Totally agree re: a SUT vs a jfet step up. The SUT really does add a bit of magic to the sound that a jfet doesn’t seem to be able to necessarily do. I’ve heard a few really nice phono stages come very close, and I’m actually using one that when I heard sounded fantastic with my LOMCs.
