I have owned the GC 0.68 and the 0.84. I still have the 0.84 and I use it on a regular basis. In my opinion it is one of the best razors on the market and is an amazing razor. I love its low profile and the smoothness is unmatched. I have considered getting the 0.76 and the 1.05 plates for mine, but I love the 0.84 so much I'm still undecided on what to do. Good video, thanks for recognizing an extreme value like the Game Changer.
I always like it when I see RazoRock getting some love, they deserve it. I own the .68, .76, .84 Game changer razors and the .76 is my sweet spot. This is an excellent razor at and excellent price and the machining looked great. Great Company and great video Jon !
Jon, having spoken to you in the past, I was not surprised to see your positive review of the GC w/.76 plate. Like you, I've owned the GC with both the .68 and .84 plates...found the .68 a bit too mild and the .84, while giving a great shave, was a bit too harsh for my liking (no cuts with the .84, but too aggressive). I received the .76 a few weeks ago and after using it for the first time, left no doubt that it was likely number 1, tied with my Overlander and CB (w/'C' SB). Giving some thought about new wet shavers, I do wanna say that I originally started with an EJ DE86 and am not sure if starting with the GC would've given me the same appreciation for the GC that I have now or not. However at $54.99 you're not throwing away your money! All the best and keep up the great videos....Charlie.
Total agreement for the Game Changer. The 0.84 is without doubt, my favorite DE. Yaqi used to be competitive with Razorock with price point but no more.
Great vid! I got one in last week, and have enjoyed putting it through the paces. It does feel like it hits that “sweet spot” of performance for a simple daily driver.
I recently purchased their new open comb BBS razor. I really enjoy it. Along with their SuperSlant. I've got a GC .84-P and love it. If I had to get rid of all razors except one, that would be the one I keep. I very much enjoy all my other RazoRock stuff.
I really like the gamechanger 0.68. I tried the Mamba first but for me the optimal shaving angle on the Mamba just felt off. The Gamechanger had similar mild feel but just felt better shaving for me. I also use Razorocks longer Titanium handle on mine. The Value is definately outstanding.
I’ve tried a shim in my .68 GC and it still didn’t seem like enough efficiency so I was reluctant to try the .76 plate. I think the .84 I would enjoy more but I’d have to try someone’s to warrant getting it. Worried I won’t like the blade feel of the .84 plate.
Tell me, how does stubble grow after this razor? Shaving is like a velvet Gillette tech, after which the stubble is not prickly and grows for a long time?
Razorock razors offer the best value in a DE Safety razor without a doubt. My 34C got sidelined after buying the GC .84 with the Bulldog handle. The 34C is too mild for me, even with a Feather blade. That said, the .84 is a tad too efficient for my somewhat sensitive face, so it leaves me with a few weepers after 2 passes and a bit of polishing. Not a big deal, but I’ve just orders the .68 and .76 baseplates to try. I have a feeling that the .76 baseplate will be “the one”. The other razors that I was considering are: EJ 3one6, Feather AS-D2, and the Rockwell 6S. I decided to go for the Razorback being it offers the best value, and flexibility than the others. Rockwell has has some QC issues, and the Feather is very expensive with no baseplate options, and being the GC razors are CNC milled from 316 SS, it’s a no brainer. CNC milled products have way tighter tolerance from what I’ve read.
I used to own the GC 0.68 and thought it was "okay." I tried both the SB and Open Comb and found the OC to be too aggressive to me while the SB was decent, but a bit scratchy to me. I also owned the BBS Razor and that one was better for me, but it still had a tad bit of aggression that I wasn't too crazy about...however it was more usable than the GC for me. At the end of last year, however, I picked up a Mamba 0.70 and it is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. It only has a .01 mm blade exposure or less, so it is very close to neutral in blade exposure and it has been the best shaving RR razor for my skin and skin type. I think the mostly neutral blade exposure really makes things better for my shaves overall and it is just a very awesome addition to my shave den. @soapthing did a comparison between the GC 0.68 and the Mamba 0.70 and preferred the Mamba, so that's what led me to pick it up and I prefer his recommendations on the Mamba.
@@LatherhogI have the GC .68 & .76 with UFO handle and the Mamba 70 with the bull dog handle. I like them all but if I had to keep only one, the Mamba would be my pick. It pairs well with more blades and has easier to clean lather channels. Thanks for the review
I haven't owned the GC 68 in awhile, but based off memory, it would be the equivalent of the 3 or 4 plate. The 76 has the efficiency of the 6 plate, but with less blade feel. Finally the 86 has both more blade feel and efficiency than any of the Rockwell plates. Hope that helps!
The GC looks really cool, I almost ordered one last year. Not sure how I feel about the loading/securing the blade on the base plate instead of the top cap. Seems like a strange design choice.
There are other razors that have that same bottom-loading design. It's really not tricky and I wouldn't let that aspect dissuade you from trying this razor!
Hi Jon, Do you find it awkward loading the blade because of the way the top cap is set (with the two posts in the baseplate, instead of the cap)? Thanks for another informative video.
@@Latherhog Although I'll always love a good mild shave (34C, vintage super speed flair tip), I've been gravitating towards more efficient razors lately. I like my Rockwell on the 6 plate. I like the shaves I get out of my R41, although sometimes that blade exposure is just a tad stress-inducing 😆 So maybe something efficient with only moderate blade feel?

That makes sense, if you're enjoying the .84, there's no reason to replace it! What handle did you choose for your Game Changer razor?

Hey Charlie, I think I’m going to agree with you that for a beginner, the .68 Game Changer really is the way to go.

The .84 plate on the GC has no blade feel. It is teflon smooth and almost feels bladeless.
I think you'd like the .76 or .84 as that's exactly how I felt about the .68 GC.
I just got my game change .76 and it is the best razor I’ve ever owned and I own them all.
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the razor!
I have the .84, it Rocks.

Hi Jon, musta? How do you compare base plates 68, 76 & 84 to that of Rockwell 6S plates? Thanks

How it compares to razorock lupo ?
I also have the Lupo .58 and .72. They are great razors also, but they have more blade feel than the GC's.

Did Razorock change the Super Knurled Handle? I could swear mine looked different
They might have, I've had this particular Super Knurled handle for a few years now.
Hello good morning Godbless you always and your family. Whats your best face shaver til now . Your truly and honest answer. I shave every other day.
My favorite for the past two years has been the Blackland Blackbird titanium.

@@Latherhog I just learned about the Apex by Aylsworth and ordered it instead of the GC. I have my eyes on the Lupo before trying the GC ;)
Hi Jon, Do you find it awkward loading the blade because of the way the top cap is set (with the two posts in the baseplate, instead of the cap)? Thanks for another informative video.
Not at all, there's enough depth with the posts/nubs on the baseplate that the blade isn't moving around or anything as you assemble the razor.
Great overview, Jon! I'd really like to add a Gamechanger to my rotation. Probably .84, but we'll see.
Thanks for watching! What other razors do you enjoy? Happy to help figure out which GC plate might be best for you!

How does it compare to the Overlander in terms of blade feel? Thanks!
They are very similar in blade feel! If I were pressed, the .76 has just a tiny bit more than the Overlander.
I have a coarse beard. I want a real close shave. Which plate is best?
You may opt for something with a bigger blade gap from the Game Changer series, probably the .84 if not something more.
If the p76 is your sweet spot, have you tried the new Dovo Primo. I swear it will blow your mind, John!
Haven’t tried that one, thanks for the recommendation!
Really enjoying the 1.05 these days. A bit more efficient than the .84
Thanks for sharing! How's the blade feel in the 1.05 compared to the .84?
@@Latherhog I can’t tell the difference in blade feel. Maybe a wee bit less smooth…
