize they were rare. I've found an absurd amount of Hardy Saddles
I think you could've sped up the nymph banner by setting up dart traps on the spawn platform, which would've aggro'd the nymph and made her go to the kill platform
Maybe im torturing myself by doing this but I started a ranger playthrough and I set out to collect every obtainable item in the game. Im gonna complete the bestiary, get all pets and stuff, basically I wanna do everything and get everything.
I did this a while ago on a Journey Mode character, getting every item researched. There was some website where I could upload my character file to see which items I was missing.
I now know what beginner's luck feels like. I got a friend to try terraria with me, i knew about the waldo painting that its rare but didnt think of it to much. In that play through my friend found 2 waldo paintings almost back to back before we even entered hard mode.
Yea they totally can be, but I think this guy is looking for stuff without buying it/ otherwise easily getting it. I say this only because he also grinds for the wings that you get with every journey world
@pallic703I think he’s not counting Journey wings specifically, I’d imagine something you can buy is “getting” it since he has traveling merchant items on the list
Fascinating video :0 I had to take a few breaks bc of that short background music loop but I’m hyper sensitive to that stuff so it’s probably just me 😂 Instant sub!
Great video. I Guess you played a journey mode character, to show the items but went for the rarity rates in a classic game, since some items on the list are vastly easier in journey mode with all the settings. Like weather dependend or (harder) to farm monster spawns. Also any grab bag item is pretty easy to get with infinite bags once you unlocked the item.
Using the contamination to find the dirtiest block feels like fighting a boss in dark souls without walking through the fog wall… it takes all the fun out of it.
Hiding the team block in the thumbnail with the clear bait and switch with the universal pylon is absolutely perfect. I love that detail so much Edit: HE CHANGED THE THUMBNAIL
I had played terreria for 2 whole years and thought I knew it all but turns out I had no idea about the universal pylon, when I first saw it in a video I 100% thought it was a mod. I had to play for like 40 hours to get it
Watching this is making me realize my most recent playthrough w a few friends has been SO INCREDIBLY LUCKY. We've gotten the slime staff, nautilus painting, halo, spiffo plush, Uzi, rod of discord, and I'm genuinely probably missing a few. It's insane because we were not actually grinding/farming for ANY of them.
1.4.5 added a boulder pet that drops from a special boulder identical to a regular one. In a single world, 2 (small worlds), 4 (medium worlds), or 6 (large worlds) are generated in the entire world. So you have to find boulder traps, get the boulder to break, and check and see if it dropped the item. I think it's arguably worse than the dirtiest block since boulder traps are spread out much more evenly throughout the world.
16:11 feel like flower boots + a 1000 block long grass platform works. Can't remember if teleportets save momentum, if they do, tp back to start. Autoswing a sword and run.
I always get amber mosquitoes early game because i either gun for fossil or jungle armor, and obviously the fossil armor gives me a pretty good chance of getting it.
the rarest item is a life crystal in a multiplayer world.
The hopefully not looted sky island with a starfury:
Skill issue
Spend more time in the caves and try living
@Mafedy i beat the game with 100 hp and no armour before. i can live. i was talking about the ones that wanna play with me usually.
@sleprvrru6y-lin-92 alright
The rarest item is the item you're farming for
After trying to get a Gladius from a Hoplite, which quite literally took longer than getting their banner while I got 7 Hooks, 2 full sets of Gladiator armor, 5 spare helmets and over 2k Javelins... yeah that's pretty accurate.
yep, and then it ends up dropping when you're not farming for it.
Damn, i finally got Influx Waver after anihilate goddamn 132 martian saucer
16,350 chaos elementals, 1 singular elusive fkn lolipop and a raing player whos brought with him a genocide onto the hallow
still no rod of discord
@slayerofdarknssdmt9697 This one is the worst. I hate farming for the Rod of Discord every single time. I only rarely do it when I forget just how bad it is.
You know the items will be rare when the dirtiest dirt block is in last place
That being said, that method of finding it blows out of the water anything I've seen for hunting it.
it's a method made by wand of sparking i think
i mean it is guaranteed so
Yeah, this threw me off. This was what I was expecting to be the rarest or high up lmao
For some reason I stg I get the dirtiest block within 30 minutes of starting a world every time.
The rarest item is that damn lava charm
it's a lot easier to fish for one.
@lazyaussie2818i fished for one for six straight hours and got every drop you can from obsidian crates besides the ornate shadow key and the lava charm.
@lazyaussie2818 You forgot how slower Lava Fishing is even with the lava gear
yes so true its stupid ive spent 7 hours fishing and ive caught 3 crates total.
You can just shimmer a magma stone to get it though.
The rarest item is those godforsaken Ice Skates
only when you're looking for them
True iam looking a ice skate for hours for terraspark boots
I have too many 😭
My playthrough world had 5 of them but almost no waterwalking ones
I feel that this applies to any item that's part of the Ahnk Shield, Terraspark Boots, or Shellphone.
@mr.poogalizer8632don’t forget the zenith
Found the dirtiest block just cleaning the basement out of my starter house on my newest world lol
Same, I think Relogic made a spawn map for it, which make it so will be most likely spawn near spawn
@nAUTHORious i always thought it spawned in different parts of the world
I had a similar experience with the RoD. Found one almost immediately after entering hard mode.
There are less pockets in the dirt at spawn so it could spawn more often there...
7:18 "without loss of generality":
Mathematician spotted, mathematician spotted!!! Everyone get em!!
wlog
That was my exact thought and I came down here to see if anyone mentioned it!
“nerd alert! nerd alert!” says me, the nerd
@donkeyching8339 spiderman pointing meme
actually the critter companionship is useful because it allows you to break grass without killing the bugs so that you can use them as bait!
The rarest item is whatever enemy drop you're farming at that time.
killed >600 of the guys for the rod of discord and still didn't get it, but I got the sugar glider pet on the 2nd tree of the game
@TriflingToad ~600 kills only means you should statistically have seen just one drop, so it isn't too outrageous compared to my ~2500 kills for it, during which I also got ELEVEN hallowed keys (granted, those drops from any enemy, but still)
Yes yes one of the rarest items in the game, the mining helmet. It costs a whole 3 gold from the merchant
buying it isn’t a drop chance. that’s like saying because you can cheat it in it’s super easy to get. that’s not the point of the video 🙄
@donkeyching8339 ???? That's like saying the piggy bank is the rarest item because its got a 0% drop chance from anything but the merchant's inventory. When was this video ever about specifically drop rates? Some of the highest items on the list are literally travelling merchant items
@donkeyching8339 8:40
its so silly that the mining helmet made it in, i wonder how he overlooked that.
@menacing_name except he’s not referring to items like that. The mining helmet has a low drop chance
Small timesave for the Amber Mosquito item: you can combine chlorophite bars and an extractonator to get a chlorophite extractonator, which lets you put fossils/slush/silt in faster. I don't know if it increases drop chance, but would make it slightly faster all the same.

@Cheevsie Thanks for the clarification
Also pretty sure the brick layer also speeds this up!
And i *think* you can drinking a builders potion and use the hand of creation to speed it up too?

could catch them with the net and then also know how many it took him to find it shouldn’t be a huge difference if anyone’s going for one
I got Uzi with rng before beating any hardmode bosses, which goes to show the difference between the odds of getting something during the 99% of your time when you're not looking for it and the 1% when you are.
1:30 that's the fastest world record speedrun I've ever seen.
Still looking forward to the tutorial to this day. Wonder what's taking so long. 🤔
Dream%
My buddy Eric did it faster once
I started collecting every single item a few weeks ago, have gotten all banners, statues, music boxes, paintings, golden critters and all boss relics, trophies, masks and mastermode pets. @Zsomi8 which mode are you playing on
@Tysoup Master mode, with a maxxed out character of course

please give tldr
Is... is the Mining Helmet not purchasable from the merchant?
It is
What merchant? Are you mixing up minecraft and terraria
The traveling merchant doesn't sell one so no
@soulsand4287????
The non-traveling merchant sells it.
Bro casually has a jungle key sitting on the ground in the frog clip
I applaud your dedication. Side note your zoom editing made me dizzy
16:30 Jungle key just lying on the floor.
the things you do on journey mode lol
3:50 I swear I get like 2 or 3 every playthrough
9:00
as a huge empress of light fan, who always does daytime empress... i usually get a pretty casual setup for farming lacewings and i can get 6-7 a night pretty consistently. you just need to have some flat ground, stand like 40 blocks above it, and use a water candle + battle potion. lifeform analyzer too of course
pretty sure blood moons also increase the spawn rate. They seem to count as enemies
I get about 10-12 with a bloodmoon candle, so following the maths, with a battle potion, I recon you get 12-15 with a battle potion,
67 lol
@firecoat1235 Dawg..
how much per night?
14:18 what the cultist archer doin
How did you notice that 😭
@cringe_GM Waldo would never stand a chance against vro
Anklet of the fucking wind
Lava charm
@Nate-bd8fg Aglet for me 😭😭😭
2 water boots, 3 lava charms, then I scoured the entire surface with the metal detector and didn’t get a single Aglet. Like are we fr
I discovered this channel 2 days ago & already binged everything, your content is really interesting!!
Wierd seeing the hardy saddle here seeing the sheer quantity I've fished up while trying to get other things
8:16 I have like 3 of those fish just because I wanted the water walking boots to get the terra spark boots
That gotta be the deepslate emerald ore
20:04 you can put a dart trap to agro mimics and nymphs
For the Martian drops, don't those also just drop from the saucer?
The zenith's sorta bad for farming kites from balloon slimes because they don't drop them if you pop their balloon _before_ killing them.
Maybe im torturing myself by doing this but I started a ranger playthrough and I set out to collect every obtainable item in the game. Im gonna complete the bestiary, get all pets and stuff, basically I wanna do everything and get everything.
I literally started a run like this as summoner around when you posted this but i also have thorium and some other qol mods on bc torture is fun!
I did this a while ago on a Journey Mode character, getting every item researched. There was some website where I could upload my character file to see which items I was missing.
Bestiary can be torture. I just finished mine and some of the things have such specific conditions it’s a grind
Without loss of generality is bringing back bad math class memories. Though it makes more sense here than in any math situation I’ve encountered lol
I now know what beginner's luck feels like. I got a friend to try terraria with me, i knew about the waldo painting that its rare but didnt think of it to much. In that play through my friend found 2 waldo paintings almost back to back before we even entered hard mode.
The time it takes to aquire an item is probably the worst way you could have possibly quantified rarity
The rarest item is obviously the wand of sparking or finch staff when you are playing their respective classes
Spoiler for the video: it’s whatever component you’re missing for the cell phone
I didn't realize getting these rare items could be so easy if done in the right way. Very informative!
3:40 On a older version of Terraria, I once gotten that and never even intended of getting it. It came to my surprise when you mentioned it.
So, the Waldo painting in my chest that I got before Skeletron is...
Fuck yeah my guy
I had that too
is it not faster to use flower boots and golden bug net to get a golden grasshopper?
4:20 what about the chlorophyte extractinator that extractinates faster?
I forgot that existed
Probably would be rarer to get in that one since the addition of all 6 hardmode ores probably outweighs the speed benefits.
the sugar glider pet is funny, when i first started journey i got it on my first tree shake and didnt knew how rare it was
Mining helmets can be bought from the merchant rather early on, I believe.
Can't wait how obscenely difficult it will be to get the crossover pet from Palworld!
11:43 the mining helmet is purchasable from the merchant, no?
Yes, mining helmet is also a rare drop
@JoshuaMckenzie-t9vyeah but why obtain it from farming for hours when you can just... buy it?
@fry_fr because the point of the video is to show off rare drop rates in practice; not to obtain a mining helmet
@JoshuaMckenzie-t9vthe point of the video is to, and to quote the videos title "find terraria's rarest item"
@fry_frdont be like this oh my god semantics over a dumb terraria video. You are so annoying 😭
Great video from a great channel!
Dude the mining helmet can just be bought from merchant
remember there's an upgraded version of the extractinator, would speed up the amber mosquito by a lot.
4:00 SPUNK POTION? I DONT WANNA SPUNK INTO A POTION
4:00 a WHAT potion?
A spunker potion 😭
@rainesgraveyou called?
@HonneDell214WJAT
I’ve never heard of the dirtiest block till now 😭😭😭
rarest item is seedler when you tryna get zenith
*_”The rarest items in Terraria are the friends we made along the way…”_* -the Wizard
Awesome video, now do all this in masochist fargo's souls calamity infernum master mode on zenith seed
Fascinating video :0
I had to take a few breaks bc of that short background music loop but I’m hyper sensitive to that stuff so it’s probably just me 😂
Instant sub!
I still find it super funny how in my first playtrough ever after 1 hour of playing the game the slime staff dropped
I have a dog whistle and several slime staffs in a pre-hardmode world. I had no idea they were rare
bro i found a waldo painting and trashed it
5:11 i once got 2 in ten trees at the beginning of one of my play throughs
Great video. I Guess you played a journey mode character, to show the items but went for the rarity rates in a classic game, since some items on the list are vastly easier in journey mode with all the settings. Like weather dependend or (harder) to farm monster spawns. Also any grab bag item is pretty easy to get with infinite bags once you unlocked the item.
Traveling Merchant easily makes lots of items on the list so its safe to start there
I love the casual wlog and expectation value jargon. mathematician spotted in the wild
I actually got the dirtiest block^^
But it was in the zenith seed, so it was more likely to appear
i just got the yellow kite once and i did not know it was this rare (i still have it)
Using the contamination to find the dirtiest block feels like fighting a boss in dark souls without walking through the fog wall… it takes all the fun out of it.
i remember a video a while ago saying the rarest item in the game was the impact painting in the dungeon
19:55 Just put a dart trap on your mob farm.
Got a migraine from how often you abuse that pulse transition
Hiding the team block in the thumbnail with the clear bait and switch with the universal pylon is absolutely perfect. I love that detail so much
Edit: HE CHANGED THE THUMBNAIL
the pylon isnt in the thumbnail? its just a bunch of red team blocks
@crabulonbestgirl9130apparently he changed the thumbnail! Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
I saw your cool fishing video but I just wanted to tell you you're pretty rad. The terraria font is a nice touch.
The one YOU are farming for
Got this video recommended to me after I trashed a Waldo painting because my inventory was full… nice…
I got the hard saddle with a reinforced fishing rod and a enchanted nightcrawler (in a gold crate)
The dedication is crazy
I had played terreria for 2 whole years and thought I knew it all but turns out I had no idea about the universal pylon, when I first saw it in a video I 100% thought it was a mod. I had to play for like 40 hours to get it
Watching this is making me realize my most recent playthrough w a few friends has been SO INCREDIBLY LUCKY. We've gotten the slime staff, nautilus painting, halo, spiffo plush, Uzi, rod of discord, and I'm genuinely probably missing a few. It's insane because we were not actually grinding/farming for ANY of them.
The dinosaur extractinator pet is a rare one?! I got it so many times just passively during a playthrough...
You can buy the mining helmet from the merchant tho…
I have ended up finding Waldo in my first world on my xbox without even realizing he was the rarest, and now hung well up in my basic npc skyscraper
Thank you for the subtitles i remember there werent any and i couldnt understand jackshiy lmao
20:00 using my granite biome acutated hoik farm, I've gotten about 50 metal detectors, they spawn kinda crazy fast in granite biomes for some reason
2:17 TBH it was so easy to find these for me, that I depleted all of the ones in my medium size world while digging to build infrastructure
I would say the true rarest item is going to be the Gold water strider banner
Nice! I had found the waldo painting within an hour of my latest playthrough 🤣
First underground cabin pull on my last world was waldo.
i once got 2 waldo paintings back to back in a multiplayer world, probably the luckiest i've ever been
wait a second
i got the angel halo from my FIRST travelling merchant
