I don't really think there's a "typical American" but you two are so open to learning about other countries and other cultures and that's awesome. Definitely not fitting the stereotype😂
If you two are typical Americans, then America is in a good place. 👍 I think these videos work so well as a chat between the two of you about what you are hearing and seeing.
Ah, the big problem with THIS video is probably something you haven't thought about. The translation is way to small to read on anyone's telephone. And the dialogue is fast, so you really need to see clearly the English text.
There is a bike safety exam in 4th grade (age 9) in Berlin schools. They even have special "Jugendverkehrsschulen" (Youth traffic schools) with minature streets, street signs, crossings etc. etc. to train! Like a driver's license, but for biking.
nevertheless, they are standing there at one of the most dangerous intersections in berlin. i think the parents are standing next to them but are not shown. eberswalder straße at the corner of danziger straße. i'm already afraid to ride my bike there
Let me put European American relations in perspective with a personal story : My most loyal friend of 20+ yrs is an American, over the years we have had fierce steaming discussions. But still the man has always had my back, with deeds, not just words. Unfortunately i had to save his 2yrs ago , but i was glad i was there ( we were in a carcrash, he had a stroke whle driving) . You Can not break that bond, even if we live 4000miles apart and disagree massively on certain issues, even if his wife didnt like me at first 😂. I think of Europe and America like that. My 2 cents. 🤘❤️ So, taking into account there are pricks in any country, i think if you put an average american in a room with an average german, or even European, they will have some differences but will generally get along quite easily. The things we differ in are just a little part us, it jsut depends on how important thzt part is to you if you want to go into a deep discussion or talk shit and go for a drink. I think on both sides of the pond average people would quickly decide to get out of that room and go for a drink together. There are hundreds of videos talking about what we dislike about eachother, watched many and on many points i agree from a european standpoint. But it would be great to have a video why europe and america are and will always be eachothers best friends . Grown up friends that sometimes disagree but will always have eachothers back when it matters. 🤘❤️🇧🇪🇺🇲
It`s always good to get know different nationalities and gain personal experience. In every country there are friendly and not so friendly people in Europe .🙂
Nice video again. Sometimes people can be harsh on Americans, but video's like yours help Americans to see and learn more of the world outside the USA. Good job.
German - Swiss American! German on my father's side! Dad had to study German in college in the 1940's because he was a Chemistry major! All the important Chemistry papers were written in German! He was fortunate necause his Grandmother on his mom's side spoke fluent German! Our Swiss side came to the USA in 1812 , mom's side! Her Swiss family married inti a English family ,the Mattingley Family who came to Maryland in 1643, Catholics looking for religious freedom! 🇩🇪🇨🇭🇺🇲🌊♀️🌊♀️🌊Germany & Switzerland are both beautiful countries ! I was fortunate to have been able to travel to Europe in 1984! I strongly encourage young Americans to travel! 🇩🇪🇨🇭🇺🇲🤗
Such a really interesting video Joel your videos are just the best your really are My favourite youtuber keep up the amazing videos you make your videos really do cheer me up Joel your such a really awesome dude
Yes, guys, you're right. However, it goes even further. Not only are you paying $100.00 for a branded tee-shirt which probably cost 50c to make in some sweat shop in Bangladesh or Xinjiang, but you're actually paying to act as a walking, dancing, partying advertising tool for the brand. They should be paying you for promoting their product!! Oh, the gullibility of youth. 🤦♂️
An important statement came from you, Americans who live in Germany are cool people. I would add: everyone who leaves his own country to really learn to live in a foreign culture gets always cooler than he was before. Helps against stereotypes on all sides.
i'm german and I was a little surprised by the little girl's statements. that sounded so grown up. unfortunately, I personally haven't met an american yet.
Hi Joel, as always, first impression, average attitude or not at least view to world is connected to the environment you grew up and lived in. Three main points (concerning attitude and behaviour) which have been proven again and again and is a different to me thinking about „typical American: 1. I was shocked how often Americans I worked with were happy with sloppy results. For many it is like ... once it looks like it's completed, they close that chapter. Even though there may be still a rat-tail of problem unsolved, or things being left that others had to do then, they do consider the work done once it looks fairly ok to outsiders. Making your boss think you did a good job counts more than actually doing a good job. ….2. Besides of doing the company's work, it is not unusual also managing the house, family, partner, children or whatever from work. They hang hours at the phone and solve family problems. 3. Another example is going together for lunch. There are groups, I should call them tribes. If you belong to them and participate, that can decide about your future in the company. Different tribes have different social rankings. Or the amount of drinking together. If you don't go along (most of the time), you will not be included in their circles work-wise as well. For us Germans, these things do not determine the value of a colleague. And finally, what I would also call a typical American: once she/he left U.S. of A. and have been in contact with one/two of the other 195 countries in the world, Americans in general have higher abilities to adopt and use the advantage of new skills, knowledge and not at least view to their own life. Sitting in Kissimmee and reading a German newspaper will ensure a typical American will ask: where you’re from, please read loud, I like to hear the sound of your language! ….small talk is soooo easy in the States …. and for a German often a disappointment (due to our attitude) as we believe after having a 25min talk „see you later“ means we do so and will join for dinner…. which is, of course, not! ….but this is the incapacity of Germans to adopt others’ behaviours… for limited time (would not happen to an American).
I enjoyed this, I love the sound of German too. How about an EasyPolish episode? They have an episode about the USA too. Once you're in Berlin it's not far to go, Poland has some great cities and gorgeous countryside.
Im a german working in an american company in germany, where a lot of my colleagues are Americans. Americans always directly make you feel that you are very close to them, even if you only just met them. That for example is something which for germans, comes of as artificial, I think mainly because we are just not used to it. It also came of as very artificial for myself. Nowadays Im mostly appreciating it because it makese these first meetings very comfortable
I guess there's a big difference between the average American in America (ignorant of world geography, arrogant, thinks the USA is best at everything) and the type of American who lives or travels in Europe (more modest, aware of the USA's failings in gun control and health care etc)
I can provide some context for the "superficial". In US culture it's common to have layers of "superficial" friendliness that don't exist in Germany. One example being "how are you" and the expectation that the other person is just supposed to say "oh good". In Germany we don't ask cashiers or other people we don't know how they are, because in 90% of the cases it's an actual question you can answer. Same goes for events. I was an exchange student in the US and a friend of my host family was living in Washington D.C. and he said "You can come over any time if you want, I'll show you the city etc.". Apparently and I still have a hard time grasping this, he was just being friendly and it wasn't an offer of any kind. If a German says "you can come over to x event at my place" you can definitely come over. There is no ambiguity. There is pros and cons to both, but it's easy to see that Germans who aren't familiar with this might feel that they are being deceived to a certain extent or that the communication feels fake and superficial. On the flipside Germans might appear very rude from the US point of view, because they won't say 3 times how amazing everything was or similar.
I’m German and pretty much every American I have talked to has been very nice and easy to talk to. Germans can be kind of reserved and serious and therefore more difficult to get to know
well i know a bunch of americans over the years and they are usually fun and easy to be friends with but they are mostly surface people a good friend in good times but gone of the shit hits the fan .. good weather friends. its not that easy to make friends with germans but if you made a friend here you have a friend for life
German here 😊 I have two video suggestions for you and your friends to react to: "How watching the news in Germany is completely different than in America" - by passport two And "German food: from schnitzel to black forest gateau"-by dw euromaxx Greetings from Germany!
I’ve been in Germany many times and I see a lot of designer especially the youth is wearing lots of expensive brands like dsquared and stone island. Same with the Netherlands. I live there and almost everyone wears expensive brands.
I suggest warching episodes from the "heute show" or "Die Anstalt" with USA topics. They are in German with pretty good English captions. Or you go for TV series like "Dark" or "Barbaren"
My thoughts on Americans… Even though I’m from New Zealand, when I sing in English I sing in an American accent most of the time (Unless it’s lily Allen 😂) same with most other famous singers from other countries… I think that’s interesting..
Regarding the branded clothes mania. This was a "thing" in the late 1990's to early 2000's. Not any more. Of course there are some who feel inadequate if they don't have clothes with "names", emblazoned on them. That to me is sad, because you pay ridiculously more money for what reason? As someone has said, you are like a walking advertisement but without getting paid. But what bothers me most is not everyone can afford to buy these things, which I'm sure makes them feel left out. Other than that a great video. 😊
I don't think the girl was hurt saying Americans are superficial. It's the whole vibe as like from the media and everything (which is a lot) you "get" from America, which is very superficial and many Americans have this vibe.
I like your reviews. They are very balanced and rational, which sadly become the exception. The only thing that irritates me is the finger snap and "peace" sign at the end. First of all, it is a Victory sign, not a peace sign. Secondly, we are in the 21st century, not in the 60's and 70s of the previous century. Anyway, keep it up. I will continue watching, with or without "peace".
I don’t know if the Americans are ignorant, but these people definitely were. Does they know, that Germany also has the atomic bomb? And when he said “i would like to be a cool person“, she responded “good luck with that” what in Germany means, you will never achieve that. Super mean!
Visible brand lettering (the bigger, the worse) tends to devalue the product for many germans and is viewed as “cheap”. As a (german) customer I would feel stupid; as a kind of "useful idiot". I pay a lot of money for a product and then I'm supposed to work as free advertising space? No, thanks. I think most Germans see smaller labels, good designers, individuality, high-quality materials and workmanship as realy “luxurious”.
That dude with the hat.. i think i may be able to explain something about that. This man appeared to notice that the person asking the question is american. Picture this.. The german with the hat is relativley old.. he most likley does not know english.. he attacked (kind of) the interviewer to not "lose" his face.. that is also why he said "faceless" cause he could not look him into his face to not give away something that could influence the way the outside sees him. (saving face) i think it was a reaction that came from shame. attacking and shaming before being shamed himself you could say. this is a way to deal with things i think around the world.. it was unfortunate maybe that he ran into that guy.. cause generally people especially in big cities in europe are really open and welcoming. you heard a lot about the nukes.. well that is something we truly care about... we want safety for everybody. (and self responsabilty [thinking bout those playgrounds ;D]) Love Your Chanel Lots of Love from Austria
Well... I grew up in the part of Germany that was part of the American zone. My immediate surroundings were swarming with American troops, including helicopters. Normally there were little to no problems. But then occasionally things happened that gave you chills during the Cold War, such as the practice of digging mass graves. Then there were also incidents where you could only wrap your head around it. In the past, US soldiers' cars had bright green license plates. Of course you could easily recognize them. As a 16-year-old, I was walking past the main post office in my district town when I casually noticed a light blue VW Beetle with an American registration. I saw it quite often and it wasn't anything special. As I walked past, I casually glanced inside the VW and stopped dead in my tracks. In the back seat were at least half a dozen M-16 assault rifles. Thoughts were racing in my head... Should I report this to the German police? Because one thing was completely clear! There was almost no car that was easier to crack than a VW Beetle. And one in 5 Germans knew exactly how to do it! I ultimately decided against it. Because it could well be that the American was only in the post office for a few minutes doing something. And I didn't want to cause the soldier any trouble because of it. But what an improvidence and carelessness in the use of military weapons...
Again, the subtitles are so small to read, but since I can't read German, I have to try to read the English translations of the subtitles, which are impossibly small! 🙄😑 can you switch to full screen for the parts where you aren't speaking? I know it'll take longer for you to edit, but there's no point in me trying to watch your post if I can't understand it. Thanks!
I'm from the U.S. living in Deutschland and I tell my German husband to NOT speak English to me in public so people don't know I'm 'murrican lol. Es ist peinlich! 😅It's a running joke.
You two are very fine cultured young Americans. But it is difficult to characterize the average American. It's the same when some English fans come to Europe and start causing problems everywhere. Americans are similar to that. It bothers people in Europe. We are not the same people and the same culture. Americans cannot be the world's policemen everywhere.
5:40 You said in another video, that leaving a child outside in America is like a child is gone. Why is this in America? I, as a Georgian (country), our children are not independent, as in Germany, but no one will harm a child on the street. And we also give alcohol to children. We drink wine, not the beer like Germans. But for example, we never give coffee to children 😂Idiocy, of course. Alcohol is not good
Hello Joel and pal. Describe 300 million people in a short sentence. I reckon if you only saw US tourists, unused to anywhere but US, you would think totally different to if you went to US, away from tourist spots there. What would the kid in this make of Ben or Ben him?
At first ... for me canadians are also americans so i its much more difficult to answer this question 😂 Stereotypes are bullshit ! Thats out of question ... but everyone is prejudiced thats also a fact ! This brand thing you talking about is intressting ... I remember this 'brand behaviourl' and the bullying go with it at school. back in the days the american brands pop up here ... whatever ! Do you know Germans say Americans sounds like they chewing gum 😂 ? That's why these guy make this weird sounds 😉 lol But it sounds better than UK english LMAO the kid are right 👍btw Irish english is verrry hard to understand ... holy 😮 Last but not least my american stereotype is a extreme contrast. on one hand educated, open minded, cosmopolitan, interested in culture and so on ... on the other hand the exact opposite ! Like i think the US are. an extrem contrast in it self ! Like a typically american look like ?🤔 album cover - fat boy slim - You've come a long way baby ! 😂🤣 Peace ✌
Being superficial is more about lack of depth / awareness . As a generalization ‘tis probably true 😬🤫. So sad, given that Americans invented cool !! WTF happened!?
Murica used to be great as a European i really love old American muscle cars Movies and music in 90's and 2000's The only problem to be solved was racism.... Look at US now - chemicals in food that are banned in 160 other countries LGBT fashion treding. Homelesness problem Gun violence Police brutality and lack of training Going from rudest president ever to dummest president ever Movies - put a chick in it and make it gay Healthcare cost The best is to compare US to other large countries and then you can see they doing pretty well compared to India,China,Russia don't take it as insult - bad food quality and corrupt politics is a problem our country has too we all are humain beings and we are all the same . the only differences are where we live - different goverment system , different culture and enviroment create different mindsets I will always remember US for what it used to be , not for what is it now.
@@gunchar06 then it shouldn't be a problem pointing those points out and do some constructive critique of my comment. If i'm wrong please correct me. i don't get mad about it.
@@gunchar06 No answer ? I just want to know what was the absolute nonsense that i said... So if you do not have a argument why do you writte comment like that ?
I don't really think there's a "typical American" but you two are so open to learning about other countries and other cultures and that's awesome. Definitely not fitting the stereotype😂

The translation is way to small to read on anyone's telephone.
And the dialogue is fast, so you really need to see clearly the English text.
😂😂 sure is.in liberal hands 🤭
I lived in Germany for 2 years and they're some of the nicest people I've ever met.
As a german I love americans for their positive support for others.
Many germans are very critical.
Yeah but usually the criticism is constructive. Most people won't criticise you just to tear you down.
If more Americans were like you two. It would be a better place. Hi from North Wales. UK.
GreAYTE mAYTE
dude its so heart warming for me as a german seeing u admiring our country :)
Great job guys!! Super way to start this week. German is indeed a nice sounding language, spoken and sung.

Surprised nobody said 'loud'.
There is no typical American and no typical German. Everyone is individual and unique.
There is typical,i know what you Meaning bit this means the Nations and there are typicals for everyone country

i'm german and I was a little surprised by the little girl's statements. that sounded so grown up.
unfortunately, I personally haven't met an american yet.
As an American, I love Germany and look forward to spending Holiday there in June next year ❤I’d move there if i could convince my husband to go
Hi Joel, as always, first impression, average attitude or not at least view to world is connected to the environment you grew up and lived in.
Three main points (concerning attitude and behaviour) which have been proven again and again and is a different to me thinking about „typical American:
1. I was shocked how often Americans I worked with were happy with sloppy results. For many it is like ... once it looks like it's completed, they close that chapter. @adlerdeszeus - after reading your no. 1 paragraph, I immediately thought of Boeing and the recent debacle with their 737 Max 9 aircraft.
Haha I love the title of this video. Feels like a loop.
Arturo is gorgeous.
So true! 🙂
bro, thats homophilic!
Both of them are gorgeous and intelligent.
11:47 Americans failing geography tests is a subgenre unto itself
Interesting re the brand thing. I'm a Brit and go out of my way to avoid wearing clothes with brands on. Flaunting wealth is horrible IMO.
How do you feel about the royal family?
The only branded things Joel should wear are those inspired by the channel which is always nice to see lol
Weve got history, youve got Hollywood, is what they say 😂
...and Hollywood distorts our history in their favour.
I enjoyed this, I love the sound of German too. How about an EasyPolish episode? They have an episode about the USA too. Once you're in Berlin it's not far to go, Poland has some great cities and gorgeous countryside.

I'm so sick of hearing about gun control & health care!🙄

Hello and greetings from germany

That's so shallow.

Hi from New Zealand where the hobbits live… although I’m 6foot tall but I’m drunk so who cares 😂😂😂😂
I don't think the girl was hurt saying Americans are superficial. It's the whole vibe as like from the media and everything (which is a lot) you "get" from America, which is very superficial and many Americans have this vibe.
I gave up on this one as I don't speak German and the subtitles are too small to read.
Well... 2 suggestions: Learn German, or buy a pair of glasses, which is the cheaper and faster solution, to your Problem...
I like your reviews. They are very balanced and rational, which sadly become the exception. The only thing that irritates me is the finger snap and "peace" sign at the end. I think most Germans see smaller labels, good designers, individuality, high-quality materials and workmanship as realy “luxurious”.
jesus, the jawline on that guy
most germans don't care in brands german greetings
That dude with the hat..
i think i may be able to explain something about that.
This man appeared to notice that the person asking the question is american.
Picture this..
The german with the hat is relativley old.. he most likley does not know english..
he attacked (kind of) the interviewer to not "lose" his face..
that is also why he said "faceless" cause he could not look him into his face to not give away something that could influence the way the outside sees him. (saving face)
i think it was a reaction that came from shame. attacking and shaming before being shamed himself you could say.
this is a way to deal with things i think around the world.. it was unfortunate maybe that he ran into that guy.. cause generally people especially in big cities in europe are really open and welcoming.
you heard a lot about the nukes.. well that is something we truly care about... we want safety for everybody. (and self responsabilty [thinking bout those playgrounds ;D])

I love Americans :) But please do not vote for Trump. Thanks a lot :)
Where from the us are you guys from?
this video is from 2014 so some things might have changed!
Yep! The impression that Trump left behind, made it far better, didn't it...?
Visit in september the US and i will take a look how americans are 😂
I grow up in West Berlin, british sector, and enjoy the allies here. 👍
I prefer not to express myself about Americans, I wouldn't have nice things to say.
Also not a fan of guns
Geschichtslos doesn't mean exactly "With no history".... it means "They don't learn from their history"
Ja... Der alte Herr, hat sein Wort schlecht gewählt in aller Eile. Er hätte "geschichtsvergessen" benutzen sollen...
Rude. Obnoxious, Loud, ignorant - no., well maybe sometimes. But you will get that anywhere. The "Yanks" I have met have heart of gold. All the best.😁
Thanks!
Yes, I gave up watching.
Are you watching on full screen?
@@jarrodglover2311 Yes, but I only have a phone to watch on.
@@carolmurphy7572 That's sad...
I'm from the U.S. living in Deutschland and I tell my German husband to NOT
speak English to me in public so people don't know I'm 'murrican lol. Es ist peinlich! 😅It's a running joke.
When you ask a "typical" German what is a "typical" american, you get that ridiculous video. 😂
At first ... for me canadians are also americans so i its much more difficult to answer this question 😂
Stereotypes are bullshit !
That's why these guy make this weird sounds 😉 lol
But it sounds better than UK english LMAO the kid are right 👍btw Irish english is verrry hard to understand ... holy 😮
Last but not least my american stereotype is a extreme contrast. on one hand educated, open minded, cosmopolitan, interested in culture and so on ... on the other hand the exact opposite ! Like i think the US are. an extrem contrast in it self ! Like a typically american look like ?🤔 album cover - fat boy slim - You've come a long way baby ! 😂🤣
Peace ✌

Being superficial is more about lack of depth / awareness . As a generalization ‘tis probably true 😬🤫. So sad, given that Americans invented cool !! WTF happened!?

If the americans vote for Trump ..... I cannot understand theese people... i am proud to be European !!!
Why are most of you using the word "like" every few words while talking.
You should move to Germany!
Mostly we love you for the movies but more we hate your war politicians.

Murica used to be great as a European i really love old American muscle cars
Movies and music in 90's and 2000's
The only problem to be solved was racism....
Look at US now - chemicals in food that are banned in 160 other countries
LGBT fashion treding.
Homelesness problem
Gun violence
Police brutality and lack of training
Going from rudest president ever to dummest president ever
Movies - put a chick in it and make it gay
Healthcare cost
The best is to compare US to other large countries and then you can see they doing pretty well compared to India,China,Russia
don't take it as insult - bad food quality and corrupt politics is a problem our country has too
we all are humain beings and we are all the same . the only differences are where we live - different goverment system , different culture and enviroment create different mindsets
I will always remember US for what it used to be , not for what is it now.
Confusing your nostalgia for an illusion with reality is already bad enough, but multiple of these points are also absolute nonsense on top of it...
@@gunchar06 then it shouldn't be a problem pointing those points out and do some constructive critique of my comment.
If i'm wrong please correct me. i don't get mad about it.
Kid, do me a favor... Don't use Murcia! In fact, Murcia a nice city in Spain, founded by Carthaginians, 2500 years ago...
@@gunchar06 No answer ?
I just want to know what was the absolute nonsense that i said...
So if you do not have a argument why do you writte comment like that ?
What to say about US Americans, if I see on the one hand side RUclipsr like you, that look around in the world and on the other hand MAGA-people.
this kid was an annoying smart ass kid.
Sehe ich auch so. Total nervig.
no. I do not think so.
Definitely a more american personality than other German kids.
Diese Umfrage war komplett uninformativ 👎👎 Lächerlich 🖖
I rather see a big screen of translation than your face just think how do you expect people to understand what’s all this about it?
