  • Cracked headstock is always sad, especially on guitars like this. This is really good Martin D-28 that fell of the stand. But if you act quickly and use proper technique it can be done nearly as good as new :)

    So much for the effectiveness of a volute in preventing a headstock break. It just directs the force to an unsupported area.
    Great work!

    Aesthetically, that's about as good as a headstock repair as you can get!
    Compressed air is a great way to get glue deep into a narrow crack.

    Great job! I haven't seen many breaks at the volute. It is ironic since the volute is designed to fortify the pitchback of the of the headstock. I always see breaks above or below the scarf joint. I wish there was a way to get you some GluBoost. It will save having to refinish the entire neck to conceal the repair marks. Nevertheless, it turned out awesome. Well done.

    That was awesome! I was saying to myself “how’s she going to clamp around the volute?” and then saw your frame (not sure if that’s the right term) with the volute cut out for the clamps. As someone who knows next to nothing about woodwork or guitar repair, this was especially amazing.

    Falls are always dynamic, and egregious. God bless any player who has to suffer from such.
    Back in the early-to-mid '70s, players were coming into my brother's music store with old Gibsons and Martins and Guilds, in need of new tuners ... Back in the past, makers seemed to use lower quality tuners to save money. I hand-reamed MANY a hole to instal new Grover or Schaller tuners. Using a reamer and a rattail file, I marveled at the mahogany dust that came out of those old headstocks, as it was dry as the desert. This was in Tallahassee, Florida where you would think there was plenty of moisture. However, home heaters and A/C units dried out all kinds of woods. My belief is that super dry wood is weak wood. I use a simple humidifier in the cases of my guitars with mahogany necks. Those things are bone dry in about three weeks, dependent upon time of the year (there are actually a few weeks where we do not need the heater or A/C).
    Here's my method for installing strings:
    All you have to do, is run the entire string through the post. Back it up maybe a post-and-a-half's worth. Bend the excess toward the middle of the headstock. Wind the string down like a coil (the lower on the post the string, the tighter against the nut it will be). Then bend the excess string back and forth until it breaks off cleanly. No need for clippers. No stickers to nail your fingers. However, you have to twice overwrap the string-through on the 1st and 2nd strings, otherwise, when you break off the strings, they will slip on the posts.
    Trust me. You will love having no stickers to draw blood. By bending the excess string toward the middle of the headstock, you form an "S" through the post, adding to a tight fit. Oh yeh, some nut lube on that nut will work wonders for tuning. That’s 61 years of string changing experience for you … But what’s right for you, is right for you!

    CiAo! Sei proprio brava. Mi stupisce sempre il lavoro di un bravo Liutaio ma vedere una ragazza possedere questo "Dono" dove di sicuro dietro c'è tanto studio e pratica davvero mi sbalordisce e mi fa sentire bene considerando che molti non solo donne tra i vari Tik Tok e social l'unica cosa che sanno mostrare di se è il nulla cosmico e la loro volgarità e bassa autostima e vedere una Donna magari anche bella per quel poco che si intravede mi inorgoglisce e mi fa ben sperare per il futuro. Ecco vorrei una donna cosi migliore di me. Presumo tu sia Americana e un po' mi dispiace per la distanza che ci separa altrimenti avrei di sicuro visitato e frequentato il tuo laboratorio per le mie chitarre. Un abbraccio dall'Italia: ciao Tanya! ;)

    • @TanyaShpachuk
      @TanyaShpachuk  Год назад +2

      CA is great as filler and kind of primer.
      In some cases curved neck can be "fixed" by just planning of fretboard and proper refretting, but in case of major defects or twisted neck it jus too much work and it make no sense at all))
      But if I got an occasion - I`ll make video)
