Cocaine can be faceplanted into Scarface style without too much risk of going into immediate OD coma by it's regular users. When Vincent bought the stuff, his dealer said "I'm out of balloons, is a baggie ok?" and Vince gave him the green light. Mia saw the drugs in a bag, assumed it be cocaine due to it not being in a balloon, and as a habitual user of cocaine took a massive bump which she was likely used to doing. Result being her body almost instantly entering a state of being practically dead.
The timeline of it all after she snorts it isn’t really clear, but I think it’s also probable that she could’ve survived. Obviously it depends on how much she snorted and how much time there was between ingestion to when she got the shot of adrenaline. As far as I’m aware, generally when people OD on opioids they start by nodding off shortly after ingestion, then their system slowly shuts down as their nervous system slows until their breathing stops and their brain is no longer getting oxygen. I think the other big risk, beyond the drugs themselves, is the risk of choking on your own spit or vomit because your body is too weakened to protect itself from choking, and you’re too out of it to do anything to help yourself. It seems to happen a bit faster these days whenever there’s fentanyl involved because it’s so much stronger than traditional heroin, but that wouldn’t have been an issue in the time when the film is set. Obviously it could definitely be mixed up, but I sure would not call them indistinguishable
The only time heroin is in ballons is during transport if you have 2 swallow them. Atleast since the 2000s. Their in either plastic bags or wrapped in wax paper. And they realli dnt look alike at all compared to coke unless that shit got stomped on to hell

The only rationalization I have for this is self preservation/risk assessment. A hitman won't normally kill random people so most people will never have to worry about one. But a drunk driver most people do have to worry about so it's more of a real threat to most people.

So Heroin doesn't exactly make you pass out, depending on the dose, but you definitely shouldn't drive. The "Pass Out" you are referring to is known as a "Nod". It is when you are so medicated or high that you are between awake and dreaming. It's an extremely pleasurable state to be in, however "Nodding" is essentially being on the brink of death. If you are "Nodding" then you probably aren't breathing enough and your heart is beating slow. When Vincent Vega was driving and walking around Mia's house, he was essentially as inebriated as if he had taken 6 or 7 shots of vodka in terms of motor coordination and competency. PS. I do not condone the use of illegal drugs. If you take illegal drugs, your doctor should be made aware of this. I strongly recommend that, if you are an addict, you accept any and all Treatment offered. There are healthy ways to stop taking certain drugs.

heroin also was developed as pain killer as a more harmless variant to morphin or asperin and especially good for children and pregnant women as it had no addiction xD it was made by BAYER and i think it was taken orally and the crazy effects just came later when someone injected it but why would anyone do that xD

I read somewhere that the Coen brothers, who've directed both comedies like Raising Arizona, and darker films like Miller's Crossing, said it's easy to get the tone right. For comedies, you use a wide angle lens on the camera, and the actors don't wear hats. For dramas, you use a longer lens on the camera, and the actors wear hats. Really, it's that simple! 😀

The 40's movie Kiss Me Deadly had a glowing suitcase. Tarantino has references to older movies in his movies. The rectangle and not a square is a reference to the Flintstones, where Pebbles meant square but did a rectangle. A 5 dollar shake is common today, but the movie is from 1994 so the joke had dated.
The announcer to the dance contest was impersonating ED SULLIVAN in the late 50s through the 60s, he had the leading variety talk show in the US. If you watched David Letterman or Stephen Colbert they both host the Late Show in the Ed Sullivan Theatre, (Where the Beatles got their American debut).
Played by the late Jerry Hoban. He used to do Ed Sullivan impersonations for a Beatles tribute band called The Fab Four that my parents were friends with and did merch for sometimes so I met him a few times, he was a good guy. At that point in time he was the only Ed Sullivan impersonator that was officially recognized by the Ed Sullivan estate.
This was a game changer in cinema when I saw it back in 94. It's still impressive in its storytelling nearly 30 years on and is always in my Top 3 films of all time. Great reaction!

It's just that the movie drips tension and that there's a real weight and threat of violence. And it's that remembered feeling that makes us misremember it all.

Yeah opiate addicts need it to BE functional. Anyone could know an addict IRL and not even realize it because it's literally what gets them out of bed, so they don't feel sick. Sure doing too much will make someone damn near comatose but I don't think that's the goal of most addicts, they just want to feel normal.

In the scene where Col Landa is killing Brigit Von Hammerskirch, the close up scenes of her being choked are Tarentino's hands. Apparently Christoph Waltz, although a great actor, was not a convincing strangler.
It's easy to miss if you're not familiar with drug culture, but the reason Mia confuses the heroin for cocaine is because it's in a baggie rather than a balloon, which is how heroin is normally stored. Fun Fact: The actor who plays Lance, Eric Stoltz, was the original casting choice for Marty McFly in Back to the Future; Michael J. Fox was their first, but he was unavailable due to scheduling conflicts with a sitcom he starred in at the time, Family Ties. Supposedly, the movie was about 95% done filming, when they were filming the scene where Marty punches Biff, but Eric actually hit him because he'd gone method for the role. He was ultimately fired and they had to reshoot the entire movie with Michael J. Fox. Also, $5 shake would be equal to approximately a $10 shake today.

I am late to this party, but Quentin Tarantino is in Inglorious Basterds. He is the first German soldier you see getting scalped, and he appears in the background of the cinema scene as a Nazi officer, as does Enzo G. Castellari, the director of the original "The Inglorious Bastards"
I never did heroin but I knew someone who did. You build up a tolerance and you can get the effects from it without passing out. Vincent is obviously a long time addict so ordinarily he'd probably have no trouble driving. It's just that this time he bought some especially potent stuff so he's a bit out of it. That purchase also has consequences when Mia finds it. Edit: The dealer even apologized for putting the heroin in a baggy. A lot of little details in this movie wind up having ramifications later.

I read somewhere that the Coen brothers, who've directed both comedies like Raising Arizona, and darker films like Miller's Crossing, said it's easy to get the tone right. For comedies, you use a wide angle lens on the camera, and the actors don't wear hats. For dramas, you use a longer lens on the camera, and the actors wear hats. Really, it's that simple! 😀
Roughly speaking, the whole "Fox Force Five" thing is part of the premise for Kill Bill.
It's not. That's just a rumour that people went nuts with. Even though Tarantino and uma came up with the first idea of kill bill when working on pulp fiction the fox force five stuff was already a thing.
Except in Kill Bill, two of the five were male.
And they weren't really secret agents, but assassins.

The announcer to the dance contest was impersonating ED SULLIVAN in the late 50s through the 60s, he had the leading variety talk show in the US. If you watched David Letterman or Stephen Colbert they both host the Late Show in the Ed Sullivan Theatre, (Where the Beatles got their American debut).
Played by the late Jerry Hoban. He used to do Ed Sullivan impersonations for a Beatles tribute band called The Fab Four that my parents were friends with and did merch for sometimes so I met him a few times, he was a good guy. At that point in time he was the only Ed Sullivan impersonator that was officially recognized by the Ed Sullivan estate.
This was a game changer in cinema when I saw it back in 94. It's still impressive in its storytelling nearly 30 years on and is always in my Top 3 films of all time. Great reaction!

Everyone remembers this movie as being a really violent movie. But the reality is that there are only a small handful of actual, real violent scenes.
It's just that the movie drips tension and that there's a real weight and threat of violence. And it's that remembered feeling that makes us misremember it all.

Yeah opiate addicts need it to BE functional. Anyone could know an addict IRL and not even realize it because it's literally what gets them out of bed, so they don't feel sick. Sure doing too much will make someone damn near comatose but I don't think that's the goal of most addicts, they just want to feel normal.
His usage, however, was advanced to the point it was affecting his work (moments of idiocy that are otherwise alien to his peers), and his judgements eventually got him killed.

He's a regular user. It's why he functions well on it and can drive on it. It's also why he is in the bathroom a ton. You can't go to the bathroom (1 or 2) on heroin. It weakens all those nerves so they don't work. You definitely still wanna pee but it requires a TON of concentration. And you never even have the urge to crap.

This is a special movie. The first date with my wife was seeing Pulp Fiction when if first came out in theaters followed up with Chuck E Cheese! Still married today.

To fans of sci-fi and fantasy in particular (perhaps horror as well) pulp fiction was a lifeline to the stories and worlds they loved and the term is more one of affection.

Another term was Penny Dreadfuls which was because the books cost s penny and were dreadful in either writing or subject matter or both.

I watched this movie so many times in my teens without really understanding a lot about it (like, "I never saw that there was sexual tension between Mia and Vincent" lot) that I find it hard to watch now over the shame of how dumb a teen I was. But it's a really good one and it launched (or relaunched) a lot of actors' careers. I also get inordinately happy every time Simone identifies an actor.

In the scene where Col Landa is killing Brigit Von Hammerskirch, the close up scenes of her being choked are Tarentino's hands. Apparently Christoph Waltz, although a great actor, was not a convincing strangler.

It's easy to miss if you're not familiar with drug culture, but the reason Mia confuses the heroin for cocaine is because it's in a baggie rather than a balloon, which is how heroin is normally stored. When Vincent buys the drugs earlier, Lance says, "I'm out of balloons, is a baggie okay?" Mia overdosing is the payoff to that.

Kill Bill 1 & 2 are a must see. It’s a big story, with a lot of interesting characters and a very cool vibe with a great soundtrack. And some sweet action.

It's hard to believe but at the time John Travolta had been experiencing a BIG BIG slump in his career. This movie was the restart to his popularity. It also created excitement because this showed John Travolta dancing again. Remember at the time his most famous movie say Saturday Night Fever.

When I was a kid growing up in the 50s and 60s every drug store, dime store, newspaper stand had a section of magazines usually referred to as pulp fiction. They were usually action packed, sometimes a little salacious and were printed on the cheapest of the cheap paper made from wood pulp.
Fun Fact: The actor who plays Lance, Eric Stoltz, was the original casting choice for Marty McFly in Back to the Future; Michael J. Fox was their first, but he was unavailable due to scheduling conflicts with a sitcom he starred in at the time, Family Ties. Supposedly, the movie was about 95% done filming, when they were filming the scene where Marty punches Biff, but Eric actually hit him because he'd gone method for the role. He was ultimately fired and they had to reshoot the entire movie with Michael J. Fox.
Also, $5 shake would be equal to approximately a $10 shake today.

Fun fact: a “pulp fiction” is a particular style of book. They’re usually cheap paperbacks that you find in the grocery store or in the airport. A good example of pulp fiction would be a louie lamour western novel, or one of those cheap romance novels. The genius of this movie is that it’s a literal adaptation of a true crime noir style pulp fiction. Typically in those books, the story line isn’t linear. Your introduced to the character in the chapters and their paths may cross on different time lines, but by the end of the book it all kinda comes together. This movie is a masterpiece. Still taught in film schools to this day.

The name comes from pulp comics or pulp magazines. Weekly stories kinda like comic books. The editing chpice was because when you would buy these magazines you wouldn't always get the story in a linear fashion. Sometimes you'd get the last chapter first or get the middle.

My old drummer was a heroine user and I didn't even know. People can function on heroin. Many do pass out. It depends on the dosage and how it's used. It also depends on the person. The guy I knew, worked construction during the day and played music at night. So, apparently, it can be done. Another thing is that this character has money, so he can get the good stuff. Many people pass out or OD from using dope cut with weird stuff or that was made cheaply because that's all they can afford. And, yeah. If you snorted that much smack, you would likely die.

I never did heroin but I knew someone who did. You build up a tolerance and you can get the effects from it without passing out. Vincent is obviously a long time addict so ordinarily he'd probably have no trouble driving. It's just that this time he bought some especially potent stuff so he's a bit out of it. That purchase also has consequences when Mia finds it. Edit: The dealer even apologized for putting the heroin in a baggy. A lot of little details in this movie wind up having ramifications later.
On your road trip playlist, just do an entire Tarantino catalog. His movies have the BEST soundtracks.
