      I don't blame you for posting the video...what happened happened. But posting your outrage along with "lifetime ban" while ignoring that this is not an unprecedented issue is fueling the social media mob, most of whom know nothing about hockey or its penalties.

    I never comment on youtube videos unless it's someone I know. But I gotta say, watching this video.. you absolutely did the right thing in posting it. I couldn't believe what I was watching. If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have believed it. That kid is absolutely lucky he didn't cut the neck of the player he was kicking, or do more damage with his kicks. That third kick in particular didn't look like he kicked with the toe of his boot, but rather the blade which is just.. incredibly f'ing reckless.
    Second, I'm sure the player that did the kicking felt bad about it the second he got off the ice, but the lifetime ban is absolutely 100% the right call. You shouldn't feel bad at all. If that kid didn't receive a lifetime ban for that, then I just don't know what. And the people sending this kid and his team death threats.. like, f'ing grow up. His actions don't nullify your actions or justify your reaction. He's facing the consequences.
    I'm glad the player on the ice is okay, and it's even crazier knowing the context that it was a 5 on 3 and this player did that to another player, down on the ice. I still can't believe it. This vid is especially better than just the short. I love it. I think you did fine with posting it.

    Banned from minor hockey is enough. When he's an adult and playing beer league, he can figure out the right way and wrong way to do things.

    Way back in the "dark ages" of the 1970's, I had seasons tickets for a junior hockey team called the New Westminster Bruins. They were known as the "Big Bad Bruins" and they lived up to their names. In 5 years of watching them, I saw hundreds of 1 on 1 fights, at least 2 dozen line brawls and probably 8 or so major brawls that included multiples of fights going on at the same time. Of course, it was the seventies and that's the way hockey was then, if there wasn't a fight in a game it was a rare aberation. During those years, they won the league championship 4 straight years and went to the Memorial Cup Final 4 straight years, losing the first 2 but winning the next 2. At the time, we loved every minute of it but, looking back, it was pretty damn barbaric that they allowed that and much worse over the years. There was a Bruin called Boris Fistric who was their main goon, that in a brawl against the Victoria Cougars I think it was, had a player down on the ice with his head between Fistrics knees and Boris was bouncing up and down bashing his head into the ice. That was undoubtedly the worst thing I ever saw any player do to another one intentionally.

      @@pookie2986 Dude, there's endless places this kid can play hockey that are outside of pro and semi pro hockey that have no scouts or recruiting. Sure, he probably can't play professional hockey in the future, but he wasn't going to anyway.

    I think you did the right thing, and I’ll explain why I’m my opinion. There are 2 main reasons I see this as a good thing, 1) regardless of if you posted it or not, someone would have, it’s something that is so outrageous that it has absolutely no place in the sport, people should spread awareness of moments like this. 2) by sharing this you can spread awareness to things like this, I’m not saying that we should share every little thing that happens, but things as significant as this need to be shared so people can know that while we all make jokes, like barber makes some jokes about hitting refs or hitting people like it was other sports, we need to remember it’s just jokes and we play a sport where we have sharp blades attached to our feet that could cause people serious damage. I really hope that the kid who was kicked is okay, and I also really hope the kid who did the kicking will learn and grow from his mistakes and can become a better human.

    Nope you did the right thing, actions have consequences. As a coach i was involved in a kicking incident very similar to this. The most embarrassing thing about its was how the parents justified the actions of their daughter. Yes I said "daughter", it was a girls game. As the coach I did not want the player back but the state and our organization had a different opinion. Actions have consequences and if we get away from that what are we really doing?

    100% right thing. There’s hockey plays that turn into scrums or fights and then this. This is a deliberate act of violence that absolutely warrants a ban from the league and to be reviewed. Kicking someone with what can be compared to a steel toe boot with a blade on the bottom is outright dangerous and could possibly have killed him. The attacker needs to learn there r consequences and I rly hope that everyone that has seen this can take a lesson from this that actions have consequences and what not to do not just in hockey but in general.

  • @chasm9557
    @chasm9557 Год назад +1

    As someone whose worked with kids for quite a few years, his actions are his own responsibility. HE made the decision to kick someone in the head while wearing skates and not you. He deserves to be banned because he's proven he's a danger to others and he also deserves those assault charges because of how dangerous those actions were. I'm perfectly aware that there is much more physical agression in hockey than in most other team sports, but there are still hard limits on what you can do for a reason.

    Stuff like this needs to come to light, always, and be dealt with. Right thing. I also hate to see a kid banned - it means he doesn't get a second chance to learn from his error - at the same time, his actions were at a level that could easily have caused very serious injury.

    TBH I'm not a fan of hyperbolic YT comment sections where people clutch their pearls & act like they're horrified by largely benign events.....but this isn't one of those sections. This video was legit disturbing & I can't explain how relieved I am to know the kid on the ice is alright.
    Kicking someone w/your skates on is not something where you can say "Ah he's just a kid who made a mistake". Teenagers are emotional, I get that. And I can understand throwing a punch, slashing an opponent in the back of the leg, hell maybe even spearing someone in the nuts. But this was so unbelievably dangerous, reckless & uncalled for. I mean one wrong move & this could have gone from a RUclips video to a LiveLeak video VERY easily.
    Bottom line, I'm glad the victim is OK, I'm glad the perpetrator didn't ruin his life by killing an opponent in a fit of rage & I'm glad the victim has teammates who raced to stick up for him immediately. This should be a teaching moment for all coaches & parents.
