At my orthodontist I saw a women 50 years old getting braces!!! Lol (they were rainbow) a lot of people get them later if they couldn't afford then when they were a kid or some other reason. I have them right now and I'm 12 so I'll get them off before her age hopefully my friends is 12 too and has to have them on for 8YEARS!
In my country people under 18 years old get their braces done for free, or at least we don't have to pay for them. I'm 14 and i wear them, i just thought it where like that everywhere

I drink fizzy drinks and chew gum :) it doesn't really do anything to your braces so it will be fine.
